During the late 19th and all of the 20th century many events took place affecting the current situation our world is facing today.  The broad term, industrialization, refers to the development of goods produced by machinery and the discovery of new energy resources.  Industrialization had many positive and negative effects on the citizens of the world during these two centuries.  The events under industrialization could be said to have fallen victim to the “snowball effect” and been a cause of the situation that our world is facing today.

Industrialization was a time period where the United States experienced prosperity and many advancements in technology. Nevertheless, while many beneficial events came from this time period, there were also numerous negative outcomes. This can be seen three decades after The Civil War, where the idea that anyone could rise upwards in society with the use of hard work, thriftiness, and a bit of luck, became widespread among American citizens. However, this idea was only proven correct in individual cases, as the majority of the working class remained in the same financial position despite their strong work ethic.

Today, many businesses and organizations collaborate with the labor unions whether by choice or not. As generally understood the labor unions are organizations of workers acting jointly to negotiate their wages, working environment, and benefits with there employers. Like many nations globally, in the U.S. the subordinate employees are legally allowed to establish unions and engage in collective bargains with the management. Following the collective bargains there is always the establishment of the labor contract, which is a written agreement that governs the union-management relations (Workplace Fairness Organization, 2017). Though the labor relations are a common thing today and offer many benefits to the members, many people are still reluctant to join their respective labor unions.

The industrial revolution was without a doubt one of humanities greatest achievements, with the rise of machine labor humans could now produce far greater quantities of goods in less time than ever before, however, industrialization also had countless adverse effects on the lives of many working-class citizens which are often never discussed. Therefore, the goal of this essay will be to shed some light on the negative effect of industrialization, and examine labor reform movements that came to be as a result of the inhumane treatment that most workers experienced at this time.

Imagine having benefits such as social protection and higher wages at your job for nothing in return. This was the basic idea behind labor unions. Labor Unions are formed to further and protect workers rights and interests. Unions have played a large role in the history of the United States, epically during independence. Many companies and organizations argue that labor unions are a good thing and provide higher wages and prosperity to the middle class. However, as labor unions can provide some good for their members, in the long run they harm businesses and the overall economy.

Additionally, there are also cons to labor unions as well. The cons can consist of labor unions being monopolized and can be run by cartels. They can also be exempted from taxes, which other companies believe is wrong because everyone should pay taxes to the government. I believe this is certainly an issue. No one should be exempt from taxes. Taxes are mandatory for everyone no matter what their job is. Competitors will be affected by this action as well because, while they are paying taxes, the company that does not pay taxes does not have to deal with that roadblock. Taxation should definitely not be exempt for union labors. These labor unions can also be costly not only for the employers, but to the employees as well. According to the textbook,
