“A positive attitude brings strength, energy, motivation, and initiative” (Quotes Guru). Having a positive attitude is the best response to conflict, especially in the time of war. For example, in the stories Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl and Dear Miss Breed: True Stories of the Japanese American Incarceration During World War II and a Librarian Who Made a Difference, both Anne Frank and Miss Breed had a positive attitude for such a horrible situation. In the story Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl Anne tells us, the audience, how her family dealt with the situation that they were in. In Dear Miss Breed: True Stories of the Japanese American Incarceration During World War II and a Librarian Who Made a Difference showed what situations the Japanese Americans had to go through and how horrible their living habits were.
To begin, Anne Frank showed a lot of positive

For example, one of the kids that write to her shows a positive attitude. Her name is Louise Ogawa. She said, “This trip has made me realize the wonderful work of nature. Her delicate work in shaping the stone mountain, the beautiful coloring of the surroundings-it seemed as if I was looking at the picture or a painting of a genius” (Oppenheim par. 21). Here, Louise is trying to think of the pretty views that they are seeing. She’s not thinking about anything else. All she wants to do is stay positive. Another example that Louise said is,“ If American soldiers can endure hardships so can we” (Oppenheim par. 28)! This indicates that Louise is trying to think of other people who had to go through tough times just like her. Also, this demonstrates that Louise is positive because she’s trying to think of other things so she can make herself feel better. All of this proves that Miss Breed and the characters in her story have a positive attitude during the time of
In Charles Swindolls Attitude, he opens the article with, “The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.” In this first sentence, the reader feels the sense of power that the author is trying to portray. In addition, this first sentence has a lot of meaning to my life. For example, when I was deployed to Guantanamo Bay Cuba, conducting detainee operations, it was my positive attitude that made me enjoy myself and my brothers under the harsh conditions. I was able to assess the situation from my own perspective and change my way of thinking, to enjoy the little things in life while I was there. As Charles Swindolls article goes on, he then says, “We cannot change our past…We cannot change the fact that people will act
Most people would agree that character is defined as how a person deals with their most challenging circumstances. Adversity at times in a person's life is inevitable, and in many instances, a wrong choice is taken or a poor decision is made, simply because the pressure of the situation was too much to handle. However, these decisions are directly influenced by the way the person in the challenging situation looks at what they are going through, and this can be defined as their attitude. Attitude is important because the way someone considers a situation logically controls how they handle it, and if its taken care of in a satisfactory manner, or otherwise. Although it has been argued that a realist or pessimist worldview is an acceptable attitude for any situation, it is clear that and optimistic attitude and worldview is the key to handling any challenging situation in a way that is beneficial, and is ultimately the key to success in life.
What positive feedback can people get from dealing with adversity? In the book, The Wednesday Wars, Holling Hoodhood faces a lot of adversities successfully. Although some struggles Holling Hoodhood runs into start with something negative, he listens and behaves to make the problem become positive.
What’s the best way to face a difficult situation? Day in and day out, life circumstances force people to live their lives differently than planned. Some struggle with this concept, never seeing the silver lining in the unexpected turn of events. Others however, live their lives as normally as they can, regardless of whatever they’re faced with. During the second world war, America was faced with the question of how to keep their country safe from enemies that might live within its borders. Although every American citizen is legally innocent until proven guilty, all’s fair in love and war. America saw no choice but to lock away immigrants and their American born children. This is detailed in The Train to Crystal City by Jan Jarboe Russell as
Research shows that positive thoughts can help you to build skills and make a real value in your life, while negative thoughts narrow your mind and you only focus on negative emotions. (Clear, How Positive Thinking Builds Your Skills, Boosts Your Health, and Improves Your Work, Paragraph 3 and Paragraph 13) But what would be the best response to conflict, a negative attitude or a positive attitude? We can look at people such as Louise Ogawa who was in Japanese internment camps in the United States also during World War II who both had a positive response to conflict. Anne Frank who was in the concentration camps in Germany during World War II is another great example of a positive response to conflict. After reading about these people and
She was always jovial, she never let anything or anyone bring her down. One way this is stated is in lines 463-466 of the play, “I slept, father. Wasn’t that funny? I knew it was the last night in my own bed, and yet I slept soundly.”.This quote shows that Anne was hopeful. She was hopeful that she would find another home, or that she as well as her family would be coalesced no matter the obstruction that stood in front of them. She was hopeful, that she along with her sister would stay together through thick and thin. She was hopeful, that she would survive. Optimism is extravagantly mundane in adolescent generations. They always want to have fun and they always find a way that they can, but Anne was different. She was always perky, consequently, she always made everyone smile. In the play, “The Diary of Anne Frank”, while everyone was down and blue about their situation, Anne was content. Against all odds, she stayed that way, she was blissful to be a Jewish girl, she was grateful to have kenned the people she did, accordingly, she was ecstatic to have been a component of something more astronomically immense. It didn’t matter what she was doing, she was joyous while doing it. Anne was a very hopeful person, so she always saw the good in
In “The Diary of a Young Girl” the author states, “But as you can see, Kitty, I'm still alive, and that's the main thing” (Frank). Since Anne had a positive attitude about the situation she was in, it helped her realize that she should be thankful for the little things. It also helped her to forget about the hardships and celebrate the jubilant times. In “Dear Miss Breed” the author states as she was on her way to a Japanese internment camp, “One of the most beautiful scenery was when crossing a bridge which was right above the Colorado River” (Oppenheim). Louise Ogawa had a cheerful attitude and she gained positive experiences during her trip. As she was looking at the river, it helped her forget for a while about the things she is about to face. In the article “How Your Attitude Affects Your Reality” Honoree Corder states, “When something less-than-fantastic happens, you can respond or react. Choose to respond in whatever way is appropriate and then press the reset button on your attitude” (Corder). During a hard time, having a change in attitude is key, and very important. Having a negative attitude, however, will not help relieve the pain that is being felt. A hopeful and sanguine outlook on a situation will help to not focus on the unfortunate things in
Survival in a life or death situation is completely circumstantial and unpredictable.Laurence Gonzales’s central idea about survival in his essay “Deep Survival” is that it requires a positive mental attitude. Gonzales supports this claim by stating “...only by researching and dissecting the mysterious quality..called positive attitude would [he] ever understand survival” (334). Gonzales has presented a correct definition of a positive mindset as the most important tool in survival.A positive mindset compels a person to stay calm, make rational decisions and prevent them from giving up.
People sometimes have tough ordeals. Some may act negatively toward the problem, but the people that act positively toward the problem are able to see hope in places where they wouldn’t expect it to be in. People have been through cruelty, yet they continue to stay positive. People still have the positivity to cling onto their last hope, or even continue to think positively when there is no hope at all. People like Anne Frank, in Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, continue to stay positive throughout the horrible ordeals that have happened. Some of the Japanese in Dear Miss Breed: True Stories of the Japanese American Incarceration During World War II and a Librarian Who Made a Difference have continued to stay hopeful while in internment
Mood:Jeannette makes the most horriblest situation seem like nothing and makes the story more pleasant. Evidence:”The doctors said I was lucky to be alive. They took patches of skin from my upper thigh and put them over the most badly burned parts of my stomach, ribs, and chest. They said it was called a skin-graft. When they were finished they wrapped my entire side with bandages. “Look,I’m a half-mummy,” I said to one of the nurses. She smiled and put my right arm in a sling and attached it to the head board so I couldn’t move.” Although in a very serious situation, Jeannette m,akes the atmosphere and mood of the whole situation lighter and more joyful- the nurse had even smiled at her.Another example:”We did have our scratchy army-surplus blankets, so we spread them out and lay there, looking up at the field of stars. I told Lori how lucky we were to be sleeping out under the sky as Indians.” Although running from
This means that taking on a positive attitude during any situation or when faced with a set of circumstances, in other words you’re taking the same situation and same set of circumstances and giving those details a meaning. By doing this you can approach the situation with new possibilities, which gives new actions that you can take into that response. By seeing things in a variety of ways it helps you to build a range of understanding and you don’t become so narrow minded. Also, by taking this type of an attitude toward the various situations it will help you to become a better leader/manager
"In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart." Anne verbalized these words in her diary ingress. It was dated July 1944, several months before she perished in a concentration camp. Could you imagine being cooped up like Anne and her family was for about two and a half years? They were going through many difficult situations and three points to support is that she was always positive and rarely negative. Anne also never lost hope, and she had good people surrounding her with good thoughts to keep her going through this tough situation.
1. Anne Frank’s view on human nature is one that is every human is good at heart but sometimes people make bad decisions. This is her view because in the entry where she writes, “people are really good at heart.” She also writes about how she sees the world being transformed into wilderness and sees the approaching thunder destroying them and feeling the suffering of millions. These two statements show that even though she believes people can be good at heart. She also believes that people can make bad decisions in life.
Anne frank has been through some difficult times in her life. She was living through world war 2 , she was hiding out from the green police so her family and other would have to get sent to concentration camps. With harsh conditions, barely enough to eat, crowded, having to be quite majority of the time when other people were near, the constant fear of getting founded.Anne frank didn't have a simple, painless, effortless life, but she kept a diary of their experience and thoughts while they were hiding. One of her quotes were, "In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart". Why would anne think this in such a bad time, germans were turning against them...why would she think there is still good in people?
