Everyone goes through rites of passages like, walking, talking, and making mistakes. It’s all a part of growing up. Martin and Dachena go through rites of passages in some similar and some different ways. Martin’s grandpa comes into town because it’s almost time for him to pass down the medicine bag to his grandson Martin. His rite of passage is him receiving this medicine bag and becoming one of the tribe. Dachena’s rite of passage is a coming of age ritual. She has a big ceremony all about her becoming a woman. My examination of these two formats will show all the advantages and disadvantages of how reading the text or watching a video could help you or not, as well as the similarities and differences between the two stories.
There are
The similarities between the two stories speak of life's lessons and the sometimes-painful road we have to take in order to gain life
I never realized before this class that these changes in my life were rites of passage every time that I was getting older as a person.Rites of passage have been in my life ever since I was born until now because as a child I transitioned from a fetus to a fully born baby, every single birthday that I ever had and continue to have, and even in the future when I get married or even when I die.All of my rites of passage were celebrated with a form of celebration as every birthday was celebrated with a birthday party, my graduation for both middle school and high school as I went through the ceremonies and parties afterward, and for my religious moments when I would have a celebratory mass and a celebration with gifts after each of all my events.Rites
Some similarities and difference about the “ The medicine bag” and the video “ Apache girl’s rite of passage”. A few of the differences of the passage “ The medicine bag and the video “ Apache girl’s rite of passage” are it took exactly four days for DeChina to become a woman and it only took Martin about a day or so to become a man and to receive the
The two rites of passage are different in various ways. Martin only had to sit and listen to the storys grandpa was telling about the medicine bag. While dachina had to participate in her tradition of becoming an adult. Dachina
Between the two stories “The medicine Bag” and “Apache Girl’s Rite of Passage” there are plenty of similarities. The fact both Martin from “The Medicine Bag” and Dechina from “Apache Girl’s Rite of Passage” get medicine bags in the story is a similarity. Another similarity is that both Martin and Dechina become more mature. This is said because in “Apache Girl’s Rite of Passage” the narrator say, “It’s a grueling ordeal to prepare girls for the trials of womanhood.” and in “The medicine Bag” it shows how Martin becomes a man getting the medicine bag from his grandfather because receiving the medicine bag means he has to carry on an important tradition that was in his family for generations.
A rite of passage is a transition from one stage of life to another. These passages are pursued when one passes a milestone such as birth, maturity, and achieving adulthood. These milestones will clearly show changes in the characters life. It involves significant change in their views, and of society. A rite of passage is shown in Anthem, Shakespeare Bats Cleanup, and Great Expectations. The characters show significant changes as they transition through their life..
They both explain and go through what each of these rites of passage means to the tribe and the characters. Dachina and Martin both go through an important rite of passage in their lives to mean and represent different things. Dachina’s is to become a women and Martin’s is to carry on and to keep a
A recent rite of passage I went through was graduating from nursing school and becoming a RN. To complete this rite of passage I had to complete all the pre-requisites for nursing school which took me 4 years. Then I did the nursing program which was 2 years. To celebrate finishing the nursing program I attended a pinning ceremony which is a ritual where the nursing graduates get a pin that represents the completion of the education required to sit for the nursing boards. This pinning ceremony was more important than walking at graduation. The majority of my classes did not attend the graduation ceremony but all attended the pinning. Once I took the nursing license test I got a card that says registered nurse. I was finally able to call myself
Watching the news is a rite of passage for any newly crowned adult. It’s a sign to you and everyone you know that you’re a grown up god dammit, you keep up with what’s going on in the world. Because of the news you can name like 75% of the presidential candidates, you’re aware of every tragedy going on overseas, and each day at work you get to ask someone if they heard about the *insert feel good story here* that you saw the previous night. The news is making you such a well-rounded and mature human being.
While watching the movie, my goal was to not write any notes in order to focus on details and to keep my mind away from getting distracted. After the movie, I was not able to see a clear image on differences and similarities between the two, especially since there were not many scenes focused on just the families. I started freewriting for as long as I could with an idea in mind of coming up with reasons on why I am not able to compare and contrast the families. Many ideas came to mind and I tried writing all of them down including the silly ones while trying to stay positive From pasts experiences, I work best with freewriting and coming up with an outline with all the ideas that came to mind which is why this strategy was used. I was able
There are many similarities and differences between The Apache Girl Rite of Passage and The Medicine Bag. To begin, one similarity between these rites of passage are that both of the main characters are going through an important time in their life. For example, Martin is getting ready to receive the medicine bag, an important rite of passage for him and his lakota heritage. In contrast, Dachina is going through a event where she becomes a women. In addition, to both characters going through an important time in their life. There is another similarity, both of the events taking place are traditions. For instance, in the Medicine Bag, the person who has the medicine bag at the time is supposed to give it to the the next son in line. Another example, is that every girl in Dachina’s Apache tribe has to go through this rite of passage to become a women, so it's like a tradition.
The medicine bag has the most significant rite of passage to me because passing down tradition is very important in my opinion. In the story the grandfather came to town to give his grandson the medicine bag. He is giving the medicine bag to Martin because because it’s tradition to pass it down to the oldest male child. In the story Martin’s grandfather said that once he knows it’s time that he is getting ready to die is when he must pass along the medicine bag. When Martin had to learn what to put in it his grandfather told him that he needs to replace the sage that is in it now and he needs to put iron in it. In the story Martin was talking to his grandfather about why he is getting the medicine bag instead of his father and his grandfather said “My son”,“ He went one after clearing his throat, ”had no sons, only one daughter, your mother. So the medicine bag must be passed on to you.”
There are many differences in the passages. One difference is that they talk about different things. This can be shown because in "Boy's Life" he is in a classroom and in "Emancipation: A Life Fable" the animal
After Delia’s dad had dropped me off I had a lot of things to think about. I went to my room and layed down feeling exhausted. I didn’t want to hurt Delia after all we’ve done together, or was it all fake? No, it couldn’t have been. If she was trying to make her parents mad she would’ve dumped me by now. Right? I shook those thoughts out of my head and decided I was going to sleep and figure out what to do.
What image does one keep in the back of their mind about what the ‘should’ look like or the life they that should live? Where do these images come from? Do they affect us? Every day we sprint through our day, surrounded by the images of modern advertisment. These images pass us by in a blur and essentially brainwash us into a certain standard of image or goal of living. For instance, ads that feature men feature them as masculine and powerful whereas ads that feature women not only sexualize them, but take away their power. Ads like this have been receiving the attention of the public since the early 1900’s and are seen by thousands and millions of people on a daily basis. Consequently, these images have adverse affects on society such as decreasing
