Definition Essay On Heroism

A hero is someone who has given her or his life to something bigger than oneself. A quote from Joseph Campbell, this quote can represent a lot for a definition of what a hero is. A hero is someone who gives something for something they believe is bigger. That's my representative of that quote.

A hero is defined as someone who in the face of danger steps up and puts others needs before theirs, expecting no reward in return. In the article “What Makes a Hero?” by Phillip Zimbardo, the author expresses that everyone has the ability to help others, whether it is a small deed like leading a guiding hand to someone who needs it, or it can be as intense as pulling someone out of a burning car. The writer attempts to emphasize the importance of doing the right thing by stating,  “Few people do evil and fewer act heroically.” (Zimbardo). In addition, heroes act not for the fame or the money, but for their own satisfaction. “Heroes represent the best of ourselves, respecting that we are human beings. A hero can be anyone from Gandhi to your classroom teacher, anyone who can show courage when faced with a problem. A hero is someone who is willing to help others in his or her best capacity.” (Ricky Martin). Being a hero can shape a community as a whole, some people can make a positive impacts but somehow the hero's might not even be recognized and be unscathed of any praise. But also some people consider others heros but do not fit in necessary . A hero is someone who influences makes a positive impact on a person or community.

“ A hero is somebody who voluntarily walks into the unknown .” When a hero keeps on going and never stop trying that makes them a hero.When a hero puts there life at risk just to save another life, even though it could mean losing their own that makes them a hero. Someone who goes through great challenges but never stops trying is a hero. Ahero is not someone who gives up or someone who is selfish.Heroism is being selflessness, someone who makes sacrifices, and someone who never gives up.

The definition of a hero is not a simple dictionary definition. Heroism is a complex idea, but many people in history have been regarded as heroes. These great figures were honored by all, it is they who embody heroism. They made a large change for the better in our society. While this change is what made them stand out, all you need to be is one who helps and trusts others even if you have to sacrifice something for them.

A hero can sacrifice something for themselves to help others in need. A hero can fix problems, but they do not need super strength or the ability to fly, they can be a normal person. A hero is someone who keeps fighting for what’s right, any ordinary person can be a hero, heroism is not being selfish, it’s being selfless.

A hero is a man of courage and ability who is admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. A hero is a person who does not come along very often in any time period. He is a special person, who is a step above the average person in the way that he handles any situation that may arise.

Is it a “hero” from the movies, like spiderman or batman? The idea of heroism is widespread and many opinions arise from the concept. A hero is someone who goes out of their way for another’s well being. Calvin Coolidge, a writer, once said, “Heroism is not only in the man, but in the occasion.” (Brainy quote). For one to actually be a hero, one must take the opportunity at any occasion. Heroism occurs often in the real world, many examples are established in novels, and there are many different opinions among the theory of heroism, but in reality the only real meaning is one who helps

“A hero isn’t measured by a size of his strength, but by the strength of his heart.” If you don't have a heart, you can't be defined as a hero. Heroism is being a leader, being brave ,and having courage.

A hero can come in all forms. In my mind, a hero puts the sake of others- be it loved ones or true strangers- before their own. This can range from a fireman rushing into a burning building with no hesitation to save a family of strangers, to someone spending the holidays working at a soup kitchen to serve those less fortunate than them self. Having the pure kindness to care for others before caring for one self not only exemplifies heroism,

To me, a hero is someone that makes things better for someone else. Someone who dedicates their life to changing other people’s.

The definition of hero changes to the time and place we live in and changes person to person for me a hero is someone who scarify they own needs or confute to help others and does good things without being asked to it. A hero is someone who has goodness in their heart not doing things for fame or their own needs.

Courage and bravery leap to mind first when we think of heroism. It's difficult to achieve anything truly heroic unless you're up against daunting odds. As Nelson Mandela put it, "Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it."

What is a hero? Are soldiers at war heroes? What about Malala Yousafzai and Rosa Parks? Are they considered heroes? The Merriam Webster dictionary describes a hero as “a person who is greatly admired for great acts”. Yet, is this definition enough to define what heroism truly is? Heroism is not about executing epic acts and gaining glory or fame from it. True heroes put others’ needs before theirs; never give up when faced with overwhelming obstacles and stand up for their beliefs regardless of the consequences.

Heroism is a term that many people know of, many people understand, and many people recognize as nothing more than meaning “great bravery” or someone showing what is referred to as “heroic conduct” in the face of danger. Now, while many people understand the definition of heroism simply for what it is, most people do not understand the true meaning of heroism, which goes above and beyond a simple definition and into the very nature of humanity itself. The true definition of heroism is something impossible to describe via words, and only possible to describe via action; the only true examples of the actual meaning of the word coming from the brave people willing to risk themselves for the protection of others or to do something that others would
