Leadership for Differentiating Schools & Classroom by Carol Ann Tomlinson and Susan Demirsky Allan outlines key components in the book about differentiating classroom instruction. The reasons for differentiating are beneficial to educators and students within the school environment. Everyone has unique styles and learning abilities; just like fingerprints. Some educators may teach using a cookie cutter approach, similar to one size fit all, but this may not work for many. Tomlinson and Allan describe creative ways to these approaches throughout the book. A personal evaluation of the Tomlinson and Allan assumption inferred how differentiating benefits a wide range from those with learning difficulties to high ability gifted students. Differentiating is also using a variety of instructional tools, strategies and creating lessons plans for varying levels. This approach will help respond to the challenges within educational environments to address every student needs. The real challenge of contemporary educational design is to maintain a sense of balance among a multiplicity of desirable goals. Students working with other students can draw upon strengths from each other. For example, kinesthetic learning can interact with each other by using puzzles, blocks and manipulatives to solve math problems. They may also like a lot of movement but distracts auditory learners as they listen to instructions. Placing students in a small group setting with similar learning styles will prevent frustrations among students and create a more comfortable learning
