Cronus had finally come to be the King of the Titans after overthrowing his father, Uranus. This godly power came at a price, however, as he was told of his fate to be overthrown by one of his own children. In order to combat this fate, Cronus swallowed all of his children soon after their birth. Despite this attempt at stopping his downfall, retribution was brought to him by his youngest offspring that he was duped into not swallowing, Zeus. It could be said that by trying to change the tides of fate in his favor, Cronus was the one who orchestrated this very fate into being. Born of Uranus (Heave) and Gaea (Earth), Cronus was the youngest of the twelve Titans. His mother, Gaea, grew tired of having to birth so many children by Uranus’ love, …show more content…
He overthrew his own father by the help of his mother, and in turn, he was overthrown by his own children who were aided by their mother. His fate being told to him by the very parents he overthrew can also be seen as both ironic and absurd. Imagine, Cronus coming to power by the profane means of overthrowing his own parent, and then being foretold that the very same fate was in his own imminent future. He obviously absolutely did not want this to happen, and attempted combating this fate by eating his own children as soon as they were born into the world. These actions brought the animosity of his wife, as well as his child Zeus and all his other offspring. But it could be questioned, would this fate have played out if he had not consumed and shunned his children, the same way his own father Uranus had shunned …show more content…
Surely the bad blood between himself and his children would not have come to be if he had not attempted to suppress his children who held a power he so feared, and surely his wife would not have grown to resent him if he had not eaten the children they birthed together. It is absurd in both senses: the situation in having karmic retribution for the misdeeds he did against his father and the actions he attempted in stopping this destiny from happening but ultimately being the catalyst that incited the fate into actuality are exact examples of absurdity.
Absurd as a word is defined in the Merriam Webster Dictionary as “ridiculously unreasonable, unsound, or incongruous” as well as “having no rational or orderly relationship to human life.” Absurdism is characterized by the tenets of “life’s absence of meaning removes any reason for living,” and “life’s lack of purpose affords us freedom.” The absurd is the notion that anything and everything in existence is incorrigible and ludicrous, leaving inhibitors of reality with the choices of coping with existence, revolting against existence, or escaping
In greek culture the gods started with a war, which led to a very impact full fall, the fall of Kronos. Kronos is the king of the titans, but every king has his downfall. The king had to have his queen and Kronos's queen was his downfall. The queen didn’t stop trying for children and every time she gave birth, the child was swallowed by their father. That is until Zeus came along.
Cronus, Zeus’ dad, was always worried that one of his kids would have more power than him, so he went as far as eating his own children to make
As Cronus’s nephew he was obliged to fight for the Titans. They want to keep the Titans ruling throughout this “Golden Age.” Cronus’s sons and Atlas’s cousins were waging war on the Titans. Zeus was looking for vengeance. Zeus had a plan to destroy the Titans and whoever had participated would be punished for eternity. (Atlas
Zeus’ affinity for being the main character of a myth is no different in the epic myth about his fight against Cronus and the Titans or the “Titanomachy.” In this larger-than-life battle Zeus has to overthrow his father Cronus and take his predestined place as king of the gods. In this myth however, Zeus has to grow and overcome many challenges that stand in his way to greatness. Zeus has to ask for help from his mother in order to be able to free his sibling from his father Cronus who had swallowed them whole. After Zeus frees his siblings he has to face the mighty Titans, so he asks the Cyclops and the Hecatonchires to aid him in this battle that lasts
Everyone has or had parents at one point. Zeus’s parents were Cronus and Rhea. Rhea was a direct descendant of the first Olympians. Cronus was the son of Uranus, and was the lead Titan. A story was told to Cronus that one of his sons would overthrow him. So as each son was born, he ate them. Because Rhea was angry that
CRONUS DIDN’T WANT HIS CHILDREN TO BE MORE POWERFUL THAN HIM.HIS DAD WARNED CRONUS ABOUT HIS CHILDREN SO HE ATE THEN EXCEPT FOR ONE CRONUS WANTED TO BE THE MOST POWERFUL SO HE ATE HIS CHILDREN EXCEPT FOR ZEUS AND ZEUS DEFEATED HIM AND TOOK HIS THRONE MY THESIS STATEMENT IS THAT THE THING THAT CONNECTS PERCY JACKSON AND CRONUS IS THE STRUGGLE OF POWER CRONUS WANTS TO BE THE MOST POWERFUL GOD AND HE DID SOMETHING SO NOTHING COULD GET IN THE WAY up BUT HIS CHILDREN WOUND UP STOPPING HIM,” Cronus was the god of time. He married his sister Rhea, and together they had three sons and three daughters. Cronus was afraid that his children might one day rise up against his authority, as he had against his own father, Uranus. His father had predicted that this would happen. In order to be sure that he kept power and the prophecy did not come true,”CRONUS HAD KIDS WITH HIS SISTER RHEA AND CRONUS FATHER PREDICTED THAT HIS CHILDREN WOULD RISE UP AND TAKE ALL OF HIS POWER SO CRONUS HAD TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT The goddess Metis helped him, convincing Cronus to drink a potion (usually said to be a combination of mustard and wine),
Cronus was the youngest out of the titans and when Cronus grew up and he overthrew his father and took power . My research paper is about the Greek Titan Kronos/Cronus which are his Greek name or Saturn for his Roman name was the terrible father of the Olympians. He was also the king of titans which were overthrown by their own children the Olympians. In Greek mythology we all know his ending was about him being thrown into the pit of tartarus but we barely know how his beginning life started in the myths, but his defeat the most well known story. In my research paper I will talk about the rise and fall of kronos the god of time.
Cronus’s family is a good size family. His father was Uranus God of the sky and his mother was Gaia the Earth Goddess. “Cronus was the youngest of the twelve Titans. Cronus married his sister Rhea” (Littleton 334), goddess of motherhood. Cronus had six kids with Rhea they are known as the olympians, Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseidon and Zeus. Each of Cronus’s kids rule different things. Like Zeus is god of the sky, Poseidon is god of the Seas, Hades is god of the underworld and so on. Cronus’s family doesn’t just stop there but like any other family it is a big family.
His children werent gods, they were titans. Three were cyclopses, and three were Hecatoncheires. Then his wife found out he banished them she was infuriated. His wife made a diamond sickle and gave it to Cronos, which was one of the titans.
In the Myth of “Cronus”, A god has to go against his own son after he found out his son wasn't eaten, which is making the god furious at his own son consequently his son can rise against him. Cronus is the god
Uranus feared his children and confined them within Gaea’s huge body. With Gaea’s help, I castrated and deposed Uranus and became king of the Titans. I married my sister Rhea, and we had six children. I feared that my children would dethrone me, and so I swallowed the first five at birth. Rhea hid the last child, Zeus, on the Island of Crete. Then she tricked me by giving
He thought the brother cyclops were going to purge the world with their ugliness and make ugly children too. He killed his dad to become the most powerful supreme god so he had power over anyone.his father cared for him and Cronus got greedy over time and wanted to be the most powerful god so no one could talk back to him. Cronus was a greedy god so then he ate all of his children but one zeus because his wife hid him away from Cronus then his son zeus outsmarted him and all the greed made him
Born as the youngest in the generation of Titans, Cronus had wanted to obtain power and was envious of his father, the god of the sky, Uranus. His chance finally came to him when his mother, Gaia, the goddess of earth, called upon her children with a request. She had asked them who was brave enough to cast a dreadful punishment on Uranus for a task he had done previously to Gaia. Only Cronus was willing enough to take the quest. Gaia equipped him with a grand, stone sickle and sent him to castrate his father as divine retribution. After completing the burden, Cronus quickly dismissed Uranus and with his sister
He was the father of all the rivers and lakes of the world. But then the Olympians rebelled against the Titans, Zeus drove Cronus into the western ocean. When Zeus had taken his place as head of the gods, not even the oceans tides could defy him.
