A topic that has came up is if the death penalty is too harsh? The death penalty or capital punishment is a constitutional law but, changes have been made to the constitution before and some states have even abolished it. Capital punishment has been argued over the last few years as being too harsh.
One of the reasons that capital punishment should be extinguished is because it is harsh. They use a method of lethal injection which is a shot given in the arm that contains sodium thiopental, pancuronium bromide and potassium chloride that causes unconsciousness and stops the heart. One of the problems with this is that when this is injected into the body it can sometimes cause more pain than it is supposed to also it can cause criminals to be screaming, gasping for air and convulsing. After the fact they can see foot-long burn marks where the injection was made.

In 1990 the US General Accounting Office found “racial disparities in the charging, sentencing and imposition of the death penalty”. A defendant was seven times more likely to be sentenced to the death penalty if they were white.
Another reason that the death penalty should be taken away is because it is overall just unfair. Most defendants can’t even afford their own attorney when they are trialed, defendant’s can get different sentences meaning someone might be sentenced to death and others might get prison time or maybe even walk away free.
The cost of Capital punishment is also very expensive. In 2003 a legislative audit found the death penalty was 70% more($1.26mil) than that of a non death penalty case($740,00).
In conclusion Capital punishment is harsh. It is very cruel and it should be abolished. Capital punishment should not be allowed in our country if it is a system that can’t claim anyone guilty. Also it is very expensive and I think that it is harm and
