In traditional chinese medicine, ancient Chinese doctors were the ones that first introduced the concept of a meridian system, a system of distribution networks all over our body to transport blood and Qi, as well as connect tissues, internal organs and reflect the pathological changes of these internal organs. Hence, the meridian system can also be linked to other traditional Chinese medicine concepts such as Qi, the fundamental substance that serves as vital energy necessary for maintaining our life and health and also the concept of Yin and Yang. The distribution network or pathways can be pictured as a giant web in our body that link different areas together, supplying Qi to the parts that require it.
