Dear Future Ohlone student,
Congratulations on passing High School and going to college! I am currently going to the 10th grade of highschool but I have taken classes online from Ohlone college. From what I am told there are 2 Ohlone Campuses one in Newark and one in Fremont. Which ever campus you go to they both seem really fun, but they are also very big. The classes that I took was Java and a Personal Development Program. These two online classes have really helped me. The Personal Development Program has helped the most in becoming more successful and doing things that help me get great grades and also have fun in my life. My brother has also taken multiple courses at Ohlone and had a great time doing them. Many people think that going

What is Procrastination? Procrastination is one thing many students do. It is either because they don’t want to do the task or they are just too lazy to do it and keep on putting it off. One thing to do is always manage your time. This skill is one of the most important skills not only in college but in your career and life. To manage your time means you should set aside certain amount of time to do each assignment . You shouldn’t cram all your work into one day. You should do each day at one time. For example if I was going to type an essay I would split it up and work on my essay one hour each day till it is due. Another thing to do while you are at college is to prioritize. When I say this I mean that if some friends invite you over to a party but you know that you have an assignment or test. You should probably study for the test and finish your assignment first. Remember friends come and go what you do in your life in college, high school, or even at work will determine your path in life. College seems to be a fun place to learn and develop I learnt many things during this college course and I can’t wait to start another. I hope you have a safe and fun time in college and make new friends. Have a great time in Ohlone I
First and foremost, you did it! You survived all crammed hallways, the cliques, and all the times you thought your parents were controlling you way too much. As this new chapter opens you will soon realize that your parents were always right and you really do need to not procrastinate and should balance your school and social life. College truly is the best four years of your life, but there are a few things you must always keep in the back of your mind.
I am writing to give you some advice that I wish I had known coming into my senior year. To begin, Congratulations for successfully making it this far in your high school journey. For some, this experience flies by and is the best time of their lives. For others, the opposite is true; however, it is such a blessing to be able to say that you are on the track to graduation, and you may not realize it, but this year will be full of challenges that you may or may not choose to take on.
I myself have been guilty of procrastinating on a daily basis. Seniors still want to make solid grades depite their lack of motivation to get them. As a result of putting off studying, students often cheat to maintain decent grades. Furthermore, some of them wait until the night before the test to cram in study time. Because of the desire for money and freedom, many upperclassmen spend their time working instead of completing homework assignments. A year of procrastination and negating responsibilities can turn into bad habits that follow some students for years to
Your Professor’s don’t really care about what you do. They don’t care if you don’t show up to class or not. A tip I would give you is to make sure your Professor’s know you or at least recognize you, even if that means asking questions the whole class period. Another way that college is different is that you don’t stay in classes for a whole 8 hours, you just go to your class then go back to your room. Another thing is the work load. You get your assignments in the beginning of the year and all your due dates, it’s up to you to get them done and turned in. Also the study habits, are crucial, you have so much time on your hands to do whatever so time management is important. Another thing is parties, there are going to be parties probably every other night so you attending them should be a responsible decision. Do not get caught up in boys and girls either. Relationships will come on their own and the worst thing you could do is get caught doing “The Walk of Shame”. The walk of Shame is basically when you leave to go meet an upperclassman and you have to walk back because he won’t drive you back and you half dressed. In the end, the moral to the story is to make sure you stay on top of your stuff, be responsible, and make good
Another thing I could relate the procrastination to is a lack of motivation. In high school I didn’t have to do much studying or spend time writing long papers or doing assignments. So when I came to college I thought it would be the same way and I quickly learned that the college work load is much different and more intense than a high school work load. This was a major factor in my GPA being where it was. I was not extremely motivated to be taking all the general education classes I was enrolled in and therefore did not invest the time that I should have. Having a good GPA is not a primary instinct like hunger or thirst, it is taught to you that you should strive to have a good GPA. Hunger, thirst, sleep, and sex are all primary drives of motivation and are all biological needs.
Congratulations on this turning point - going to college and entering a new phase of your life! My name is Shayne and I am currently going to the 10th grade at Mission San Jose High School. The past year as a freshman in a big school was intimidating and challenging. I struggled and finally realized that I needed to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. After I researched and enrolled in this class, I believe that that the sky's the limit for me. I was given the tools to be able to identify my weaknesses and overcome it. So I can put myself in your shoes and although your junior, I would like to give you a few words of advice on stepping into this new chapter of your life as a new student at Ohlone. I want you to know that
The first thing you need to remember is to always be curious. Curiosity will take you far in life, especially in college, because it will keep you present. Being present will make classes more bearable, and
Investment ambitions can be as uncomplicated as a few certificates of deposits, or as diverse as an abundant array of interests that make up a large portfolio. You can start as simple as an FDIC insured savings bond, evolving into mutual funds, ultimately building a massive stock portfolio.
College is an exciting and overwhelming time. You are starting are a new chapter, in your life figuring out your career goals. College is a big adjustment from high school. Some people are not ready to navigate through this transition. What you need to become a successful in college is setting goals, taking notes and creating a study schedule.
College students have to balance work, family, and college activists and any delaying behavior from within can cause an unbalance. This behavior is called procrastinating and it can lead to problems in many areas of a student’s life. College students are the worst hit by this type of behavior because they have many different activities to focus on instead of studying. These activities can cause students to study when they have time which often is usually too short amount of time. There is a time and place to relax and enjoy life, but if students focus on playing around instead of getting their assignments done, college life will be stressful.
Procrastination is a tendency to postpone, put off, delay, reschedule, take a rain check on, put on ice, hold off, or to defer what is necessary to reach a particular goal.(Roget's 21st Century Thesaurus, Third Edition. Philip Lief Group 2009.) While attending College some students find it hard to juggle work, family, and friends. Leading most students down a dangerous path to procrastination; that negative impact affect students from their physical health, mental health, and social health.
The future holds many surprises in which case can be your dream job that has been taken by machines due to the increase of technology. However there might be jobs that may look absurd or unconventional but might exist in the future. To get the best out of the future, I would use my three favorite things and create or do a job that will fit in with the future. I have chosen to do agriculture, art, and robotics. Out of these things, I have decided to engineer robots that run on plants, tends to gardens, and topiary. I think the more our society grows, the more usage of clean energy is needed. Our current source of fuel is not renewable fuel. Our concerns for the planet include the decrease of our carbon footprint. This will help in multiple ways while enjoying the job.
Hi Professor, I am Felipe Rendon and I just wanted to make sure that the books you have posted on the csusm catalog are accurate so I can go ahead and purchase them. The books are: Police, Power, & the Production of Racial Boundaries, On the Run, Tattoos on the Heart, and Lady Q. By the way i'm really looking forward to attending your class. I don't know if you remember me, but we met through Professor Glover and just by talking to you for a moment helped me realize that your teaching will benefit me for my goals after college.
Students can avoid procrastination by following the S.M.A.R.T. goal guidelines. All of your goals should be specific (s), measurable (m), achievable (a), realistic (r), and time-sensitive (t). A specific goal is clear, focused, concise, and well-defined (“Ensure Your Success”). Instead of a general goal like “I want to get my degree,” turn that into something more specific like “I am going to get my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from George Mason University” (“Ensure Your Success”). To make goals measurable, establish timelines and dates so you can measure your progress and stay on track to meet targets. Goals need to be achievable. Evaluate your own work ethic, see what you’re willing to do, and shape your goal around that so you know it is something you’re capable of doing. A goal needs to be realistic, something that you are
Hearing so many good things and bad things about college I didn’t know what to expect and look forward to. That change my junior year knowing different college come every year I didn’t really pay it any mind what college I wanted to go to until ODU, Virginia State University and Virginia Teach came. It was Virginia State first year of visiting out school and I knew I wanted to go there I start getting e excited for college that were talking about their experience at college and what to look for when we graduated if we decided to go to college. Eager to start a new chapter college sound like it could be a little nerve wrecking but I thought I could handle it.
