Dear President Beeblebrox, supreme ruler of the Milky Way galaxy.
I am pleased to provide the following response to your inquiry requesting an explanation of the gun laws of the United States of America. (America).
America is situated on the continent of North America, in the Northern Hemisphere of the planet Earth, 4.6 light years southwest of Alpha Centauri. The local population is known as Homo Sapiens (Humans). The indigenous population of this land are known as American-Indians. Around 500 years ago small boats arrived from the east bringing both disease and guns; both of which were instrumental in both wiping out a large percentage of the native people and creating the modern America. I would like to begin by stating that the gun laws of America are based on the Second

This clearly shows that guns, having been recorded to have stopped a violent incident, have the potential to do so again in the future. The common conclusion here is that guns are therefore completely necessary to the function of American society and ownership should be increased to the extent where all members of society have the ability to defend themselves regardless of their age, physical or mental state.
Guns, titled “great,” by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump are, in his opinion, the only things keeping American citizens safe. Trump states that he “feels much better when armed” and is in full support of efforts to increase gun ownership. It is obvious that when everyone owns a gun, everyone will be safe. Gun related accidents do happen, for example, 23 people have been shot by toddlers this year, however, this is a price worth paying for the safety of the American
Many tragedies have occurred recently that have spurred the debate on whether or not we need tighter gun controls. On one side of the debate are the gun control supporters, who claim that the easy access to guns is the primary cause for high rates of crime plaguing the United States. On the other side are people who argue that gun laws will not prevent criminals from obtaining guns, since they will continue to get them illegally. Guns are used for protection when in the hands of people who obey the law. It is crucial to not hinder law-abiding citizen’s ability to possess firearms with stricter gun laws, since gun laws do not lower crime, and guns can keep people safe.
Gun control is a controversial issue for a long time around the world, particularly in U.S. because of a lots of mass shooting in school and public places. The second Amendment of the U.S. constitution is one of the shortest in all of the bill of right, it was written by the time period of American’s birth and it is the spirit of self-defense that help the new citizens of U.S. win their own freedom from the British. But now as the gun shooting problem happening every day in America, this gun control problem has gradually become to a hot issue. Compare to other countries like Britain, Canada, Japan, China, the difference between U.S. and those countries is in these countries to get a firearm is a very difficult thing
Significance: This topic is extremely significant because gun rights are under attack from many politicians in America, who are attempting to take protection out of the hands of the law-abiding citizens of this great country. Current laws in much of the country control what kind of gun people can and cannot own, as well as when and where they can carry them (if at all). In addition, more restrictive gun laws have not reduced mass shootings and have allowed for a larger number of gun-related deaths to occur.
In America, the average amount of people shot per year is 100,000; over ten thousand defenseless people are murdered. The Second Amendment’s proclamation that “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” has been an extensive topic of debate. Moreover, the amendment has been one of many debates over the several years throughout America. The discussion of gun control is often debated as to whether or not it is morally right to legally bypass the Second Amendment to avoid unlawful uses of arms. The Second Amendment allows citizens to carry firearms specifically for protection, gun control hinders that right and places civilians’ lives in danger. In short, the U.S. government’s intrusive restrictions on gun laws prevent law-abiding citizens from defending themselves with firearms.
“Interview the survivors of mass shootings and you hear these phrases a lot: Gunfire, they explain, rarely sounds like what it is… Many who have lived through the terror recall thinking it was a joke. A drill. Anything except the awful truth: that they might have only a few seconds to live” (“Stop the Violence” -Brody 220). Some people say guns make us feel safer, but in reality, they cause more harm than good. Arthur Kellermann and his colleagues concluded that, “Sadly, buying a gun does not make you safer. To the contrary, the evidence suggests that bringing a gun into your home increases the chances you will be killed” (“Feeling safe” -Vyse 27). Gun violence poses a very big threat to the U.S. “The U.S. has many more guns--and gun deaths--than any other developed country. In 2014, there were more than 33,000 such deaths in this country” (“Fight Over” 12). Guns are extremely dangerous and many deaths occur due to them, including murder, suicide, and accidental deaths, so stricter gun laws and technology should be used to decrease the number of gun deaths in the U.S.
I have chosen to discuss the culture of violence in America and how it relates to gun control. It seems we cannot turn on the television, computer or smart phone without reading about gun violence throughout the country. I believe America’s love affair with violence has contributed to an increase in violent crimes. Having said that, there are several incidences in the news where possessing a gun has proven to be helpful in keeping homeowners safe and alive. In one case, a son was at home during a home invasion and used his gun to prevent the attack. This incident happened in Wagoner County, Oklahoma. Three teens dressed in black, wearing masks and gloves, broke into a residence. Authorities arrived to find two of the intruders shot to death in the home, one suspect was found dead in the driveway, and later an additional accomplice turned herself in to the authorities (Wire). Also, there is the case in which a 73-year-old man stopped a home robbery because he had a gun and shot the intruder. The elderly man reported being robbed several times that year, likely contributing to his perceived need to arm himself.
In recent years, there have been many stories of shootings taken place across various parts of the United States, all of which bring up the highly volatile topic of gun control. Unlike many other wealthy countries, such as the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, and Australia, where gun ownership is strictly regulated, by in large-the US has very little universal gun control laws throughout the nation. This great controversy is based on the Constitutional right of the Second Amendment, stating, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Though this is a Constitutional right, unlike many other Amendments, understanding they were written in
For this reason, it is incredibly hard for the country to agree or disagree on controversial topics such as gun control. Gun control laws and restrictions are methods in reducing the accessibility of firearms to the ordinary citizen. The belief is that with less dangerous firearms in the streets, the less crime there will be. Numerous studies and evidence show that a reduction of gun ownership can ironically increase the crime rate. This trend might seem counter intuitive but when seen at a different perspective, it becomes logical. When law abiding citizens are not able to purchase a weapon but a criminal is through illegal means such as the black market, it leaves people helpless against the gunman. Many advocates for gun control seem to ignore the facts and trends that show that gun ownership and crime rate does not have any correlation. Instead, these advocates seem to rely on the emotional appeal of people, exploiting the tragedies that are caused by shootings, wars, and criminal activities. The purpose of this essay is to educate people on the negative side effects of gun control and on how guns can actually decrease
First of all, regarding to the 2nd amendment of the U.S. constitution. “People have the right to bear arms.”
I am writing to you today about the recent gun problems in America. In the past, America has been notorious for its’ mass shootings. From 1966 to 2012, almost a third of the world’s mass shootings took place in America and this is only the shootings where four or more people were killed. The number would be significantly higher if every single shooting was counted. Since the beginning of this year, there have been 384 shootings and we still have two months left in the year. That’s more than one shooting a day. However, it’s not a surprise there are this many shooting in America because there was a study done that shows that there are approximately 270 million guns owned by U.S. citizens. That means that in every hundred US citizens, 88.8 of
Currently, there have been more than 49,000 total gun-related incidents that have occurred in the United States, alone as of this year (Gun Violence Archive, n.p.). In fact, gun control laws have been a trending topic recently, especially because of the mass shooting that happened in Las Vegas (Joanne). A Frontline documentary titled “Gunned down: The Power of the NRA,” explained details of the point-of-view of the National Rifle Association regarding guns (Gunned Down, n.p.). It also included interviews with parents and professionals regarding school shootings, incidents, and gun control laws (Gunned Down, n.p.). Therefore, with the information gathered from the video, along with my personal research, I have concluded that there should be more gun control laws in the United States. Along with that, the nation should also consider creating a process through which guns are correctly distributed to those who are properly licensed to have one. The reasons there should be more gun control laws is because it would reduce the number of firearm-related deaths, it would decrease the number of mass shootings, and because the Second Amendment is not actually an unlimited right to own guns.
Many people believe that guns are bad and that banning guns will make America a safer place, I will inform you today about how if we take guns away it will hurt America more than help. I chose this because this is a very popular topic in America and because I believe it will make America a more dangerous place rather than a safer place. Today I will inform you about the reasons gun control will hurt America. I will do this first by informing you about recent gun control efforts after the Parkland Shooting and how these efforts will not do a thing to America. Second, I will tell you the movement for gun control and how if we tried a different approach, by allowing guns, it would be more beneficial to the American people in many ways. Then the
Access to guns in the United States (US) is too easy and the laws governing access should be strengthened. Current US gun laws are very permissive, which has led to excessive gun-related violence and deaths. Guns are one of the leading causes of violence in the US at the moment, and access to guns (legally and illegally) is very easy. Currently, there are ~211 million firearms in circulation and 70 million are handguns. (1) Today, there is at least one gun in fifty-percent of households in the United States. In 24 states, any person who is 18 years of age or older can go into a gun store, fill out a form, wait a couple of weeks and then go home with a gun. In 33 states, gun owners are not restricted from selling guns to anyone at gun
This article shows that guns save more than they kill. Giving facts and evidence of the situation. Showing that in many situations a gun is a great equalizer and makes the weakest of us just as strong if not stronger than the strongest. I’m going to use this point to show how much good guns actually do.
This paper was well articulated and put together. The resources I used were from real life experiences, and from the events that have happened to other citizens in their everyday lives. I have gathered numerous sources to back up my reasoning. Ranging from charts, the constant activity of hate groups, numerous mass shootings in the matter of five months, laws being passed to help the concealment of weapons, and even substantial reasoning why guns can be useful.
