As our technology and economy increases more companies and every day drivers have started converting to diesel engines. Diesels provide great mileage, the “fuel is efficient and energy dense.” (Pros and Cons) In addition, there are less tune ups and the engines are built more ruggedly to withstand the higher compression. With the increase of diesel engines this opens up more job opportunities with the need of more workers. For one to meet the requirements to become a diesel mechanic they need to have formal training, adapt to the work environment, meet the skills and traits and understand the outlook and are accepting to the pay. First, most companies only accept workers with a high school diploma and a diesel technology degree. Colleges help students further their education field by offering hands on learning. Most work takes place in noisy and dirty shop. Some have to work on their trucks on the side of the road. That increases the risk of accidents due to bad drivers that pass by. Becoming a diesel mechanic comes with the highest rate of injuries and illness. Working with the tools or even a faulty truck it can cause an unexpected injury. Next, some skills that you need are things like knowing how to use basic power tools, understanding an engine and being able to work in tight spaces. With these basic skills it will make being a diesel technician a lot easier. It also comes with having traits such as being passionate, hard working, patient. Being passionate makes it less of a job and more of a hobbie. If you’re hard working it shows that other workers can rely on you and you want to keep your job. And last being patient helps a lot because not everything goes smoothly and it makes it harder when you are
