Laura is a nice, shy, smart girl and she loves to play all kinds of sports like volleyball and basketball, but her most favorite sport of all is softball. Today is Laura’s first softball game she is excited and nervous at the same time, and all day all she could think about is what if I throw the ball the wrong way or what if I make a terrible throw or can’t catch the ball when the ball was being thrown right to her glove. Laura is also thinking about all of the good things that could happen too like she gets the last out or she scores a homerun with the bases loaded. With all of these emotions Laura is having a hard time concentrating at school and doesn’t get a to good of a grade on an assignment. Then when one of Laura’s friends Riley walks up to her to ask Laura what is wrong she said that the same thing was happening to her to so that made them both feel better about everything knowing that they weren’t the only ones feeling that way. When school was over Riley went over to Laura’s house so they could practice a little bit before their game and they both practiced really well and that made them more confident and ready to play but Laura was still nervous because she didn’t want to do anything really embarrassing at their game in Trenton. It has been an hour and Laura and Riley were off to the Trenton field to play softball. When they finally arrived they were the first ones there because Laura’s dad was one of the coaches, so they went down to look at the field and it
Imagine standing on a softball field expected to perform at the age of 5. Even though the butterflies in my stomach were starting a war, nothing was going to stop me from stepping on that field to play my first tee ball game as a Little Tiger. Fans cheered, but what I noticed most was a little boy in the outfield picking his nose. Standing in the box, I was terrified; the field looked huge. I had never seen anything like this before, but I knew that the little boy was the person I needed to hit the ball to, so I hit the ball as hard as I could. The ball went soaring through the air like a bird on fire. Dropping from the air, it rolled to the fence. At that time, I knew I had fallen in love with the game of softball. I was smiling from ear to ear, I couldn’t believe I had hit the ball that far! Both sides screamed, yelled, and shouted with excitement. Was all this commotion for me? I rounded first, but I couldn’t go to second because my teammate, Kylie Leach, didn’t run. I didn’t know what she was doing. Sadly, the batter after me hit a ground ball to the pitcher, and the other team threw him out at first.
Kayce Dirnbauer Mrs. Aigner English April 20, 2015 “Its a girl Thing” Softball was invented in 1887 as in indoor game in Chicago. In 1926 Softball was given its name. There were many different names that were given such as indoor baseball, but was soon moved outdoors mushball, softbund ball, playground, Kitten softball, and ladies baseball. Softball is just like baseball but with a bigger ball on a smaller field. There was a tournament helds in 1933 at the Chicago World’s Fair and that when america started the interest in softball.
Focused and determined during batting practice; we hardly spoke. I looked around to see intense eyes complimented by the black smudges we had painted underneath. I wondered if anyone else was feeling the way I was. I was ecstatic and pumped up but I was also melancholy. I suddenly realized as I was standing with my teammates that this was our last tournament together. I was a senior, the oldest on the team. At that moment I decided to lay it all out, not for myself but for my coaches and my teammates. It was my last day of Aces softball so I knew I had to make it
Softball has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a little kid my dad would teach me how to hit in the backyard with a Wiffleball bat that was taller than me. As the years passed, I started to fall in love with the sport more than I imagined possible. From little league to travel ball and all the way through varsity high school ball, it has always been a huge part of my life. Most people don’t understand the sport or how someone can be so engulfed in every aspect of it. However, they don’t get to experience the life lessons that this sport of extreme highs and lows teaches the player. It teaches you patience. It teaches you that imperfection is normal. It teaches you that things can turn around in the blink of an eye and most importantly, it teaches you that all good things must come to an end.
Softball is a growing sport for girls within the United States. Whether you are an 8-year-old girl, to a senior in college softball, it’s a sport that many are attached too. A new form of hitting came into play during the 2005 Women’s College Series. Slap hitting is a new form of hitting that changed the way the game of fast-pitch softball is being played. Slapping changed the way coaches and players think about how they are going to field a slap hitter. This form of hitting is becoming a major role within fast-pitch softball. When I got the opportunity to learn how to slap hit I was excited to gain this ability. With practice, patience and determination, I began to learn the hitting style that I use today.
Softball is a sport that is known throughout the United States and the world. Softball originated on Thanksgiving Day in Chicago in 1887. The game was actually said to have begun as an indoor game. Softball was started by a group of men who had gathered at a club to watch the Harvard vs. Yale football game. When the news came that Yale had defeated Harvard, 17-8, one Yale supporter, overcome with enthusiasm, picked up an old boxing glove and threw it at a nearby Harvard alumni, who promptly tried to hit it back with a stick. This gave George Hancock, a reporter for the Chicago Board of Trade, an idea. He suggested a game of indoor baseball. Naturally, Hancock's friends thought he was talking about playing a game outdoors, not indoors.
It was a nice and sunny day, with birds chirping and the smell of freshly cut grass. I felt the leather on my baseball glove and the delicious taste of cereal. I’m ready to play some baseball.
Softball has always been my favorite sport. It’s the fast pace of my heart as I’m rounding the bases, fast as lightning, making contact with the corner of the grungy white bases with a heavy coat of red dirt layering the edges, prepared to dive into home base, the sound of the bat making solid compact with the bright, attention grabbing yellow ball, the smell of the dew delicately resting on the fields of green grass, giving everyone a relaxed feeling of being in nature.
By now, Jennie’s life was focused on softball, though she did have a normal life outside the sport. She liked to shop, try on her mom’s makeup and hang out with her friends. In school, she was an excellent student. But softball consumed most of her free time. Every summer the sport brought her to a new part of the country for a national tournament.
I watch a baseball smack right off my bat and look at it fly threw the air like an exotic toucan. I can see the fans in the stand go silent and just watch the ball soar.
Isabelle was moved up to softball and Addison was still in lob ball. Addison started out amazingly and continued throughout the season to get progressively better. Isabelle started out great and slowly went downhill, even though the coach she had was far superior to Addison’s coach. The team Isabelle was on was filled with kids that were on traveling teams and had been playing for years; this was only her second year. All the kids on her team were outstanding and Isabelle couldn’t keep up.
As I was growing up, my parents always wanted to find something to help me be active with other children. I was extremely shy and would not talk to anyone. At the age of six, I chose to try out for softball, but I was not sure if it was something I would continue to play. Softball has helped me break out of my comfort zone and talk to people, make lifelong friends, and be stronger as an individual. The older I got, the more open I was, but my first year of JV is what broke my shell.
This was it. The Aviano Softball team of 2015 has worked so hard during the season and were on their way to the championship game. I along was part of the team for the past three years, and I’ve seen how we have grown from underdogs to the next powerhouse of Division II. During the first day, we mercy ruled AFNORTH and Ansbach. The second day arrived to determine where we would be in the semifinals, and we won against Hohenfels. The next morning was competitive; the final game was nerve wracking but it was all worth it in the end.
“ Mira mi princesa, hermosa como su mama, también juega softball como su mama asi mismo” - “ Look at my princess, beautiful like her mommy, she also plays softball like her mom, that’s it.” Ever since my father said that to me, it stuck with me. Firstly, because I look up to my mom so many words can't even describe, well a few can, for instance strong, charismatic, kind, beautiful, smart, wise and so much more. It all started, when I was six years old when my parents put me in tee-ball, I hated it so much, in the beginning, I remember I would create excuses after excuses to not play. Because back then I was being forced to do something I definitely didn't want to do, but as I got older, I was starting to get a feel for it, and slowly started to love the sport.
“Not everyone is going to see or accept you for who you are, and you have to accept that.” I was told this quote everyday by my mother. Today was no different, walking up to the raked field, quote on my mind , eyes on the fresh red clay, and the sound of my metal cleats against the concrete. I was ready for this day. After months of hard work from November to February , the tryouts for Central softball team were over. Over the span of four months, I pushed myself harder than I ever thought I could, but what I did never seemed to be enough for the team.
