Cuban Missile Crisis The Cuban missile crisis was a scary time during the war because missiles that could’ve struck the U.S in a multitude of places. If it wasn’t for the president Kennedy ordering a naval blockade when he did the US would be in worse condition than it is now. The Cuban missile crisis was an event during the cold war that made the United States government feels scared about the lives of the nation. The Cuban Government made the US feel scared when Cuba formed an alliance with Russia which Cuba was only 90 miles away from Florida. (Fogarty, Richard)The Russians wanted to install nuclear warheads on the island of Cuba. If they succeeded it would put the US in danger of being shot
The Cuban Missile Crisis bought the world closer to extinction than ever before. It was through the decisive actions of newly elected president John F Kennedy and then premier of the USSR Nikita Khrushchev that the confrontation did not escalate into all out nuclear war. The Cuban Missile Crisis lasted for 13 days, it was predicated on the fact that the Soviet Union was placing intercontinental ballistic missiles on the island country of Cuba which is just off the coast of the United States near the state of Florida. It can be assumed that the USSR was placing these missiles in Cuba as a response to the United States placing missile system in Europe encircling the Warsaw pact countries.
The Cuban Missile Crisis is one of the most impactful events in the Cold War due to the effect that it had after it happened. The effect of the Cuban Missile Crisis created many changes on the direct and indirect relations between the United States and Soviet Union. The Cuban Missile Crisis spanned 13 days in October 1962 that almost brought the world into a nuclear war. This all began when a United States U-2 spy plane Cuba took photos of Soviet SS-4 medium range ballistic missiles getting setup for the ability to launch. This caused the U.S leaders to be thrown into a panic because the Cuban Government had very strong ties with the Soviet Union who are the United States biggest enemies at the time. Another reason the United States was very fearful is because the coast of Cuba is only 90 miles of the coast of Florida. When President John F Kennedy was told of the missile threat in Cuba he immediately called a meeting with his closest advisors on how to react. There were many ideas on how to react to the missiles, some of Kennedy’s advisors wanted to invade Cuba, others wanted to send a warning to the Soviet Union. JFK finally decided to send a naval blockade to cuba for the purpose of stopping more supplies reaching the Cuban military from Russia. The blockade even though the blockade did not include attacking anyone, it was still seen as an act of aggression by the Soviet Union. The U.S was
The Cuban Missile Crisis began in October of 1962. During a dismaying 13 day standoff, people were on the tip of their toes not knowing if they would see their children again as they dropped them off for school. They wandered when they laid down at night to go to sleep, if they would wake up to see another day. They did not know if they would wake to see a country obliterated by an atomic bomb. As the United States was on the brink of a nuclear war with the Soviet Union and Cuba, nobody was certain what laid around the corner, in five minutes the world could be devastated and millions of people could be dead.
Good afternoon today I will be talking about how the proper role of the Federal government is to give liberty to the people. Liberty is best expressed through the events of the Cuban missile crisis, traditionalism vs. modernism, and block party and countercultural events.
Knowing that communism is still existent, and recently having discover that a neighboring country by the United states, is harboring missiles for the Soviet, there is so much conflict that it almost brings war between United states and Soviet Union. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, leaders of the United States and the Soviet Union engaged in an intense, 13 days of political and military standoff. October 16-28, 1962 there had been the installation of nuclear-armed Soviet missiles on Cuban land, just 90 miles from United states shores was discovered and was the cause of the tension for the United states.
The Cuban Missile Crisis was a thirteen-day confrontation from October 15 to October 28, 1962. During this time there was conflict was between the United States and the Soviet Union over the positioning of nuclear missiles in Cuba. During 1962 on the island of Cuba, the Soviet Union secretly placed nuclear-tipped missiles. After evidence of a U-2 spy plane showing the discovery of Soviet nuclear tipped missiles, President Kennedy was not willing
The Cuban Missile Crisis was an overlooked event. The event changed the way people looked at the nuclear missiles, and it also caused people to open their eyes and see how dangerous the USSR is. The Cuban Missile Crisis caused many technological advancements like spy satellites being used more, and the development of more advanced satellites. The Crisis could be compared to what's going on now between Russia and the United States. Everyone is worried now about how Trump will handle future endeavors with Vladimir Putin. Many people thought the same things during the Cuban Missile Crisis. At any moment something horrible could happen and just like the Cuban Missile Crisis Americans must depend on the President to keep us
On October 16th, 1962, President Kennedy was informed about the presence of nuclear missiles on the island of Cuba (White), a direct threat to national security situated 90 miles south of the United States. In context, the event was a domestic challenge for Kennedy, as he had taken a hard stance against Fidel Castro and the presence of a Communist nation in the Western Hemisphere. In his 1960 presidential campaign, Kennedy had attacked Richard Nixon, Vice President and the Republican nominee for President, and the Eisenhower administration for allowing Fidel Castro to overthrow the American-favored dictator Fulgencio Batista in the 1959 Cuban Revolution (Fursenko and Naftali, 65). This factored into the events of Kennedy’s administration,
The Cuban missile crisis in 1962 nearly brought a nuclear confrontation between the US and the Soviet Union. This is due to the fact that the Soviet Union put nuclear missile into Cuba and US installing missile in Turkey. The Soviet Union made friend with Cuba’s President, Fidel Castro because the US wanted to overthrow Castro. After coming to a compromise a nuclear war was averted between Cuba and the US. The sequence of events occurred during the Cuban Missile Crisis begins on August 31, 1962 which eventually came to an end on October 28, 1962. However, it was not until July 1963 that the Atmospheric Nuclear Test Ban Treaty was signed.
In 1959, Fidel Castro was the head of a now communist Cuba, a country roughly 100 miles off the coast of Florida. An alignment between Fidel Castro and the USSR was occurring during the Cold War and because of the closeness of Cuba to American soil, tensions between the countries understandably worsened. The immediate response of the United States during the Kennedy administration was to attempt to assassinate Fidel Castro using Cuban exiles, however the mission was not planned thoroughly and in 1961, the entire plan failed.
The Cuban Missile Crisis was a dangerous Cold War event because of the nuclear armed missiles the Soviet Union had placed in Cuba. The Soviet Union and Cuba had recently strengthened relations when Cuba became a Communist nation and the Soviets knew the United States wanted to invade Cuba to try and overthrow the government a second time. Concerned Cubans enlisted the help of the Soviet Union to help protect them with nuclear arms in case the need arose. At first, the Soviets thought that the United States would do nothing to stop the nuclear arms trade, though they were very wrong. Once it was reported to the White House, that the Soviet Union gave the Cubans missiles, action was taken. The action was decided by the Executive Committee
The Cuban Missile Crisis was a frightening moment for the entire world. It started October 14th, 1962 after the Soviet Union planted nuclear missiles inn Cuba. The U.S. found out that these missiles were being planted without their knowledge, but the Soviet Union continued the construction of these nuclear missile sites, even after President Kennedy, the president of the U.S., sent out a warning against these weapons in Cuba. Even after this warning, Kennedy once again found out that the construction was still happening. Following the discovery of the ongoing construction, Kennedy wanted to meet with people at the White House to solve the problem that they were encountering. There were multiple sides during their talk about the missiles. Some of the people at the meeting wanted to take a more aggressive approach and destroy these missiles and then follow up with an attack. Kennedy eventually decided to quarantine Cuba. After Kennedy quarantined Cuba, there were many messages sent between the White House and the Kremlin to try and solve the problem. The Cuban Missile Crisis lasted for thirteen extremely tense days. At the end of these thirteen days, the Cuban Missile Crisis ended with an agreement between the United States and Soviet Union. The Cuban Missile Crisis greatly impacted history. It strengthened the bond between the United States and Soviet Union, showed people how to come to a
The Cuban Missile Crisis, also known as the Missile Scare, was a 2 week period in October of 1962 that was a result of increasing tensions amongst the United States and the Soviet Union. Tension between the US and the USSR is not new and is known as the Cold War, often stated to be a period between 1945 until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Intelligence gathered over the span of couple months all seemed to lead to the common conclusion that the Soviet’s are installing offensive nuclear weapons that will be able to reach continental US in mainland Cuba. The “initial” spark seemed to be the awfully failed attempt to invade Cuba, also known as the Bay of Pigs invasion under the Kennedy administration, and the presence of American Jupiter Ballistic missiles in Turkey and Italy. What is interesting about the Cuban Missile crisis is how the Kennedy administration confronted the issue. The Joint Chiefs of Staff, the top military officials of the United States pushed for a full on invasion, which could trigger a world wide nuclear war. Kennedy wanted to avoid a full on confrontation, making him seem “intelligent but weak”.
Imagine being terrified, afraid of countries bombing you, learning drills in school in case there ever is a bombing. This is what how a lot of people felt when they lived in the US during the Cold War, which was a continued battle of intellect and wits between the us (democracy) against the ussr (communists). The Us didn't fight against the soviets on the battlefield, hence the term cold. However it came very heated when the Cuban Missile Crisis occurred. The us had history with Cuba before the Crisis, and the reactions of America and the Soviet Union of this event determined the outcome of the whole Cold War.
The Cuban Missile Crisis had a huge impact on society even years after it was resolved because the incident had brought our nation and the world so close to the brink of nuclear war. Before the Cuban Missile Crisis had occurred, many other factors had been piling up and building undesirable tensions between many countries. Along the way new allies and enemies were made causing more stress to the Cold War. The new bonds that formed after Cuba was taken over by Fidel Castro pushed nuclear war to the very edge.
