Eminems song beautiful explains or shows a way on what it'd be like someone else's shoes. You never know what someone else is going through just like remember the titans. The main social issue of the movie is racism and discrimination. Remember the titans is a movie that was made in 1971. Remember the Titans is directed by Boaz Yakin and stars Denzel Washington as Coach Herman Boone, Will Patton as Bill Yoast, Ryan Hurst as Gerry Bertier, and Wood Harris as Julius Campbell. The movie takes place in 1971, at T.C Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia. The high school had recently integrated, where both Americans and African Americans conjoin to the same school. The main social issue in the movie was racism, because the Americans didn’t want to be a part of the same school as the African Americans, but they play on the same football team. They also didn’t want to be coached by Herman Boone, because he was a different race from them and Coach Yoast coached most of the white players. Remember the Titans teaches us we can put our differences aside and work together as a team to achieve a goal.
Remember the Titans is a deeply impactful and motivation movie. Set during the 1970s when segregation and integration were hot topics, the film largely focuses on prejudice. One of the most impactful scenes from the movie when Gerry Bertier is laying in his hospital bed right after his life-altering car accident and the only person he wants to see is his newfound best friend Julius Campbell . At the beginning of the movie, both boys are very unwilling to get to know each other even the slightest bit considering the stressful time they were going through with a newly integrated school and team (Remember the Titans, 2001). They stereotyped the opposite race, or made generalizations about the characteristics of the other group (King, 2010, p. 402).
Remember The Titans was a movie that was set in a very hostile time in our country. We were in the middle of what I like to call a civil war. Although there were no battles or gunfights our country was torn in half. There was an issue dealing with race in the United States. The movie, Remember the Titans is based on actual events that occurred in the year 1971. Mainly on the integration of a school called TC Williams High School. When the school was integrated the old football coach, Coach Yoast, was let go and a black coach Herman Boone was hired on. The main plot of this movie is regarding the coaching change in the school and the 1971 football season the TC Williams Titans have.
In the movie Remember the Titans, the plot shows clear examples of race and ethnicity discrimination and Sexual orientation discrimination. One of the first scenes that show the issue of race and ethnicity discrimination is when the coach (Coach Boon) house is being vandalized by the “white players” when they throw rocks at his house. It is evident that the players don’t want the Coach or his Family in the neighborhood due to the colour of their skin. Another example is When Julius walks into the room and is completely ignored by a group of White girls when he says Hi to them, the nature of the movie suggests that if Julius has been of Lighter Skin, the girls would have reacted differently to him by saying Hi back. An example of Sexual Orientation discrimination in the movie is when they refer to a male player as Sunshine as he is homosexual, it is even more evident in the scene where the group of football players are uncomfortable around the character Ronnie as he is homosexual. The behaviours shown in the movie are learnt behaviours, the discrimination shown in the movie shows that white characters are acting on their judgment against the black characters with no substance behind their behaviours, and no real reason for them to be acting that way. It is clear that Discrimination is a
Remember the Titans is a fantastic representation of the true story of how Coach Boone’s and Coach Yoast’s team had reached the top. It is very accurate to the history as well. It also represents racism and stereotypes very well as it shows your race doesn’t matter. First of all the movie makes me feel as I am sharing my feeling with the characters in the movie. Secondly it focuses strongly and mainly on racism and stereotypes comparatively to Hairspray. Lastly it is more enjoyable to watch as a movie.
This movie including a major movie star, Denzel Washington, playing the role of Coach Boone. The film took place in a time where whites and african americans were separated until two schools integrate and create one school called T.C Williams. The main social issue in the film is racism and discrimination. Remember the Titans teaches viewers the importance about overcoming adversity.
Remember The Titans is a great football movie, and an even better civil rights movie. The movie shows how TC Williams handled desegregation and how the football team brought the community together. When the white players and black players came together for the first time, they did not get along. Coach Herman Boone took the team to a camp, and the players started to get along. When the players went back to school, they experienced the racism all over again. Eventually, the team helped the school and community get over the desegregation.
In today's age can you imagine getting sent away with the rest of society's garbage to rot away in an asylum just for not being the same as everybody else? This is nearly impossible to think about although their is still hatred and discrimination in the United States we have improved drastically compared to the 1950’s idea of ‘Normal.” The people who did not fit in were the people seen as different in any form compared to a white male. Women were were expected to stay at home and cook for their families while the men provided for them and their children. People were seen as lesser just because of their skin color. The people who went against these normal conventions were the outsiders and either sent away to institutions for being seen as ill

What makes this movie classic is how the players and coaches were able to overcome the issue of segregation and build relationships to form a championship team.

An overwhelming majority of us have had some type of exposure to the 20th Century history of the United States. Therefore, a majority of Americans are aware of the racial divide and civil rights movement that took place during this time period. More specifically, this time period running from the 1960’s to 1970’s was one of vast racial tension and overall instability in numerous areas across the country. African Americans were able to finally overcome centuries of segregation and inequality by the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. However, as stated before anyone with knowledge of American history would know that the state of the nation following this decision was not one of tranquility and peace. Protests from both sides of the argument sprouted up in major cities all across this land of so called opportunity. Peaceful is best not used to describe the American people during these times. The ever so popular film Remember the Titans released in 2000, turns the clock back to 1971 to follow the true story of the recently integrated football team at T.C. Williams High school of Alexander, Virginia. In this film, the audience catches a first hand
Most people don’t realize that the media play up the stereotypes and gender roles that are out there. We don’t realize that the movies and television shows we watch feed into the stereotypes and gender roles that we believe in. Remember the Titans, directed by Boaz Yakin, tells the story about a high school football coach, Herman Boone, attempting to integrate T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria in 1971. Boone coming to T.C. Williams High School really upset many parents and students. When the parents of the football players found out he was going to be helping the head coach, Bill Yoast, many were fuming with anger. Why? Because he is African-American. Parents did not want their children playing African-American children in sports or sitting next to them in classrooms. This movie is based on a true story and the film challenges everything we claim we know about discrimination and racism in school.
Remember the Titans (2000) is based on the true story of the Alexandra, Virginia, football team in 1971. The movie shows the desegregation of the schools in Alexandra and specifically follows the story of their football team. The town was on edge when forced to open their schools up to other races and ethnicities besides Whites. To make matters worse, the football team was forced to replace their white, head football coach, whom was about to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, with an African American coach. Just forcing diverse people, who hold prejudice views against each other, to be together was not resolving the problem of prejudice. However, through a series of events that will later be explained by social psychology, the team and the town learn to get along and win the state championship.
