Country 1 Writing Assignment Dance Attended: Friday April 28th County Dance in WB112 – Fundraiser for OSU Equestrian team 7:45-11:00pm Attending this dance was quite a memorable experience. I went with some ballroom dance friends and my friend Mary, who is in Country 1 with me. I didn’t realize it was a fundraiser until I asked the people checking it in what the funds went toward; it was wonderful to learn that the OSU equestrian was raising money for a national competition. There were only a few people when we arrived, but as the night pushed on, the gym filled up and the floor was full of people in cowboy boots. Some people did come to the dance slightly intoxicated, but not so much that they weren’t able to dance properly. Another interesting thing is that many ballroom dancers, who are on the technique team with me, are very good at country dancing and go to almost all of the Country Dance Club events! …show more content…
The first guy I danced swing with did a lift and dip that I was not prepared for, but it was super fun and exhilarating! One thing I noticed is that having a good lead who has a little more experience country dancing makes dancing very fun. I danced Schottische with both Andrews in our Country 1 class. Andrew and I taught some ballroom students how to do Schottische, and it wasn’t as hard to teach as I thought it would be! Schottische is probably my favorite non-line dance. The line dances were my favorite part, and will continue to be my favorite part of the country dances. I learned a lot of new ones and taught the ones I did know to my ballroom dance friends. I loved watching people dance the more complex line dances and get so into it! Wild Wild West is especially fun to watch because it is a little different than the other line
Different aspects of dances all represent something special and meaningful to each specific tribe. Firstly, the purposes of the Native American’s dances are for entertainment, religious rituals, successful hunts, harvests, to give thanks, prayer, victory, mythology, along with many more. During the summer of 2016, I participated in the local Scandinavian Festival. This year it took place on the outdoor stage at our community center. The festival presents a wide variety of information on the countries of Scandinavia. This activity is very important to me because I met new people, and was able to come out of my comfort zone while learning about heritage in my community. I was hesitant on dancing for the festival, but my parents encouraged me to put myself out there and try something new.
The regalia that the dancers were wearing was absolutely beautiful and the amount of craftsmanship that some of them put in were awe-inspiring. I watched several of the dance contests. The Tiny Tots contest was so adorable and was great to see such young children actively participating in their culture. Another favorite was what they called the “Golden Age” dancers, where community elders took the stage. It meant so much to them, which was very profound. One of the older women looked very similar to my grandmother and reminded me of her. The centerpiece of the entire celebration of when the men’s fancy dance contest occurred. These were people at the top of their craft dressed in beautiful regalia. The realization that really struck me was just how modern a lot of the clothing and items were. Some dancers wore noticeable machine-made pieces; other wore bright neon colors that do not exist in nature. I remember the powwow (probably a little over a decade ago), where most of clothing was hand-sewn and beaded. This change was something I did not expect, but comes with modernization of any culture or tradition. Seeing how the dancers and the powwow itself have adapted to contemporary times while also holding on to the essentials of their traditions was so fascinating to see
I’ve been able to travel to places I’ve never been before, to bond with ladies who share the same passion as me, and of course to grow as a dancer. One of my most memorable dance experience’s was competing in my first national dance competition my sophomore year in high school. I was able to compete with thousands of teams from across the United States and even a few teams from other countries. I love the competition atmosphere and the moments I have to bond with my teammates. There’s nothing that can compare to dancing in front of thousands of people underneath those stage lights. The adrenaline rush I get is indescribable and to know that I’m sharing the dance floor with thirty-four other ladies that have the same goals as me is unbelievable. One of the best moments at the competition was walking away as third runner up overall when we competed against over 200 teams. Another memorable dance experience was when I went to dance camp at Oklahoma State university my senior year. I remember the very first day of camp they ran out of food and we had to order pizza to our dorms. The worst part about this was that we had to be performance ready within an hour and try to eat at the same time. It was extremely frustrating and stressful but at the end we performed and received our bid for nationals in Orlando, Florida. I honestly believe that the most excellent
I was a dancer for fourteen years, beginning at the age of four and ending at the age of 18. I participated in basically every type of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, modern, lyrical, and contemporary. Each year, I would participate in more classes than the last, and it eventually got to the point where I would be attending dance classes five or six days of my week. It definitely got tiring, but I still loved it. Dance is a great way to be able to portray emotions through movement, and I think that is very unique and special to participate in. It was a very huge part of my life, and so were the people teaching me. Dance and everything that came with it was a huge influence on my life, and it helped shaped me into the person I am today.
Dance has influenced my life in many ways, but one experience I will never forget is when I earned Senior Feature Dancer. As a dancer, a person, and the woman I am becoming dance has always been so important to me. It immediately caught my attention because it was my escape and my happy place. My passion for the sport is what gave me motivation to do better and gain confidence that I lacked. I was able to make friends who would last me a lifetime.
The Fall Appalachian Dance Ensemble was a great experience for me because I had never seen a live performance by our school or any other school before. It also served as a great date because my girlfriend is an avid dancer herself. We may go see the spring show if the school even does such a
Student council has been putting all of homecoming week together, including the dance, for the past few weeks. This year's homecoming was decided to be have the same week as Founder’s Day. Throughout the week, lots of students and staff members showed
On October twentieth, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at Harris Center in Folsom Lake College, a dance performance called “Twyla Tharp Dance” was exhibited by The Department of Dance. The dance contained three shorter works with two intermissions. Each of the pieces were completely different from each other because each piece had its own unique style so there was not a particular classification. In any case, there was one particular piece called “Country Dances” choreographed by Twyla Tharp was a fascinating piece in a way that it was there for amusement, as well as bringing back the old dancing style to the audiences to remind them how great the old days were. Each dancer of the piece truly understood their own character and danced to their own heart desires.
He has either demonstrated his dancing or taught workshops at universities such as Berea College, Warren Wilson College, Middle Tennessee State University, Glenville State College and the University of California at Berkeley, in addition to prestigious festivals including the Old-Time Music, Ozark Heritage Festival, the American Folk Festival, the Richmond Folk Festival, the Montana Folk Festival, the National Folk Festival, and the Appalachian String Band Music Festival. He has always been willing to share his knowledge of traditional buck dancing with anyone who is eager to learn, and he has given them the same aforementioned encouragement to pursue both precision and individuality within their
Thanks to this dance I feel more of a connection when I dance with my family and I am more confident and It makes me dance a lot more than I used to. Dancing is huge in my family it makes us (in my opinion) more connected being able to laugh and spend time together just makes a difference. I have a big family +100 cousins and I always feel like I'm close to every single on them because of dancing. This class gave me a better understanding of why my family dances it really gives a connection to everyone who is dancing. Also I think everyone should take a dance class regardless if they need it for their major, I being a chemical engineering student still think it is very relevant to take this class because I think it helps broaden who you interact with
Who all can say that they have danced on national television at Walt Disney World? Well now, I can say that I did. I have been on many trips to Disney World but this one was by far the best because I got to be there with my dance team. In a small town like Saltillo it is very rare that any type of athletic team goes and wins state competitions or makes it all the way to a national level but we did. The Saltillo High School dance team of 2014 was the first team to ever go beyond a state competition and do anything on a national level. It was a huge honor for all of us to represent our school in the way we did. From arriving to Disney’s ESPN Resort, to getting ready then preforming was an overall great experience for all of us.
Watching this performance was the most inspirational and admiring show that I have ever seen. The amount of work each and everyone of this students put into their work was unexplainable. Each dance told a story. Two of my favorites were “Sistas of Sorrow “ and “527”. They both expressed a powerful story that was just breath taking. With their customs that perfectly gave you feel of the time that the story was taking place.
A piece that I enjoyed watching was starbucks rhythm. I just thought that it was so different and unique. Right when the dance started, I was trying interpret the dance myself but. I had trouble putting two and two together. Finally
Something that I noticed during the class was that no matter if it was your first time taking a salsa class or your 10th time everyone was so supportive. It reminded me of how everyone treats each other in the dance department. So, it was very refreshing, to see how supportive everyone was no matter the number of classes you took or your age. It was just refreshing to see how fun the class was and I personally never wanted to stop dancing.
