This week I assisted someone with filling out an application for the counseling center. I thought the experience went well. When I assisted the patient with filling out the application I noticed that the application was long and tedious. I think being able to assist patients with completing an application is beneficial for patients who cannot read or understand the questions. I also communicated with a person that was experiencing anxiety. The patient was crying in my office because she was experiencing anxiety about her diabetes. I discussed with the patient some of the challenges that she was experiencing in her life. I felt that I did a good job with assisting the person and calming her down. I also walked the patient up to the counseling center because she was interested in communicating with someone on a long term basis. At the counseling center the patient picked up an application which I thought was a good solution to her problem. I think I am getting more comfortable with communicating with patients on my own.
In addition, this week I had group therapy. In

However, my supervisor suggested that for one my core competency task I should ask the staff about a policy that is here at Heart of the City, Adult Medicine department. I decided to learn more about the discharge policy. The discharge policy states that when a patient has three or more no shows they are released from the agency. In addition, if violence occurs the patient is discharged. I collaborated with other staff members to evaluate what their thoughts were about the discharge policy. What I learned is that many of the staff members believe that the policy is not effectively implemented. For instance, patients are still allowed back at the agency even if they have three or more no shows. In addition, a few of the staff members did agree with the policy but suggested that improvements should be made to the
In the coaching discussion it was not said that my conduct was not meeting expectations, but not allow myself to be in situations where it appears I’m being insubordinate.
Mental health counselors are still facing barriers in employment with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Although in December 2010, the VA released the qualification of standards in hiring LPMHs, there is still a shortage of LPMHs (NBCC, ). Today there are about 0.001% or licensed professional counselor working at the VA compared to 25% of all U.S. mental health professional (AAMF, n.d.). In 2015, the Department of Veterans concluded that license mental health counselor would be included in their hiring of 1,900 mental health staff positions (AAMF, n.d.). How can that be so when there is no series code for mental health counselors within the OPM. This is a limitation for mental health counselors when searching for a job within the Department
Implementing and designing a comprehensive school-counseling program needs to ensure that they are meeting state standards as well as the ASCA National Model. Assessing the comprehensive school-counseling program allows school counselors consider how well they are meeting the needs of the students, and meeting the requirements of the ASCA National Model and state requirements. School counselors gain the ability to assess the effectiveness of the program and answer the question “How are students different as a result of the school counseling program” (Susan Ireland, M. ED., 2014, slide 1).

Robbie J. is a 19 year old African American male and at this time he is currently a freshman at Henderson County University. The client has been referred to this office by his school residential advisor and family doctor. The reason behind this is that the client has not been attending his college classes and has been caught drinking on campus by campus security three times in the past two months. His parents have been advised by the school that if the client doesn’t attend counseling sessions he will be asked to leave and not return back for the following academic school year. The client must attend five sessions and also join an A.A. group.

However, Before I even started going into the counseling program. I had the goal to make sure I knew where to draw the line when it comes to helping as a friend and helping as a counselor. Admittedly, I learned this from my own parents growing up as my dad was a licensed counselor and social worker. He knew where to draw the line for himself. As far as myself, being in the counseling program, I naturally do have a strong desire to help individuals by guiding them to make sure they can find their own strength to take control of their own lives, live a more stress-free, and positive well-being life. However, whenever I find myself talking with my friends about their problems or feelings I will always make sure to never go any further than my

Opportunity assessment is often identified as a critical step in assessing the next process for an organization as it relates to growth, profitability and efficiency. The communication assessment is vital to system and structure analysis and one of the most key terms in this description is effective. Communication for the sake of communication is void unless it relates a more precise and direct form of learning. In this case, Carey Counseling Center has an effective communication system designed to facilitate inpatient services. As CCC has grown in the last year, it has struggled to keep up with the flow of information to the correct departments, allowing the most utilization of new programs. Flow is very important, and our text author,
Though, the additional problem that exists in the organization is the governmental budget restrictions, which continuously challenge the judicial system by dividing its funds among other judicial programs and services, and secondly is hiring qualified facilitators to assist the program. As a result, this program is not offered regularly, which also put the programs consistency at risk. It is very important to take into consideration that Client Services and Family Counseling Division plays a major role in our society to reduce family violence by educating and counseling men to promote safety and non-violence
Some of the people I have assisted have shared many stories about their lives, and as a result, they gave me a new perspective on how I view things and how I approach and solve conflicts in my life. Certain people you help aren't the quickest at certain things, and spending some time with them has undoubtedly helped me become patient with them and those around me. I really enjoy helping those who need it because I feel that I am being a confidant for each person, listening to each thought and feeling. I am teaching them new things like how to use email and how to use their new smartphone. I also help improve skills with things they struggle with like using a computer, knowing if a site is safe, and deciphering whether or not offers made on the internet are too good to be true. One of my favorite experiences with helping the elderly is when we took around 20 people to City Creek once it opened, we had a fantastic time, but this lady I was pushing felt she had to share something with me, she started telling me about her life and how it wasn’t the greatest but she always looked for the good things in life. She was telling me about her son and her grandchildren and how I reminded her of them, because of my willingness to serve those around me, this experience really opened my eyes and made me think about how impactful something as simple as walking with the elderly or pushing a wheelchair around a mall could be so impactful to them. Honestly, helping the elderly is a very rewarding experience for both parties, and is a symbiotic relationship, you get to help them with simple things and in return they provide you with a trove of invaluable life lessons and experiences that deserved to be
In the counseling process, one should not take Jean’s issues lightly because she clearly faced mental instability and abuse when growing up. She has also faced condemnation from the pastor’s family who in this case should have unconditionally loved, cared, and embraced her. It is sad that, Jean has never been loved when growing up and the Christian family, has as well isolated her. In addition, she has never had a model in the Christian family even from the pastor and his wife. With this in mind, this is the time when the therapeutic relationship from the counselor is crucial. Indeed, Jean does not need to be reminded of her sin, her bad choices, and her lifestyles; rather she needs love and acceptance. She needs to be allowed to make her
While dealing with a patient that had a diagnosis of depression, and showed physical signs of crying I sat down with the patient, and provided therapeutic touch by holding their hand. Then asked them an open ended question that lead into therapeutic communication. At the end of the conversation I raised the patient and opened their window so they could see the birds outside and feel the warmth of the sun.
