The short story, “The Premature Burial”, by Edgar Allan Poe presents the theme of overcoming fear to live life to its fullest. The plot and conflict focuses on the unnamed narrator who suffers catalepsy and fears “the idea of premature burial”. Because catalepsy causes him to fall unconscious for long periods of times, he is scared he will be mistaken as dead.
