Differences In The Outsiders Movie And Novel

The book and the movie of the Outsiders are two very different stories. The book has so much more detail then the movie. The movie is not the most detailed but it does get its point across. There are may similarities and also many differences between the two the book is by far more interesting and more detailed then the movie. I enjoyed the book a lot and the movies a lot but the movie was missing a lot.

On April 24, 1967, S.E. Hinton published the book The Outsiders. Then sixteen years later director Francis Ford Coppola’s movie version of The Outsiders was released on March 23, 1983. The book is about a young boy named Ponyboy who lives with his two older brothers because his parents were killed in a automobile accident. Ponyboy goes through a lot of tough times because he is a part of this group known as the Greasers. The Greasers are a group that are known for being from the poor side of town and the Socs are the rich kids on the other side of town. Throughout the entire book the two groups kept fighting and then something terrible happened that changed Ponyboy’s life forever. The movie and book have many differences

A comparison between both mediums for The Outsiders can be made by showing both of their advantages and disadvantages to show that one of them is better than the other.

In english are class read a book called The Outsiders, then we watched the movie and did wrote about what was different, these are a couple of the differences i found out. Darry Ponyboy's brother in the book and movie seems a whole lot meaner to Pony in the book. Early in the book Ponyboy gives descriptions about all of his friends and his two brothers, but in the movie their hairstyles are different. In the book and movie Ponyboy and his two friend Two Bit and Johnny go to a movie and in the book they were in an inside theater but the movie shows they were outside. Ponyboy had also said in the book there was no one there besides them and two other girls but there were a couple others there too. Johnny Ponyboy's friend is shorter than him in the movie but in the book Pony said he was the shortest.

The book and the film were both simular, and yet different in many ways. An example would be, in the film, Ponyboy was walking to the drive-in and meeting Cherri and Marcia. Although in the book, Ponyboy began his journey by telling the readers about his experience about being jumped by the Socs and being threatened. The director probably had some options to pick from to leave out from the movie, and the director chosed this to leave out. Leaving out the part where Ponyboy was jumped was an effective move because without the experience Ponyboy was lost and helpless because he did not know what to do when he and Johnny got cornered in the park by Bob and other Socs.

The novel of The Outsiders is better than the movie. The novel gives more vivid details than the movie does. Even though the movie shows actual image, the novel lets you have your own image of what’s going on. The movie did not show the part where Ponyboy was getting jump. That is where most of the conflicts started. It also didn’t show the part where they were at the court, which is a really important part in The Outsiders. The feeling and tension are more intense in the novel than it is in the movie. Over all, the movie is not better than the novel.

In El Dorado California, once called Mud Springs, lived two twin sisters Elisa and Elizabeth. These 11 year olds lived with their grandmother Myra whom took care of them since they were 4 years of age after their parents passed away in a tragic car accident. They lived humbly in a small log cabin. Elisa and Elizabeth’s favorite pass time was to play in the forest; they loved acting and playing as magicians attempting to do magic tricks.

Both novels contrast in the area of adult involvement. In “The Outsiders”, there is little to no parental involvement, adults are either dead or completely negligent of their children. The young boys

“The Outsiders” is by far one of my favorite books of all time. I think it’s a great story that tells about how a fourteen-year-old boy overcomes many challenges and learns how to get through each of them individually. “The Outsiders” is a story about a boy named Ponyboy that lives with his two older brothers, and they have a group of friends, called the Greasers. One day Pony gets upset with his older brother, Darry, and goes to a park with his friend Johnny to calm down. At the park, a group of kids, called Socs, come and start drowning Pony. Johnny gets scared and doesn’t know what to do so he kills one of the Socs. Soon after, Pony and Johnny decide to run away so they wouldn’t have to deal with

The Outsiders is a movie and a book written by S.E. Hinton. It takes place around the 1960’s with it’s main character named Ponyboy Curtis and his adventure with Johnny when he kills Bob. The two then go out of the city when they realized the police will be after them and hid in a church at the top of a hill in the country. Johnny decides later on to come back home, but a fire happens in the church with children inside. Both Johnny and Ponyboy go inside to save them, but Johnny is hurt badly while Ponyboy gets knocked out by Dally because of a fire that was on him. They were both taken to the hospital, but Johnny was the one who actually stayed. Later on, Johnny dies with Dally and Ponyboy with him. Dally goes crazy and soon kills himself by a cop and Ponyboy then writes a story of what happen which apparently is the book/movie. Though the book and the movie come from the same idea, they are both still very different.

The movie “the Outsiders” is very different from the book, written by S. E. Hinton. The very first scene in the movie shows Ponyboy writing in his journal the very first words in the book, “When I stepped out into the bright sunlight…” (The Outsiders). The book does not show or say in the beginning of the book that Pony was writing in his journal. Almost right after that scene it barely shows a slight argument/fight between greasers and socs. The book tells us that the fight was more serious and Ponyboy got hurt pretty bad, when in the movie all Pony gets is a little scar. After Johnny gets hurt when the old church catches on fire he ends up dying. Dally, another greaser that is part of the main group of friends, ends up shoplifting because he really cared about Johnny. Dally was eventually shot and killed by the police. The scene in the movie where Dally is in the store, thinking about shoplifting, is not in the book. “He’s just robbed a grocery store and the cops are after him.” (Hinton 153). The whole scene of Dally in the store is not in the book. Although there are many differences between the movie and the book, “the Outsiders”, there are also many similarities.

The Outsiders is a book that has been read by many people. Most of the people have enjoyed the book, but not the movie or vise versa. The Outsiders was very good and had a great story behind it. The reasons why the book is better than the movie are the book gives more detail, people can let their imagination go wild, and the movie leaves out key elements that the book has.

The movie and novel both share similar qaulities in many way”s .The “Outsiders”movie and novel are both gruesome and sad .After finishing both movie and book they are actually somewhat similar .
