The news topic I used to evaluate the four different types of news coverage was DACA, or Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals. I chose this topic because it is controversial and something people have many different opinions about, I knew I could find specific bias in its media coverage. DACA is also a very popular topic right now and has been in the news for a while now, so I thought there would be a good variety of news to evaluate. I chose to evaluate a mainstream, alternative, critical, and social media news source. Theses sources were CNN, Reveal, The American Prospect, and Twitter. I found that most of these articles included some sort of political bias, usually leaning in the same way, some having more than others. This article was by far the most politically biased that I read. The article gives some background information on DACA then continued by calling out the President and the Republican party on their racism and ignorance to immigration. The source may be very politically biased and charged but has some credible aspects. on the topic but reports its biased opinions throughout. They’re a wide variety of links within the article, which seemed to be credible. The article also references other mainstream media but manipulates it to fit their political agenda. The mainstream media source I evaluated was from CNN. This source is credible due to it being a mainstream media source, however that doesn’t mean it isn’t politically biased. This news article focuses on the fact that there may never be a deal made due to the fact that democrats and republicans can’t negotiate. References were made from events that occured and valid quotes by political figures were embedded within the article. This adds to the credibility of the source.
