A few things are happening soon and for us to be excited about. One is for this Saturday's picnic we will close at 4:30pm as the email stated yesterday. I do hope to see all of you there to enjoy a nice evening by of the family and shorebirds and of course the food!!! We also will be starting to use ICD-10. This is being used all over. From the billing prospective this is a wonderful way of documenting. When we first start this it may take us a few extra minutes with our time patients that have been here before, however; once we do this we will not have to do it again since the codes will then be ICD-10. More information is coming on this.
As a reminder at ALL times you need to please document your results in the chart. If the chart is locked please ask the provider to unlock this so you can place the results inside the chart. Please continue to check over your documentation when you don't do this it holds up the billing process. As another reminder your arrival time should always be 15 minutes early this will ensure that all things are ready to go in the morning and to ensure proper coverage in case you have to take over a patient.

This should be located on your left upper pocket so we are can stay in uniform. If I see anyone not wearing it I will ask you once and moving forward if I see you not wearing it disciplinary action could happen. This is a requirement for us at YDI (this is in your handbook) but also by
You are letting the provider know what the patient chief complaint or reasoning is to be seen at the office that day. All information the patient has prior will be beneficial for the process of the claim.
HIPAA requires two designate coding system to be used to report to private and public payers; this is HCPCS and ICD-10. This coding system is primarily used in the United States and it is used by healthcare providers, including physicians and hospitals. Icd-10 is useful for reporting inpatient and HCPCS is used for procedure reporting for outpatient service and they are both assigned to DRG group. Once the health service is performed, charge captures are slips that are posted to a patient’s account that is processed as a batch order system. The key to the ordering system and charge capture is the “charge code” which is then reflected each service, procedure, supply item or drugs in the chargemaster (CDM). Medical claims fall into one of two types: CMS
It took a long process to convert to ICD-10, ICD-9 was a huge thing and was commonly used in the 1980's. It was until October of 2013 when they decided to convert to ICD-10 would happen and be implemented. It took over 20 years just to move to another move.
I think one of the biggest challenges transitioning from ICD-9 to ICD-10 will me the amount of codes the ICD-10 book has. I think at first it will be a little hard getting used to but once we get used to it, I think it's going to be fine.
Having the lack of knowledge of the ICD-10 coding will not only affect our patients care from longer waiting time for authorizations to even denials. I also believe that it will affect the revenue that we receive into our facility from the insurance companies. Judith Veazie (October, 2014) author of the article “Creating an ICD-10 Training Strategy” states that no matter what field of healthcare you are in you will be affected by the current change to ICD-10. This new system provides better ways to submit your insurance claims for processing for reimbursement if coded properly. Veazie also says the benefit of ICD-10 is the specific amounts of codes that are now available to us which in return will be a benefit to our patients and facility.
Staff must be aware that the old and new ICD will have to co-exist while the system
ICD-10-CM is the acronym for which is known to the International Classification of Diseases tenth revision clinical modification. provided by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), for medical coding and reporting in the United States. This code system is used for decades by doctors and healthcare industry worldwide to diagnose diseases and conditions in standard ways. The ICD-10 is not a new simple version of the previous standard otherwise, the adoption of this code will impact all aspects of the healthcare industry. The change will require not only the acquisition and implementation of new equipment and computerized programs, it also take a more detailed process of medical
As a society we are always evolving and discovering new information. It would make sense that with all this new innovation we have, we also advance our knowledge medically as well. Medicine has grown so much just within the past 50 years. It's the same concept with our ICD codes. The US has been slow to adapt to the ICD-10 codes and now 2 years after it's been implemented we have to adjust to the new codes. It does sound too fast to adapt, but in all reality with all the new information we have it's necessary.
A lot of complaints were received regarding the EC billings, especially yellow patients. It was suggested that billing structure be reviewed and that patients are billed according to their exit billing code and not to triage colour. YH suggested that examples of accounts must be presented to AN. Cost around nursing input needs to be determined.
ICD-10 coding system is very different from the ICD-9 coding system which contains 13,000 codes compare to 68,000 codes. ICD-10 coding system is also very complicated. Here are some differences between ICD-10 and ICD-9 coding systems:
Our volumes continue low through the week of 11/11-11/25. At this time we continue to cancel accordingly on all shifts at this time.
Hope everyone is doing well. The reason I am contacting you is because we will be having our staff photo taken next Thursday at 7:45 a.m. This is a great opportunity for all the staff members to get together and also for our patients to get to know us better. Having our staff picture hanged in the hallway of the lobby brings many memories to patients since they get to see which staff member have worked with them. This is always a fun experience since every year we get to see the pictures back and look how our staff has been growing.
Although implementation of ICD-10 adoption by other countries started in the 1990s, the US was hesitant with adopting a new system, ultimately affecting many businesses’ efficiency. Cost was the biggest concern, with implementation comes training, errors and upkeep of the new system. Chute describes implementation of ICD-10 as “expensive, arduous, disruptive, and of limited clinical benefit” (Chute 2012: 839). ICD-10 includes more descriptive and specific diagnostic codes, but its ability measure clinical data is not better than its previous version (Chute 2012: 839). Pear also agrees that the new coding system requires more strenuous work for physicians. Physicians would have to be even more specific with claims, and if re-submission is an option it also requires extra effort (Pear 2015:
The International Statistical Institute adopted the first international classification edition, known as the International List of Causes of Death, in 1893. WHO was entrusted with the ICD at its creation in 1948 and published the 6th version, ICD-6, that incorporated morbidity for the first time. The WHO Nomenclature Regulations, adopted in 1967, stipulated that Member States use the most current ICD revision for mortality and morbidity statistics. The ICD has been revised and published in a series of editions to reflect advances in health and medical science over time. ICD is the foundation for the identification of health trends and statistics globally, and the international standard for reporting diseases and health conditions. It is the
