Cruel Intentions Censorship is the protection against things that are deemed questionable. Censoring can be hurtful to journalist in many ways such as, journalist may not be able to get their specific point out, it prevents some valuable knowledge that journalist may want people to obtain, and it disrupts the creative process of a journalist. Journalist may not be able to put out their best product if they are censored. As previously listed, censoring is not a good thing and can be damaging to an article. In the article 'The women on the front lines of the latest abortion battle' written by Steven Holmes, it references to a story, where a decision would have to be made whether or not to have an abortion. The article would most likely not
Censorship is defined by Caso as the suppression of speech or any other public communication which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive politically incorrect as determined by the government or any other control body (3). Censorship may be justified from the conservative view whereby the free speech can be maltreated where it undermines the customary principles and communal solidity as withheld by a particular community.
Censorship is a concept with several different meanings. To each individual censorship has its own meaning. Is it a violation of our rights or is it a protection for our well being? Censorship in the generic sense refers to the suppression of information, ideas, or opinions. It occurs in all forms of communication from technological media to print media. Each society, culture, or individual's belief is violated by the codes of censorship that our society instills.
Censorship is not easy to define. According to Webster’s Dictionary, to "censor" means "to examine in order to suppress or delete anything considered objectionable." Its central characteristic is the suppression of an idea or image because it offends or disturbs someone, or because they disagree with it. In many countries, censorship is most often directed at political ideas or criticism of the government. In the United States, censorship more often involves social issues, and in school is commonly directed at so-called "controversial" materials.
Censorship on the news for example if someone was shot and the victim's face was blacked out and his voice was hanged so we could not recognize him that’s censorship.’’Anti groups have been getting books banned by governments because parents don’t like the violence and it talking about history because they want to hide the from their children and not only their children the whole school too’’.The School of Mississippi got the book to kill a mockingbird banned.’’Parents made that happen by complaining about the book and how they did not want any child to read the book kill a mockingbird’’. Censorship is unnecessary because hides the truth in what really happened in the actual events and how we can learn
However I would have to also disagree slightly with Danielle that there does seem to be some information on how censoring does do positive things such as Obama demanding for content to be removed in order to prevent angry riot, but other than that I could not find anything else for the positive effects of censorship. While this may not seem to be a big deal, I wish that there was some sort of background information on the author himself, sure the hyper link to the article's he has written is shown but there is no background information on him; not really a bad thing considering how credible his article is, just a peeve in my
Censorship refers to the regulation of freedom of expression or any other information that may be sensitive or morally inaccurate to the people. This information can be considered immoral or politically inconvenient by religious groups, the government, ethnic communities and media outlets. Censorship originates back in ancient times in many different countries such as Rome and China. Censorship was mainly used for political, social and religious purposes. For example, Christians used censorship to defend against non-Christian rulers threats.

“Censorship is the process of suppressing something that is considered objectionable or offensive” (Emert 1). In order for a work to become censored, some authority figure imposes restrictions that establish what would be and would not be allowed to be put in front of the public for people to read. The standards those in authority base their restrictions off of are the standards set by the publishers, producers, and agencies of that work. Censorship is something that affects many people especially in the school system; it normally causes tensions to rise. This is because someone feels that their First Amendment rights have been violated. This most frequently happens in the school system because parents, students, teachers, and or staff find a work offensive in some way and try to get it removed. They bring it to the school board, and if severe enough, the case is brought before a judge in court. In most cases the person or group that tries to get the work censored, loses the case. In some cases, the person trying to censor does win. According to most school boards, they would say that students have their full First Amendment rights, but that is not always the case. When it comes to the Freedom of Expression, most schools find some way to censor, books, and articles especially.
Censorship is all about deciding on what people can see and access with the media. This is becoming a more popular topic as society progresses in the media. Censorship is closely tied with the freedom of speech. People do not
Censorship is oft used to mute freedom of speech and self-expression, which are human rights. We need them to express individuality, to differentiate ourselves from each other. There was a teenaged boy who came out as gay, and when he told his story, it was censored from his school newspaper.
Censorship is the suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security. Which is basically saying its the ceasing of using words and imagery that offends the people or isn’t politically correct. Censorship is the cause for many bans and suppression such as books. One book in particular which has been banned is William Golding’s Lord of the Flies.
Censorship wouldn’t just affect our society’s ability to express opinions, but would affect a vital part of our society, Journalism. Journalism acts as a check and balance on our politicians and the government. It provides a forum to discuss issues, and to have our opinions heard. A world without journalism, would be a world without freedom.
To begin, one must define what censorship is and determine when something has been censored. There are several definitions going around, both by non-partisan group as well as special-interest groups. The term "censorship" has its entomological roots in Latin and the word censere, meaning "to give as one's opinion, to assess," and it was in Roman times when censors were magistrates who took the census count and served as assessors and inspectors of morals and conduct. Censorship then came to mean the act of assessing the morality of a work. In the 21st century, Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary explicitly defines it censor and censorship as:
Censorship as defined by Wikipedia is “the suppression of speech or deletion of communicative material which
