In my culture, gender roles are very personal. Gender roles contribute to how females and males should think, speak, dress, and interact with others. There are different ways gender roles have developed over time and how people choose to interpret gender roles and what the male and female have to do. I was born and raised in San Diego California. My mom is from Acapulco, Guerrero and my dad is from Morelos, Cuernavaca. They both were raised by strict mexican parents who raised them to be responsible at a young age. Both of my parents started working at the age of 10. My dad would work at a bakery after school and then switched up to driving trucks, transporting beer. My mom didn’t get the chance to go to school, my grandparents sent my uncle instead. She would go sell food to el mercado the whole day then come back with her sister, and make food for their brothers and wash their clothes. My grandma would make my aunts and mom do things for their brothers thing that they could have done for themselves. Because my mom was always doing thing for her brothers and my dad sisters had to do things for him that weren’t always in his power to say no do not do it, but his parents. They decided to not fully continue this way of teaching and raised me and my siblings in a similar way but not as strict as their parents. In my society mostly all children start growing up at a young age so they start mature earlier than others. Some may say it is because of where they come from and
There’s various things that describes everyone, but there’s only a few things that make each and every one of us unique, which is, our cultural background. As far as cultural background, it defines the individual’s upbringing. The cultural background includes ones religion, race, gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic factors, linguistic and values. These values can be shaped by family, friends, society, or authoritative level. This paper is a great way for one to define my identity or at least understand who I am.
There are many cultural differences between the United States and France. Some of these are simply social and others are cultural. Hofstede’s Value Dimensions can be used to highlight the differences between the cultures. Individualism vs collectivism, uncertainty avoidance, masculinity/femininity, power distance, and long-term vs short-term orientation are all characteristics that differ between France and the United States.
Depending on the situation, if a task is viewed as more masculine, then the males of the family, when they come of age, are expected to complete them. On the other hand, if the task is viewed as more feminine, then the women in the households are expected to undertake those chores. The actions required in the family vary from household chores to providing for everyone. The most often talked about gender role in the Hispanic culture is the male in the family being the

I come from a very conservative Mexican household. That being said there were certain guidelines or roles that each gender had to follow. I come from a family of five, and we consist of 2 males and 3 females. Being a female, that meant that I was expected to do the household chores, the cooking of the house, and care for younger siblings. While we were expected to do that, my brothers didn’t have an obligation to do any of the responsibilities we were held accountable to. Although, they were expected to have jobs at an early age to help and provide income for the family.
A woman stays home to take care of the kids and the house; a man goes to work and provides for the family. These are some of the most traditional and common gender roles that people were expected to follow some time ago. Gender roles are norms, or standards, created by society. Many cultures are heavily influenced by gender roles, one major example being the Latin American culture. Most people try to adopt these specific roles set by society, but there are also those who go against the tide.
After this, the students talked to each other and they decided that they enjoy it when the teacher reads to them. The teacher read the book and the students followed along with the reading. When the teacher finished reading, she asked various questions that the students had to answer. The students, had to discuss the question and the answer with their group members. The teacher, asked each group to give their answer and, all the students participated in the activity. They had a good teacher and student relationship. The students respected the teacher and she did an awesome job with the lesson. The teacher, talked to us and, explained that when she creates her lessons she tries her best to incorporate group work and class discussions. Her goal is, that her students are engage in the lesson that she created.
An example of a culture and society that is highly into gender roles is the Hispanic culture. For my experience, I grew up in a Hispanic household where I would see the typical traditional roles, such as my mother doing all cooking and cleaning at home and my father working on his car and
Completing the personal cultural survey I was able to identify the way I approach my life through my eyes. Since completing this survey I have seen my worldview through my lens and the way I approach people, and my way of life. Furthermore, I have identified that my numbers were very similar to one another, and that my average score was (4). Thinking upon this I was pondering why my average score was a (4) for everything. Maybe I grade myself too harshly or become too analytical with this test because I am a very detailed person.
Great post. Reading your post on the multiracial culture made me reflect on the multiracial individuals in family. It does appear that there is an increased acceptance of multiracial individuals. However, when it comes to adoptions of multiracial children or trans adoptions the issues I would imagine run a bit deeper and possibly more complex. The couple or individual adopting a multiracial child or transadoption is truly a beaufil spirted individual. Not only will they deal with the stares, questions, stigma and in some cases, being ostersied by the family, the child will most likely have questions and issues. There are a number of ways parents can help to culturally educated their bi-racial or transadopted child by introducing their culture
Although gender roles have come to a certain amount of change, American society has created greater peer pressure for females. Culture shaped gender, and has allowed social media to establish the ideal male and female creating a harmful environment to grow up in. affects every aspect of our life, from how we feel about ourselves as well as the nature and extent of our participation in social and civic life. In my culture the gender roles consist of the mother working, cooking, cleaning, & yelling. The gender roles of the father consist of working, paying the bills & being laid back. Our expectations are different from the American culture from the language, our up brining, discipline, education, religion &
Cultural Comparison Culture, is known to define a group of people by their language, religion, and their lifestyles; yet, they are learned, shared and adaptive throughout the world (merriam-webster, 2018). For instance, there are many diverse cultures throughout the world, in the Ottoman, Chinese, and Ghana African civilizations there are many similarities and differences. In these early civilizations their cultures were driven by various factors that made up their overall civilization such as their social, cultural, political, economic, diplomatic, and military which all played a very important role in their civilization. Socially, the role of women in societies throughout history of these civilizations held women at a lower standard as
In a similar manner, my classmate who is of the Hispanic decent explains that her parents did not enforced gender roles. She explains that she was never a ‘girly girl’, and that she was comfortable enough to be a ‘tom boy’. She enjoyed playing sports and her parents encouraged her to join a sports team when she entered middle and high school. She continues by saying that her parents were very supportive of what she wanted to do, as long as she is happy. On the other hand, her father always does the ‘manly’ things such as cutting the grass, and fixing cars. Nevertheless, her father also cooks, clean and take care of his children. Gender roles never stopped her father from taking care of his family. She hopes to portray these attitudes onto her
For my second culture immersion project I went to eat at a Mexican restaurant. I went with my group members Ryan, Brian and Brian's girlfriend. I went this pass Tuesday after we had our group meeting. I don’t recall the name of the restaurant but I know it was downtown Appleton near by the Walgreens. . This was good choice for the project because I never have eaten at an actually Mexican restaurant before.
