Denzel Washington plays veteran L.A.P.D. Det. Sgt. Alonzo Harris. For thirteen years this highly decorated cop has been on the front lines in the war against narcotics. He's pledged to protect and serve the citizens of Los Angeles, but his optimism about police work has long since been chipped away by the reality of life on the streets. He and the tight-knit group of officers that report to him have crossed the line between legality and corruption. They find themselves breaking the laws they're supposed to enforce. Alonzo's ethics and his logic are in complete opposition to the "book" which most cops must follow. "It takes a thief to catch a thief," Hoyt is a young naive cop that is given twenty-four hours to train with Harris. Before …show more content…
THEORETIC ORIENTATION: The Psychoanalytic theory will best fit this scenario (of course with the permission of the client) because of the two therapeutic goals: 1. To make the unconscious content of the mind conscious 2. To strengthen the ego so that behavior is based more on reality and less on instinctual cravings. The six basic techniques that were described in the class will be incorporated in our therapy sessions. During the first step, interpretation, I will point out, explain, and teach the client the meaning of behavior that is manifested in dreams, free association, resistances, and the therapeutic relationship itself. This will allow the ego to understand new material and to speed up the process of uncovering additional unconscious material. Uncovering unconscious material and giving the client insight into some areas of unresolved problems is an important procedure done through dream analysis; the second step. While sleeping our defenses are lowered, allowing our repressed feeling to surface. This step will be very important while working with Alonzo because his defenses are very high. We mentioned early that the resistances are stacked against me. By preventing the resistance, my approach will take certain key aspects into consideration. I'll be client-oriented, by understand and studying his past and culture. Customize the treatment, it is obvious that he has had the upper
Transference is often manifested as an erotic attraction towards a therapist, but can be seen in many other forms such as rage, hatred, mistrust, prettification, extreme dependence, or even placing the therapist in a god-like or guru status. When Freud initially encountered transference in his therapy with clients, he felt it was an obstacle to treatment success. But what he learned was that the analysis of the transference was actually the work that needed to be done. The focus in psychodynamic psychotherapy is, in large part, the therapist and client recognizing the transference relationship and exploring what the meaning of the relationship is. Because the transference between patient and therapist happens on an unconscious level, psychodynamic therapists who are largely concerned with a patient's unconscious material use the transference to reveal unresolved conflicts patients have with figures from their childhoods. Countertransference is defined as redirection of a therapist's feelings toward a client, or more generally as a therapist's emotional entanglement with a client. A therapist's atonement to his own countertransference is nearly as critical as his understanding of the transference. Not only does this help the therapist regulate his or her own emotions in the therapeutic relationship, but it also gives the therapist valuable insight into
Have you ever sat back and thought of the multiple different people that need the criminal justice professionals? A lot of people think that the police, child protection and probation officers are a waste of time but they actually save lives. Adolescents who can no longer live with their parents are placed in others home until it is safe to go back home, homeless people without homes are placed in shelters as well as women that are abused in domestic violence situations. People from every walk of life, race and culture experience these situations. People within the criminal justice profession protect these individuals and help them find a way out of the environment they are in.
This paper will discuss the importance of having a theoretical orientation when working with individuals, families, and treatment groups. One of the main reasons for a theoretical orientation is because it gives the social worker a framework of reference to understand the therapeutic needs of the client. It provides the social worker with a theory-based framework for generating hypotheses about the client’s experience and behaviors, which in turn helps prepare the basis for a specific treatment intervention.

In the field of law enforcement there are countless controversial issues among the public and the government. The policies set in places are constantly being contested throughout communities across the United States. One of the most discussed issues would be that of gun ownership and possession, which holds importance for America today. This follows the adverse effect the issue has on both Americans and the outside world. This paper attempts to address the changes in the states and federal laws that regulate firearms, and to conceive a political strategy for putting these changes into place. The first part of this paper looks at the Federal laws relevant to gun ownership and use, as well as the consequences of the current rules in place. Furthermore, the second part of the paper identifies a set of policy changes designed to improve how Americans regulate firearms. The third part of this paper has considerations on common objections and concerns relevant to these policy changes, and develops talking points to use as part of an organization plan designed to put these policy changes into place. The fourth and final part of the paper develops the outlines of a political strategy necessary to effect the above changes. Here, there are considerations on what community partners are likely to support the changes, an analysis of driving and restraining forces in relation to this policy issue, and details of how advocates for these policy changes can get a better set of laws. In
For this assignment I will be identifying Courts as the specific area of criminal justice. I chose this area because I think it plays a vital part into how our justice system works. Starting with a brief history of how and when the courts came into existence all the way through to where it is now. For a person reading this paper, it’s the assumption that you will get a better understanding of the Court system here in the United States.
There are essentially five elements of planned change that a criminal justice administrator should be familiar with to effect change in a rational and effective manner. The process of planned change for the criminal justice administrator is essentially the same as any other organization; the five elements are fairly basic. These elements consist of problem analysis, setting goals and objectives, program and policy design, developing an action plan and monitoring and evaluation. (Peak 14) Being familiar with these elements provides a built in checklist for any administrator when faced with hurdles or problems within their area of control.
At first glance, the topic of expertise within the civil and criminal justice system seems largely straightforward and completely positive. This apparent simplicity and beneficial nature draws support from the term’s general definition; for example, “expertise” refers to “expert opinion or knowledge…obtained –
The student’s interest in Criminal Justice stems from aspirations of wanting to learn and know more about researching and analyzing information. Based on current work experiences along with knowledge using skills that require logical reasoning the student finds that a degree in Criminal Justice will enhance a career in administration and leadership roles. The goal is to be able to explore the different aspects of possible career opportunities in management and qualify for a given position. The intended takeaway from course studies in the criminal justice program is to cover everything such as the different research methods in addition to a working knowledge of how the courts, and law enforcement functions.
81). A successful technique is an important one, and dream analysis is just that. “...[T]herapists reported that the majority of the clients who work with their dreams have benefited from this technique” (Schredl et al., 2000, p. 85). For clients to pinpoint a technique in therapy which helped for them is incredibly important, success for one person means help for another. Through dream analysis, fears can be talked through and solved; which leads to a healthier life (Freud, 1987, p. 171). With more people leading healthier lives, the world will become a happier and safer place; dream analysis will help the people of our world reach that goal.
My shop in PCTI is Criminal Justice. Sometimes I enjoy my shop and sometimes I don’t. The reason being is that we take a lot of notes in criminal justice and i don’t like that but at the same time, we do fingerprints, handcuffs, and mock trials. I do foresee myself working in the criminal justice field as an adult. I hope to become a detective or a social worker. PCTI has taught me many useful skills such as learning to be responsible, managing my time, learning to multitask, and learning to put my priorities over my hobbies. I envision myself using all of those skills when i become an adult. When i become a detective or social worker, i believe that my adult life consist of me working 24/7. Eventually when i retire I’m sure i’ll have enough
Everyone makes mistakes. Unfortunately, often times those mistakes lead individuals to become incarcerated. I want to be in law enforcement because I have seen how crime can have a negative impact on communities. Growing up in a St. Petersburg, Florida, I have seen how drug dealers and crime harmed communities, and affected families. I believe that receiving my Bachelors of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies will equip me with the tools that I need to be a successful law enforcement officer. Although, there are many negatives that surround the current state of law enforcement, I am optimistic that agencies will improve their images by putting more emphasis on community policing. In this paper, I will be exploring why individuals commit
Another dream theory is the psychoanalytic perspective, which is a part of Freud’s theory, are dreams that are a representation of the unconscious motivations, desires, and thoughts. The thoughts are consciously expressed and also suggested that we find the way into the awareness through
Freud introduced the concept of using dream interpretation to understand the unconscious mind. He was convicted that the way 'to understanding and treating neurosis' (Kahn, 2002. Pg. 155) was through dreams. Dream interpretation is another technique used by psychoanalyst to assist the client in understanding and helping them gain insight into their unconscious mind. Freud suggested that dreams, both day and night, represent a wish that the client could like fulfilled (Kahn, 2002).
