Sixty years ago, things were much simpler than today. Accurately predicting 2015 in 1953, over half a century ago, would be incredibly difficult-- I can’t even imagine how things will be ten years from now! However, Bradbury has a clear vision of how the future will be, and his accuracy may surprise some. Amazingly, many of Bradbury’s predictions in Fahrenheit 451 have come true (or close to true). His vision of the future is very similar to today’s society.
Divergent is a dystopian novel that takes place in a futuristic Chicago. The setting also looks like a perfect Utopia, but as you go on reading you find out that it has a lot of problems. In the novel there was a war that was caused by differences in people's ideologies. The war caused Chicago to be divided into five factions. Each faction has a virtue which they value and cultivate. The five factions are Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, and Erudite. The Abnegation faction values selflessness, the Amity peace, the Candor honesty, the Dauntless bravery, and the Erudite intelligence. Throughout the novel the main character is Tris which was born in Abnegation and chose to go to the Dauntless faction. Chicago in the novel is governed by a group of people from

Divergent by Veronica Roth is a story about Beatrice (Tris) Prior who lives in a world where she faces the challenge of being an outsider in a society that is
Is there an IDEA you would be willing to die for? Freedom, What is freedom? How do you get freedom? First let me describe to you what I think freedom. Freedom to me is something that in America is slowly being taken away but the definition to me is the right or will to do anything, but to the extent of another person right or will.
I think that the whole concept of the Games is a way to make us think about appearances and reality. The event is televised for the whole world to see, but the Capitol is able to control what the population is able to see, they only show the 'entertaining' parts of the horrible game that they are putting innocent teenagers through. During the parade, the tributes are expected to show off beautiful outfits to appeal to the sponsors, that don't even know what the tributes are able to do. The costumes are supposed to trump the actual abilities, up to a certain point of course. The Capitol has been trying to make the Hunger Games look like a fun televised game show, but they really can destroy and scar the winners for life, and all the other 23 (or 22) tributes die in the arena. The Hunger Games are based on violence and murder. The kids are literally thrown into an arena to kill each other, but the Capitol manipulates this and shows the population another
The second book I am reading is Divergent by Veronica Roth and I am on page 115. This book is about a young woman named Tris, who has to face the decision of her lifetime. This decision will be choosing her faction, which could involve leaving the faction she currently is in. In
J. D. Salinger’s only published full-length novel, The Catcher in the Rye, has become one of the most enduring classics of American literature. The novel’s story is told in retrospect by the main character, Holden Caulfield, while staying in a psychiatric hospital in California. This is a coming of age tale that is wrought with irony. Holden Caulfield, Mr. Antolini, and Phoebe are the main symbols of irony.
The main character in the book Divergent is a girl named Beatrice. Beatrice is developed throughout the book by having to do things that push her out of her comfort zone. Beatrice was born in the faction of Abnegation, where everything is simple and alike. Abnegation values selflessness, but Beatrice doesn’t feel like she is selfless. She decides to change to the faction of Dauntless, who values courage. Beatrice has to do things like jump off trains, and fight people to show she is courageous. She decides to start going byTris, because Beatrice won’t fit in with the dauntless. When Beatrice makes the decision to be a dauntless she says “My fathers eyes burn into mine with a look of accusation’. This is because it was selfish of
Divergent, by author Veronica Roth, is noted on the New York Bestseller list. It is the first book in the trilogy series of novels for young adults that further expands the look and feel of the dystopian genre in young adult fiction. It has a feeling similar in comparison to the book Hunger Games and The Maze Runner yet it has many differences. Divergent looks more into the personality of its characters from the inside and the resulting struggles they deal with when figuring out their identities and futures to a completely different level.
This is no exception in the book Divergent. The society in Divergent split into five distinct factions known as Candor, Abnegation, Dauntless, Amity, and Erudite. From this information, one can infer the worldview depicted in this novel is that one choice defines who a person is forever. This worldview is seen all throughout the book, due to the author’s focus on choice. The characters are forced to choose which faction they wish to reside in, thus possibly leaving all that they previously had known and grown accustomed to. This reality is brutally true for Beatrice Prior as she is forced to come to grips with making this type of decision. Upon making her ultimate decision to join Dauntless she states, “This is what I chose. This is it.” Numerous other decisions are put in front of Beatrice Prior throughout the plot, therefore proving the worldview in Divergent to be rooted in decisions and choices. These choices, in turn, have a long-term effect on someone’s life. The worldview in any novel is brought to life by the author. Taking a look at the author of Divergent, known as Veronica Roth, one immediately comes to the conclusion that she is a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. She freely professes her faith and love for the Lord; therefore, one can see the intricate parallels from Divergent to the Scriptures. For example, the concept of one choice defining the rest of a person’s life or destiny is similar to the monumental choice made in the Garden of Eden, which
Have you ever wondered how life would be like if society was divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue ? What if you were different and did not belong in any of the given factions? Then you are a lot like Tris. Tris Prior is the main character in the dystopian novel Divergent, by Veronica Roth. She lives in a world where she must hide her true uniqueness as a Divergent individual, otherwise she puts her life at risk. Tris's aptitude test result was inconclusive, she has the ability to manipulate simulations and throughout the book she shows characteristics from different factions which concludes that she is Divergent. Divergence is to be special in the sense that you
There are many great leaders in the world today, though many don’t know what it is that makes them great leaders. In the novel Divergent, by Veronica Roth, leadership is not just shown through the main protagonist, but also through the other characters. Four is a character in the book that possesses great leadership skills. He’s dependable and provides good advice, especially to Tris who gets in a lot of troublesome situations. The qualities that make a successful leader are keeping a level head, and being ready to protect other individuals around you no matter what it may cost you.
To start off, one of the conflicts would be that she feels guilty for leaving her family for the Dauntless faction, where she believes she belongs. In the text, Beatrice admitted that when she pictured her parents, she knew she’d never be their daughter again. In addition to this, another conflict would be that Beatrice is stuck between two factions, and this causes an identity struggle within her. She questions who she really is and if she ended up in the wrong place. On page 177 of the book, Beatrice asked herself several questions which included, “what kind of person am I?”
The factions were created with the hopes of eliminating future war and violence. It was believed that if each citizen of the society selects their faction and focuses only on their faction’s virtues or morals everyone will be equal and there will be no conflict. This novel embodies many strong and unique messages. It also inspires the readers to never back down, and to learn to control their fears not only by overcoming it but by dealing it with courage. "'Becoming fearless isn't the point. That's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it, that's the point.'"
