Sometimes when we have experiences that change our lives we have trouble finding the words to describe what happened. The event that changed my life was one of those experiences. Earlier this year I went to Detroit with some friends for a festival called Movement. The festival is three days, Saturday to Monday, in downtown Detroit just across the lake from Canada. The artists that play there are legends of underground house music and other genres of electronic music. This music was created in Detroit, so the locals have a lot of pride in this scene. Even the mayor declared the week of the festival “Detroit Techno Week,” recognizing the tourism and the revenue that is generated in light of this event.
We arrived on Friday to go to the after
An experience that really changed my life was when my grandfather was on the verge of death in the hospital. I remember seeing my family crying and my heart ached. I visited him every day and came home to study for my exams. I would sleep late every night to study and cry. In that moment, I realized how precious life was and how much of an impact we as individuals have other people. Ever since, I have tried to enjoy every single moment of life, whether a simple walk to school or spending time with my family.
There are many significant parts of my life that have had a huge impact on my personality, but there is one that has not only affected me, but has changed me for the better. My personal life changing experience was coming to America. For me, this bridge between my old life and new life is a shaky bridge that I attempted to cross and entered a whole new realm of life which changed everything. The decision about coming to America has taught me how to respect other people, be more responsible, and be more loving towards various friends and families. It has also helped me adapt to the new life that I’m about to begin. It was so unexpected. Out of nowhere my parents broke the news: “We’re going to America!” Living in a big town of Bhopal,
There has been many important events that have occurred since I have been born but there is one in particular that has sparked a light in me that has changed the way i have looked at things. It happened when I was playing with the Sacramento FC and everything was going well until the middle of the season. When we got to the middle of the season things started to look shady. I wasn't getting playing time and that really opened my eyes to reality. Soccer was not the only thing that I needed to do in order to have a good life. I needed to start focusing on my dreams and different routes to success other then just soccer. It really showed what I need to do in order to survive in the real world. If it was not for my family's support through this
In a world of political discourse with racism and hate running rampant, a few great men and women came together to bring unity and harmony like never before: in the form of massive music festivals. In the late 1972, the black community came together for a concert known as Watts Summer Festival. In 1969, the largest music festival of its time was held, and was known as Woodstock. Later that year, the Rolling Stones put together a massive free concert in San Francisco known as the Altamont Concert. All of the concerts and music festivals were not aimed at making money or becoming famous, but about the unity of people through the art of music.
On an early Sunday morning, police sirens rang out on 12th Street near Clairmount waking up near by neighbors. Police rushed an establishment known as a blind pig, or afterhours party. As police dealt with the eighty or so partiers, the growing crowd’s curiosity quickly turned to anger as they discovered the outrageous police actions. Things only escalated into what is known as the Detroit ’67 riots. However, there are many different perspectives on this event. Some consider the event more of a rebellion or an uprising. It might even be something entirely different. As the mysteries of the 1967 events are unraveled, perspectives often change. What might have once been considered a riot can quickly be changed to a rebellion or uprising. All it takes is some critical thinking.
Another critical moment in my life that changed me forever occurred in August of 2001. At the peak of hurricane season, Louisiana was terribly affected by Hurricane Katrina. Katrina devastated millions of people across the south. For the first time in my life I got to experience what it felt like to be homeless. I had lost everything! And even though it was not much, it still mattered. There were several moments when I prayed and wished that my father could be there. No child, my age should have to go through with what I did. In hopes to find assistance, my mother left me and my siblings with my grandmother for a few months. These months were terrifying. I remember crying several nights
I moved to the state of Delaware and I had been sitting “dormant” for about a year and I was doing my own thing. Then, one day I was going for a motorcycle ride and I saw “volunteers needed”. It was a marquee board outside of a firehouse in Little Creek Delaware. I decided to stop and see what they had to offer or should I say now what I had to offer them. I stopped in and talked with the chief and I decided to give it a shot. I never realized how rewarding it was going to be. May of 2013 changed my life for the better. It made me realize I had purpose in life and a passionate career to pursue.
Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.
Last year, I was struck by an epiphany about how to react to the troubles of life because of a simple cheer competition in Dallas. At the time however, it was not just a "simple competition." Placing first in the Dallas Spirit Festival was imperative to not only me, but also my team. It was so important to us we practiced for hours on end, day in and day out to ensure our routine was perfect. Going into the competition, we were all very nervous but by the end of this experience I was able to discover something I never realized before; something that would change my outlook on life forever.
This experience transformed me. When the doctors found something weird in my breast, they told me I had breast cancer. From that moment forward, my life changed and I couldn’t grasp why this was happening to me. However, with the help of my family, friends, and my faith I was able to pull through.
I would say my real, heartfelt transformation didn’t come from a single event or accomplishment, but by multiple phenomena. As I got ready to choose IB courses, finalize classes, choose a summer program and find time to revisit old friends, I noticed how far I had come from that little blonde girl, who would play pretend on her pink bike and fight the New York breeze. I noticed how different I had become; the girl that was once lost on the streets trying to make it to her last day of school was no longer there. Instead she had transformed into a woman who was making life-changing decisions all on her own. The girl who was choosing her course of action for the next two years and would therefore, decide what to do with the rest of her
Detroit, Michigan, located near the bottom of the state, is home to many different things. For example, people, sports teams, and of course the North American International Auto Show. The North American International Auto Show, once name the Detroit Auto Show, is one of the most popular events that takes place in Detroit, Michigan (NAIAS WEBSITE). The event takes place every year and brings in quite a few tourists to the city, which means lots of money comes as well. People from all over the world and country come to see the newest cars that companies have to present. A life-changing event is not something to be taken lightly. Throughout our lives, we encounter many obstacles and changes, some of which bring us joy and excitement, others of which may be hard for us to handle. When I look back on my relatively short life, it may, at first, be hard for me to think of an event that has truly molded and shaped the person that I am today. I have encountered several changes, but at the time, they felt like mere speed bumps along my path. Looking back now, it is easy for me to see that these changes were not by chance, but were placed in my path to form the person that I am today.
There are many different life changing events that can change your life. Sometimes things happen in people’s life and they can’t do anything about it. Changes can be good and sometimes it can be a terrible thing that results in a positive turn in one’s life. Change is a part of life that no one looks forward to. Everyone’s life changes at some point. Life is full of many unexpected challenges that will be thrown in your face at any place and any time. People learn and grow from every experience that they go through in life. Some of the events that have changed my life was losing my grandmother, graduation, and going to college. Changes come almost every day in my life.
Everyone has that one experience that makes them look at life with a new set of eyes. My life changing experience happened a little earlier than most. It was the summer before first grade. We had gotten an exceptional amount of rain in the past months even though it was summer. I did not notice, though, because summer was every six year old's favorite holiday, next to Christmas and their birthday. My summer was supposed to be like any other but it quickly took a turn. For the best or for the worst? That is debatable.
