On the south rim of the Grand Canyon there is many different points to stop at. The one that stood out the most was the Desert View Watchtower, or as I call it “The Castle”. The watchtower is four stories high, and you are to climb 85 steps to get up to the top. When you make your way to the top you see these beautiful pictures a Hopi artist drew on to the walls of the tower. Climbing those narrow staircases up to the top you get this breath-taking view when you finally get there. Looking out at the Grand Canyon you get to see the Colorado River and its beauty, the millions of years of rock erosion that once used to be covered in water, and the little greenery that lines the top of the Canyon. As I was there and looking out at the canyon I
Canyonlands National Park, immense amounts of wilderness and rock, is located at the heart of the Colorado Plateau (Canyonlands National Park-Geology). Millions of years have formed specific features to the rock and surrounding wilderness that make it so special. Throughout the park, you will find that the sedimentary rock has formed many features such as hundreds of colorful canyons, mesas, buttes, fins, arches, and spires. The Green and Colorado rivers have played a major role in the formation of many of these features. These rivers cut through the park forming two massive canyons. This further splits the park into three distinct zones. “Island in the Sky” sits to the north while “The Maze” sits off to the west and “The Needles” to the
Our hike will start here, at the north rim of the Grand Canyon. We will go all the way to the bottom of the canyon. But first, a description of this area. The Grand Canyon is one on the most visited and studies sites for geologists on Earth. There are almost forty major sedimentary rock layers exposed in the Grand Canyon. Some of these rocks layers are two hundred million years old or two billion years old. Most of the sediment that makes up the rocks was deposited by oceans and seas, which now, are long gone. We know this because there are many fossils and and other records on large bodies of water in the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is found in the Colorado Plateau. The Colorado Plateau is lifted almost two miles, or four and a fifth kilometers. It started to lift up seventy-five million years ago. This started a mountain-building period of time called the Laramide orogeny. During this period, the Rocky Mountains were created. The main types of rocks found in the Grand Canyon are limestone, siltstone, shale, and sandstone. Many of the layers are made up of limestone. Some examples of these are the Kaibab Limestone, the Redwall Limestone the Temple Butte Limestone, and the Muav
If you ever get a chance to visit Chaco Canyon National Monument in New Mexico, you should take the time to just stand in the desert and listen. The silence in this place is physical; you can feel it surround you. This is a silence with depth and layers that are unbroken even by the wind, which moves through emptiness and speaks only in occasional sighs through the canyons. The air itself is very clear—the lack of humidity gives the cliffs and buttes sharp lines, and the colors of the earth, though muted, stand in stark relief to the blueness of the sky. Night comes gradually to this place. The height and dryness of the air allows the stars to appear before the sun has set—creating an odd
Where the Grand Canyon and Lake Mead collide, sits an ecological and historical oasis. The Virgin Mountains stand tall in the background as waterfront views of Mead paint an unforgettable scene. This desert abode served as host for early prehistoric inhabitants, Native Americans, early pioneers, Spanish miners, and presently outdoor enthusiasts. Adventurists have the opportunity to explore over 800 miles of intertwining roads that braid the landscape. Gold Butte has remained one of Mojave 's most precious secrets for decades. This elegant desert hides only an hour and a half drive east of Las Vegas and just south of Mesquite Nevada. Gold Butte 's ecosystem is comprised of diverse organisms, many of which are sacred and protected plants and animals. Joshua trees sit nestled deep in the mineral enriched sand, while the bighorn sheep and tortoise roam the vast desert terrain. The almost 350,000 acres of public land is sculpted with rugged mountains, sandstone outcroppings, yucca forests, slot canyons, and flat top mesas. Is it possible that a place with such a unique array of wildlife and history can exist and remain a secret? Unfortunately, due to many factors over the past 20 years, Gold Butte has been on center stage, but not just for tourism.

Bryce Canyon National Park is a one of a kind, grand formation located in southern Utah, east of neighboring Zion National Park and north of Grand Canyon National Park. All three of these parks share a place on the Colorado Plateau but Bryce is the only one to feature natural hoodoos, extensive wildlife, and an environment prime for any person to surround themselves with the artwork of mother nature. Ever since 1915, when the park was first founded, people from all pieces of the country have come to see the amazing sights within the park but there is so much more to it than the gorgeous pictures that can only capture now.
The ghinnawa is not only a vehicle for expressing personal sentiments but also a potentially subversive tool challenging the existing ideology and hierarchy. In Bedouin society, most people’s ordinary public responses are framed in terms of the code of honor and modesty. Through these responses they live and show themselves to be living up to the moral code. Poetry carries the sentiments that violate this code, the vulnerability to others that is ordinarily a sign of dishonorable lack of autonomy and the romantic love that is considered immoral and immodest. Since the moral code is one of the most important means of perpetuating the unequal structures of power, then violations of the code must be understood as ways of resisting the system and
Have you ever wondered how the Grand Canyon was made? How it was carved? It had been carved by John Grand. He was the man that had carved that 277 mile canyon. He was a really strong man with big muscles. He had did it with just one lucky hammer.
In the article “A Race to the top of the Most Beautiful Place on Earth by Reese Wells, Reese emphasizes that land holds a special meaning and can be the most beautiful place on earth. More specifically, it has spiritual meanings in which by its name only certain people can hike on such place. The Zion National Park known for its treacherous features of it’s thin peak and its steep edges. Although of

While the Grand Canyon is a gorgeous piece of natural art, it also has a looming sense of intimidation. This National Park poses as a tourist attraction but also a hazard to families. In the past, when America was expanding west, many explorers and even curious people ventured into the unknown of the Canyon. We think that delving into the Grand Canyon would be much better now, rather than then.
Camel raiding is a part of Bedouin culture. It’s a show where men display their capability of handling a camel. Although it is banned nowadays, it was highly admired in men’s honor code, then. Men, who failed to comply the code, and his family were disgraced. The rules were manageable; not to frighten the camel but rather to be gentle, not to harm neither women nor children and not to do the raiding with the morning light. These rules were put, in order to show the regard and hospitality towards the
We drove to Zion Canyon to spend a couple of days there. On our way, we went through a tunnel, that went into a mountain. It was amazing, every minute or so there would be a little window in the rock, where the light came in the tunnel. We took pictures of the sunrise on the rocks. We stayed at the Quality Inn Montclair Hotel. The Springdale shuttles took us to the visitor center, where we waited to board the Park shuttle buses. We stopped at stop number nine, Temple of Sinawava, and walked the Riverside Walk, which was paved and ended where the Narrows began.
Often when I think of canyons I think of time being etched into a stone creating deep, intricate gorges. The first time I encountered a picture taken from the inside a canyon, it made me think back to the imagery I would use to describe my own life. A ravine with so many edges and turns that in pieces do not make sense but, when put together create this sort of channel running through the rock. I noticed that without the sun 's rays shining down, the canyon becomes dark, hollow, and full of chaos waiting to happen. However, when the light shines in the ravine there is a rainbow effect running up the rock and all the little etchings adding more glory to the overall masterpiece.
The scenic geological wonder of the Grand Canyon was glorious and more immense than we
