Ancient Egyptians believed that the reason why people got sick with diseases was due to the doings of evil spirits that were habiting inside their bodies. They believed these spirits sent poisons inside their bodies when a person has done something bad in society thus making a person sick. Many individuals ponder how remarkable it is that humans have lasted this long in a world full of war and through chaotic times. One element that has helped humanity is the use of medicine and healthcare systems. Medicine and healing have been around for many centuries, and has made countless advances in the system and cures to diseases within many civilizations. Instead of discussing the change of medicine over all time and around the world, we will narrow the ways in which a civilization heals their sick into a smaller time period and this period was the era of the Ancient and Medieval Worlds. Egyptians were considered some of the best doctors in ancient times, starting from the Stone Age and onward. Written documents and cave carvings found from this time period suggests that they were highly advanced for their time, particularly in the impressive knowledge of human anatomy. For example, the Edwin Smith papyrus lay out a myriad of surgical treatments for a certain type of injury, giving many historians insight on how Egyptians operated in the field. (Lawrence 444) The Edwin Smith papyrus was divided into sections: title, examination, diagnosis, and treatment, a clear sign of the vast amounts of understanding in medicine. Though the views of diseases and their cures were seen mostly in supernatural terms both the ancient Egyptians and Hebrews were also practical in terms of treatment and prevention is the question we would like to answer.
The plagues were disasters showed upon the Egyptian by God to convince Pharaoh to free the Israelite slaves from the slavery and oppression they had undergone in Egypt for 400 years. When God sent Moses to deliver the children of Israel from slavery in Egypt, He promised to show His wonders as approval of Moses’ power (Exodus 3:20). Nevertheless, this approval of God was to serve at least two purposes: to show the Israelites that the God of their fathers was alive and worthy of their worship and to show the Egyptians that their gods were nothing. The plague of God was enough in releasing his people because pharaoh heart was hardened, and did not obey God’s commands to let the Israelites go. Moreover, he his promise his children the “promise

Medicine is constantly improving and being innovated, making the treatment of various diseases and ailments easier and easier. However, in the early millennia, the rate at which medicine was being improved and innovated was not as rapid as it is today. Blood tests, x-rays, and biopsy tests are a few of the ways we use to diagnose ailments today. Chemotherapy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and needles are tools we use to cure ailments. Hospitals, clinics, and ambulances are medical resources that are consistently prepared for people with illnesses and injuries. Even though they lacked the technology of today, the ancient Greeks still had their own way to prevent, diagnose, and heal conditions. Ancient greeks relied on rational medicine and religious ritual to assist them in healing processes.
