When a close friend of yours decides to make a decision and you didn’t even know that idea was even a thought, what would you want to do? Cody, in Gayle novel I Was Here, goes through so much once she starts digging into emails and deleted files to find the reason as to why her best friend Meg, committed suicide. How do you not know that your best friend is so unhappy and considering to end her life, no matter the good coming towards her while in college? Cody, not trying to barge so much into her family’s life, goes miles and spends the only money she has, just to find out what made him make this final decision ad why Meg never talked to her about any of this. “She didn’t tell me that she found life to be so unbearably painful… How can you not know that about your best friend? Even if she doesn’t tell you, how can you not know? How can you believe someone to be beautiful and amazing and just about the most magical person you’ve ever known, when it turns out she was in such pain that she had to drink poison,” Cody explains this at Megs college towns memorial service. Considering the fact that they have been friends for so long, Meg’s family being a real family to Cody, and never knowing a thing.
