In traditional chinese medicine, ancient Chinese doctors were the ones that first introduced the concept of a meridian system, a system of distribution networks all over our body to transport blood and Qi, as well as connect tissues, internal organs and reflect the pathological changes of these internal organs. Hence, the meridian system can also be linked to other traditional Chinese medicine concepts such as Qi, the fundamental substance that serves as vital energy necessary for maintaining our life and health and also the concept of Yin and Yang. The distribution network or pathways can be pictured as a giant web in our body that link different areas together, supplying Qi to the parts that require it.

Acupuncture is evidence based, so there are many cases where it has succeeded, adding to its credibility, along with its long history in China and traditional Chinese medicine. Furthermore, it is relatively easy to carry out and very accessible in Asian countries. With more and more patients willing to try this alternative form of therapy, more and more Chinese medicine clinics are popping up around the world that include acupuncture as a viable form of treatment.
