It was a short drive to the hotel, and the scenery was pretty cool, but I was really waiting for arrival time. I couldn't wait to see the hotel, and I had no clue what to expect. I eyes drifted out the window at all the tall trees on the hilly landscape. The trees filled the hill, and there was on sight of the forest floor. Coming of age in Mississippi is an autobiography of the life of Anne Moody. She grew up poor and Black in the rural south and how that turned her into an activist for black rights. The book was divided into four parts, her childhood, high school years, college life, and adult life during the movement. Anne grew up in a family that was victimized; they suffered from poverty, hunger, and the difficulties of farm life, low wages, childhood labor, colorism conflicts, and a lack of a father figure. The blacks in the community she grew up in also suffered from lynching and Klan activity, segregation, low paying jobs, and lack of police protection. During her childhood she began to work for numerous White families as a housekeeper. She began to have a different point of view on a lot of things in life. Anne received fair treatment from majority of her employers which encouraged her to want better for herself. At the age of 15 she was disgusted with her community and the Whites and Blacks who lived there. She went to New Orleans and Baton Rouge for the summer. She became bored with Centerville and was eager to leave and start her adult life. She shortly after graduated and went on to Natchez College on a basketball scholarship and then transferred to Tugaloo College. The State Fair, for many years, has brought together people from statewide, even nationwide. Coming from Texas, I have been a part of the tradition of extravagant state fairs since I was as child, and have had the pleasure of meeting people from all over the nation. State fairs have many attractions that convey the beauty and culture of the state in events and contests which show the production of agriculture and, in the twentieth century, industrial gains. The fairs typically consist of things such as carnivals, which have numerous rides like we see in the film, State Fair, and contests that promote a culture of domesticity. The film, State Fair, is a perfect example which explains the importance of the state fair, but also American society and culture. Furthermore, State Fair being filmed after World War II truly captures the happiness of postwar America, as well as the importance of family life as the shadow of the Cold War looms.

With the population of texas being 26.96 million people you wouldn't be surprised to find out that Texas’s state fair is huge. The state fair is an annual fair held in Dallas at Historic Fair park. The fair has taken place every year since 1886 except for a few years during WW1 and WW2. It usually begins the last friday in September and ends 24 days later. It is recognized as one of the most highly attended and best state fairs in america.

Greenwood has also been known for having lots of cotton and is known for being the cotton market. Being known for cotton, Greenwood was named “The Cotton Capital of the World. Prior to the Civil War Greenwood shipped cotton throughout New Orleans, Louisiana, Memphis, Tennessee, and St. Louis, Missouri.

When you go to a fair you get fair food and the same applies to a festival. Carolina Rebellion has a whole section dedicated to food called the “Pig Out Village”. I recently talked to a few people on Carolina Rebellion’s fan page on Facebook and some of the favorites they mentioned were the turkey legs and classic Bar-B-Que. For me my favorite is the Macaroni and Cheese vendor Mac Attack. The Buffalo Chicken Macaroni and Bacon Jalapeno Macaroni are both spicy, but so filling. Being one of the biggest attraction in Bloomsburg that only comes once a year it is a huge deal to the residents that live here all year round. The local schools sometimes shuts down for the whole entire week or maybe just for a long weekend. This fair is practically everything you would imagine a state fair would be and they have it all here. You can adopt a puppy, play with farm animals, and whatever you could think you would need they will have it. If your looking for good deals on home decor your best bet is to go when its closer towards the end of the week when the fair is almost over because at that point people do not want to be traveling back home with stuff they brought up and just want to get rid of it. This fair even has all the traditional shows you see in the movies such as the bearded lady, the man with no head, and they even had one named serpent lady all for the cost of 50 cents. Alpha Sigma Alpha devotes their time into this fair every year and withholds two stands, one where you can play darts and the other where you put a quarter down and spin the wheel to see if the arrow lands on the one you picked. Today marks the day where the state fair comes to town and they released a new ride called “Erikson’s ride”

It is Thursday, August 24th, the opening day of the Minnesota State Fair. I am here with my family, a friend and his mom, and one of my sister’s friends. It seems so long since last year’s fair. I always look forward to the state fair, even though it’s pretty much the same every year.
