Dead Men Floating
Just imagine you wake up one day and there are bodies lying in the road. That was what happened in small town Missouri. That was freaky. The rain started falling in the spring of 1993 through the summer and flood waters destroyed homes, businesses, roads, and bridges. The rain did not stop falling till fall. That was a lot of rain. More than 500 counties in nine midwestern states had been hit hard. Flood waters covered more than twenty million acres of land. Fifty people had died, and 55,000 homes were destroyed. That was terrible. All said and done, the great flood of 1993 was one of the worst natural disasters in America. It caused 15 billion dollars in damage. That was a lot of money.
What makes us alive and what makes the zombies dead or undead? Well it all has to with neuroscience and most importantly the brain. The biggest question is what the requirements of life are? The requirements are the process to maintain homeostasis and the ability to adapt to changes. Do zombies maintain homeostasis for the undead couldn’t cause of the decay wouldn’t be able to because it couldn’t respond to change in the environment and don’t the ability to heal or repair. Unlike the livening dead would be able to adjust to the changes also could maintain the in the internal environment.
Some say that people never change. They may be right, but no one really knows. What people do know is that every living person has one thing in common, something that will never change. Everyone will die, there’s no way around it. Every “new” and “old” generation will succumb to the same ghastly fate. The differences in the “old” generation and “new” generation sometimes collide in life. The contrast between generations in James Joyce’s “The Dead” is similar to the contrast in the generations today. The “baby boomer” generation is the old fashioned generation preoccupied with hospitality and tradition, where as, “generation x” is the new generation, preoccupied with knowledge and intellect.
In the novel The Dead, Gabriel Conroy, who is the nephew of Julia and Kate Morkan, is the main character of the story. One night he and his wife attended a party, which was given by his two aunts, and there were many other members in the party. The story revolves around their life and memories.Gabriel Conroy felt a blur between his soul and the dead. Some people died, but they are still alive because they have true love. Some people are alive, but they are still dead because they never love.I like the story for three reasons.
In the late summer of 2005, a terrible tragedy occurred that changed the lives of many in the south-east region of the United States. A Category 3, named storm, named Hurricane Katrina, hit the Gulf Coast on the 29th of August and led to the death of 1,836 and millions of dollars’ worth of damage (Waple 2005). The majority of the damage occurred in New Orleans, Louisiana. Waple writes in her article that winds “gusted over 100 mph in New Orleans, just west of the eye” (Waple 2005). Not only was the majority of the damage due to the direct catastrophes of the storm but also city’s levees could no longer hold thus breaking and releasing great masses of water. Approximately, 80% of the city was submerged at sea level. Despite the vast amount
(Ref. 5) On May 29, 2015 which was Memorial Day the rain decided to pour. This left around 12 inches of rain in just hours. This flood caused a lot of damage to homes and buildings. Unfortunately, there was cases of people that did lose their lives. Air rescues had to be performed along with emergency evacuation due to severe flood for some people. It was almost at much severity as the tropical storm Allison that happen in
As I was reading as The Great Molasses Flood of 1919, I was shocked! The closest relation that I could possibly think of that I have seen is the rainfall flood of 2008 in Saline County, Illinois. I remember going outside and wading in water, it was almost impossible to drive and buildings were flooded majorly. “Excess of 12 inches above normal.” (Flood of 2008) When I walked outside, I could not believe my eyes! I didn’t even think it was possible for Carrier Mills to get as much rain as it had
It rained for a whole week straight none stop. It even had as much water as in the Mississippi river at the time. It caused a lot of damage through the flood costing the U.S 17 million dollars just to fix the damages that happened with the flood. The American Red Cross team had to step in help with the damages done by this flood. No one knew why it was raining for a whole week straight.
The hydrographic basin area affected is around 435 miles in width and 723 miles in length which totals close to 320,000 square miles. The flood area was 30,000 square miles. In St. Louis, the floodwall built out of interlocking concrete blocks in the 1960’s, kept the flood out. If the flood had been 2 feet higher, the whole downtown area of St. Louis would have been under water. It is estimated that most of the 700 privately built levees failed or were destroyed on the Missouri River. River levels were almost 20 feet over flood stage. The Missouri River was flooded for nearly 100 days. (Wikipedia)
Poncelet’s life and how he acts. It portrays him as a bottom of the line,
The National Weather Service (2014) reported that the Metro-Atlanta suffered disastrous flooding in 2009 after an extended downpour that stemmed from sufficient moisture from the Atlantic Ocean, Atlanta’s topography, and the Gulf of Mexico. In 24 hours, the rain had reached approximately 20 inches, resulting in a significant flash flooding that made river basins stay swollen for weeks. This disaster significantly affected the Atlanta, Georgia community and its economy with a property loss worth $500 million reported.
Should Nebraska allow the death plenty back in the system or keep it out like they have been. That is for the people to decide if the plenty should be back in roll for our justice service for our major convicts who committed major crimes against the American courts. The death plenty could do good again in the state of Nebraska to stop our major preps and I could stop the government from wasting so much tax payer money on supporting the prisons and people who doesn’t need to be granted a second chance in society.
“Nuit of the Living Dead” written by David Sedaris, the setting in rural France leads to part of the comedic element of this story. Reading this story very much feels like trying to follow an ADD chipmunk. There are generally several thought patterns running simultaneously throughout the entire thing. It’s a quick, fun, charmingly quirky read.
In the story Everyman, the author being unknown explains that man cannot cheat death. (God to Death)"Go thou to Everyman, and show him, in my name" You can try to avoid it or make deals with it, but death will come when its destined to come. In this essay, I will verbosely explain the circumstances and series of unfortunate events that Everyman endures to cheat death.
