A comparison between both mediums for The Outsiders can be made by showing both of their advantages and disadvantages to show that one of them is better than the other. The novel has more detail than the movie because in the novel it showed more of the characters backstories it doesnt talk about Ponyboy’s school or about Dally’s past life was like before he moved and how Johnny got beat up by the Soc while the movie skipped all of that. Another is that in the novel you can hear the character’s thoughts you could hear what Ponyboy was thinking throughout the whole story and because the novel was in first person and the movie was in third person so you couldn't really hear what the character was thinking in the movie. There was also important scenes that weren't in the movie but in the novel somewhere near the ending Sodapop runs out of the house and his brothers ran after him that was one important scene that the movie didn't show, it just skip that and went straight to the end. Then the part where Johnny’s mom came to see him at the hospital it didn’t show that in the movie only shown when the nurse told Johnny that his mom wanted to see him but didn't actually show his mom. The movie did add some scenes that weren't shown in the movie it showed Dally going into the store after Johnny’s death and robbing it and running …show more content…

The backstory wasn’t shown in the movie but it was in the novel and the backstory can tell us how some of the characters changed or tell us more about their past selves. The novel also gave us more features of the characters even though in the movie we can see how the characters look its not the way most people thought they would look and the movie changed somethings Sodapop’s hair was black in the movie but in the novel it said he had blonde
