Divergent & Online Interaction In the modern age that connects all forms of social networking, fans of movie adapted novels like Divergent are given all new opportunities to take part in the fiction world they’ve grown to love. Through what Henry Jenkin’s calls “convergence culture,” fans of Divergent are able to insert themselves into the story by taking online quizzes, answering fan-directed questions on social media, and exploring exclusive content that allows an inside look into the movie. The young-adult crowd that Divergent is geared towards is active on every and all types of online networking, which means how accessible the website’s content is depends on its utilization of convergence media. Divergent’s official website attempts …show more content…
This type of empowerment is a way for social media to seemingly give users an exclusive, and therefore powerful, access to the product. Divergent fans are able to sort themselves, and their friends, into factions, educate themselves on the individual group, and learn the ins-and-outs associated with each of them. A Spotify playlist is included in the biography of each faction, which serves to solidify the fan’s position in the fictional world of Divergent. Users are then encouraged to tag their artwork, photography, or any type of Tumblr post with Divergent-themed words or phrases. The tag will group all posts pertaining to the movie, or a specific faction or character, together to potentially be “reblogged” and displayed on the official website as associated with the movie. The encouragement to “seek out new information and make connections among dispersed media content,” is a blatant result of the “cultural shift” that new media has undergone (Jenkins 457). This provides seemingly artificial power to the consumer, allowing for enough interaction to suggest a two-way relationship without forgoing any true control of the
Looking for the right new home to buy can be both fun and stressful. It's disheartening to find a home in a good location that you love only to find out something is wrong with it. However, it's best to find out about problems before you buy. Homeowners aren't always forthcoming with problems you should know about, however, they may be required to disclose certain things. Here are some red flags to look for when shopping for real estate that may help you avoid a home with hidden problems.
Lisa Nakamura argues in her article, “Words with Friends”: Socially Networked Reading on Goodreads, that Goodreads is a successful Web 2.0 business, worth studying by literary scholars. By applying the argument Carolyn Miller makes for a successful genre, in her text, Genre as Social Action (1984), Revisited 30 Years Later (2014), one can examine why Goodreads is successful in terms of fulfilling its requirements to its public. Miller defines genre as being “a multidimensional construct”, that is a “typified rhetorical response to” an uptake of a situation, “a ‘macro’ speech act”, “a mediation between private intentions (purpose) and socially objectified needs (exigence)”, and above all she emphasizes that genre must create social action,
On June 17, 1972, 2:30am, five men were caught trying to bug the phones and offices of Watergate Hotel and Office in Washington, D.C.. There were wire taps discovered in all of the Democrats’ offices, as well as Democrat supporters. Each man had thousands of dollars in their pockets; and ties to the re-election of President Nixon. Additionally, top secret documents were found in their possession, belonging to the government and state of Virginia.
Ring, ring, ring. This sound is ingrained in my subconscious as one of anxiety, confusion, frustration, and eventual relief. Junior year had just begun and I was busy completing my homework when the phone started to ring. I was already anticipating the ways I would spend my time after completing my written assignments and reviewing the new information learned that day in class. My father had not returned from work yet, and dinner had already come and gone. This initial idiosyncrasy, one that probably should have raised a "red flag," was glossed over as routine and ordinary. Times of tribulation and stress often expose who we truly are as individuals. They strip us of our defensive layers and reveal ourselves at the "bare bones," fundamental level. I had no idea that this telephone call (and subsequent events) would expose my true identity
My codename is TKM97, I received a warning message that stated “Due to the content on this website you have been flagged for surveillance.” I then contacted a representative was talked to someone with the codename HSAGENT1026. I want to appeal the decision to red flag me for various reasons. First I want to explain to you why I was looking up how to join Al-Qaeda. I decided to look it up because it was a curious question that I always wanted to know. I had no intention to go to the Middle East to join the terrorist organization. I do not want to perform an act of terror against the United States and I am not a safer risk when it comes to the lives of my fellow Americans. I disagree with the decision to red flag me and I want the decision to be reversed.
Approximately eighty percent of adults do not take advantage of the amazing benefits they can receive from exercising. Many of the benefits gained by working out are not achieved by exercising just one time. Whether the goal is to gain or lose weight, or increase body performance, working out reaps these incredible benefits.
Inconsistency is the act of not being consistent. In other words, not keeping the same level of pace for long periods of time. This could go with a lot of things as how much work you do, shooting percentage, sales, gpa, etc. For some people it can be hard and for others is easy to remain at a same pace for long periods of time. This paper will inform you on how to not being inconsistent .
It is not uncommon to conceive a general view of someone before the option to truly understand them comes along. i The person I conceive myself to be and the person that family and friends conceive me as acquire similarities as well as few differences. If the difference between the way I conceive myself and how other people conceive me is a positive difference or a negative difference, I am not aware. However, the utmost important quality to consider is, whether or not you accept who you are, and are content with that person.
Being out of place has always been the problem for me. I come from an immigrant background and with that I've seen a lot from both worlds and that has really made me who I am today. My parents migrated here from a young age to find work to keep their families well supported. From a young age I remember them telling me how they came here because in Mexico it was harder to get a job that pays well enough for someone to support their families or themselves. I went to Mexico with my sister for the first time when I was 16. I only got to meet my mom's parents because my dad’s mom lives with us. My dad’s father wasn't there for him and it really made him different, because he had to make his own parenting style. He didn't have much experience with a dad growing up, and I can feel it
“Jumpy and I are easily bored and always out for adventures. How about you? Do you like to sit and hope something happens; or would you rather go find an adventure yourself?’
“A woman knows the face of the man she loves as a sailor knows the open sea” In the movie Overboard, Joanna is married to a rich man who thinks marriage is not about love. When Joanna realizes that her husband does not love her, she jumps overboard and swims to Dean. The greatest movie of all time is “Overboard” because it is old, it’s funny, and a very awkward but romantic story.
Pantera’s Far Beyond Driven (1994) portrays a giant drill-bit “far beyond driven” into a dark, dark place. Pantera’s album cover was changed to an image of the drill-bit impaling a skull, which is apparently less controversial.
One of the things I am most interested in is the communities that form online and the way they are used to shape information. Fandoms, the collective fans of a particular work regarded collectively as a group, are one such community. As a fan, I want to what study what makes online fandom communities unique. Who makes up the online fandom communities and how do they use fandom. Often online fans and fandom in general are often viewed as purely based on obsessive consumption of a media. However I experience them in most cases as intensely creative, highly informed and extremely critical people. It is all of these things together that creates communities that trade and thrive on fanworks. Fanworks take some element of a cannon work, the characters,
A brilliant author by the name of Cassandra Clare once declared, “Only the very weak-mined refuse to be influenced by literature,” (GoodReads). Since the first book publication, the world around us has been undeniably and overwhelmingly impacted. Although the very nature of each influence may vary, the significance to the reading public cannot and will not be ignored. The content of my grandmother’s favorite book, Mutant Message Down Under, varies from my current favorite book, Divergent; but this does not discredit either works. As noted in Joseph R. Dominick’s book, entitled The Dynamics of Mass Communication, the content of books throughout the generations has altered—which effortlessly engenders waves of newfangled favorites.
I believe we teens are not reckless and clueless, just because we can make a few mistakes dose not mean we are clueless. We know our limits between right and wrong. From my experience your either bad because you think its cool, your think you fit in with the cool people, or your parents and other people don't care because you are careless. What if we didn't see all the bad stuff on TV or learn it at school maybe that would allow us to do only good things instead of bad things. And by the way we do think about the consciences of our actions.
