Do you really want to wait until your 18 to get your driver’s license? There are some people that think you should wait until your 18 to drive, while on the other hand there are people who think the opposite of that. If the driving age was increased teenagers would not have transportation to their jobs. Parents would have to take their children to their jobs, when it should be the teenager’s responsibility to drive themselves to their jobs. Having the driving age increased would mean less responsibility put onto the shoulders of teens. They would have to grow up slower, and learn to become mature at a older age. By learning to drive at 16, it teaches you the responsibility of being a good driver. Even if the driving age was increased …show more content…
So for the fact they need their license, and a car that they can drive. If the state you live in allows teens to drive at sixteen why not let them have that responsibility. Having the driving age stay the same means that teens would have to mature faster. They would have to grow up and learn to be in control of what they are doing while driving. Teenagers would have to grow up faster and learn to be a good driver. Knowing that anything can happen at any time and that they have to be aware of everything around them at all times. Not increasing the driving age would also mean that teenagers would get more experience before hitting adulthood. They would have the chance of learning to drive two extra years before becoming a legal adult. Not having that two extra years could affect the way our roads would be in the future. There could be more accidents if they did raise the driving age for the fact that when you become an adult you most likely move away, and won’t have your parents there to teach you how to drive. When your eighteen you not only will move away and not have your parents as close to you as they were before. Either you have to go back to learn to drive from your parents or you learn on your own. Whichever way you choose will be more difficult than just getting your license at the age of
For many teenagers in the United States their 16th birthday is an important milestone. This is the age that teenagers begin to integrate more into society as they begin to drive and experience new levels of freedom. As 16 is the usual minimum age for employment in most industries some teens even get jobs for personal reason or to benefit their household. The minimum age to acquire a driver's licence should not increase to 18 as younger teens will not be able to help provide for their families with current public transportation methods in the United States.
Young drivers should have to wait until they are 18 years old to get their license because 16 year olds are more likely to get in an accident than an older driver. One author said, “Sixteen-year-old drivers are the most likely to crash, so raising the age at which teens could get their license would save many lives…” (Rubin). Rubin gives a valid reason to why the minimum driving age should be raised from 16 to 18. If the driving age is raised, there would be less people involved in wrecks, which would help the world out as a whole. Even though 16 year olds are more accident prone than other drivers, taking 16 year olds off of the road would save the lives of everyone on the road. However, there are people who believe that the minimum driving age should not be raised because of various reasons. One article states that, “If they have to wait until they are 17 or 18, they remain dependent on parents practically until they are ready to go off to college, join the military or take a
Freedom. Allowing teens to drive at the age of 17 not only gives the teen freedom, but also their parents. This
There are about 2,000,000 sixteen year old drivers in United States, meaning that almost 2,000,000 million people depend on the current driving age for many things. Having a license at age 16 gives that person opportunities they wouldn’t be able to have without the freedom a car gives, such as getting a job that could help their family, driving themselves to school or sports practice if their parents can’t or being able to see their friends when they want. Having your license at 16 also gives teens a taste of independence and responsibility. The driving age has to stay at sixteen because teens and families depend on it for many things and it introduces a sense of responsibility for the teen.
Raising the age to eighteen doesn’t provide them more information to drive. It just takes them longer to be able to travel by themselves. Also eighteen is closer to being able to do drugs and they have an excuse to do drugs. Which is not ok. Also if you raise the age, what happens to the people at age sixteen who have a car already? They just have to take
The driving age should stay at 16 because it gives teens freedom. It gives teens freedom because if they don't want to be around there parents they can just leave and go hang out with there friends. If the
Because of safety concerns, many states have increased the age at which teens can begin to drive. The Virginia state legislature is considering raising the minimum driving age from 16 to 18. If the state raises the age to drive, kids would start depending on their parents to take them places. The parents would be chauffeuring their kids to places like school, work, and so on. I think raising the age to drive is a bad idea because the kids don't have to depend on the parents as much, it can teach the kids responsibility and freedom, and it can allow the kids to get jobs without their parents.
I understand that individuals want the driving age to be raised. Sixteen-year-olds can be very irresponsible and immature. There are also the safety concerns that can happen, for example, car crashes. However, I believe that the age requirement to drive should stay the same. Teens get the freedom they have been wanting. Teens are able to get jobs to help save up for college. Teens can also learn the responsibilities that come with driving or owning a vehicle. Therefore, what I am trying to say is sixteen-year-olds are responsible enough to
Teens should should be eligible to drive when they received a work permit or have proven to parents that they are trustworthy and enough to take on the responsibility of driving. Taking away the driving privilege away from teens will also take away the chance for them to experience the responsibilities of growing up. Allowing a 16 year old and up can also be seen as a way for teens to take on responsibilities as and adults because driving is already a privilege so being a teen will make the fact that driving is a privilege paramount and it will help them to be more mature to keep the privilege.
Much is asked of teenagers and they are immensely busy. Teenagers have jobs, extra cirricular activities, church meetings, homework, school responsibilities and family responsibilities. And on top of it all, they have social lives to maintain. While raising the age for legal drivers has good intentions, it is nearly impossible due to all that is asked of from teens. In the article, "Should 16-year-olds-drive?"
To me if you below that age you still young minded and tend to do more mistakes than the usual. Don't get me wrong I know its some mature fifteen year olds out there but I just think the age sixteen to eighteen is more realistic and a good idea to do and should think about doing this as soon as possible! Second, I think the crime would go down also. To many crimes been happening just off driving, and it be the teenagers most of the time. A lot oh hit and runs because the person who cause the accident don't have license or not an experience driver or young minded. So the state should think about that if they decide to raise the age to sixteen to eighteen. It's better to be on the safe side so i think it's best for us all. Third, some teenagers below sixteen likes to show off a lot. They like to talk on the phone when there driving and likes to post videos of them driving to show their friends and others. The little things like that can cause many accidents and injuries that young teenagers don't even think about until after it happen. When they think about it after its to late then, accidents done occur and injuries already happen. A life is more important than you putting
The current driving age of sixteen is implemented in almost every state in the United States. Most states have become accustomed to the current driving age, but recently there are certain states that believe that the legal driving age should be raised due to various reasons. The main argument for most states is that sixteen-year old’s are not mature enough and lack the preparation to handle the responsibility to drive safely. Teenagers under the age of eighteen should be required to wait longer to get their license and should be more prepared before getting their license.
There are some sixteen year olds that go to high school and need a job on the side to help out with their families. Their family may not make a lot of money and they need their kid to get a job so they can live. Without being able to drive it would be very difficult for a student to get to where they work. There is the option of walking, but areas where people work are often too far to walk. There is also the option of riding a bus but in most smaller cities there aren’t very many buses people can take. Being able to have a job at sixteen allows teenagers to save money for college before they go when they are eighteen. If the legal driving age was moved up to eighteen years old it wouldn’t allow students to save up money for those two years, and it may not even be possible for some
Historically the driving age was sixteen so that teenagers could assist with family farms. In modern society it is no longer necessary for most teenagers to work in family operations, interestingly over the last 40 years motor vehicles have become increasingly recreational. 16 year olds have no need for private transportation and raising the driving age could help prevent teen
Many states have increased the age at which teens can begins to drive. In our society teens wait for their license. In our society parents worry about their children on the road. Age limit should remain the same because one needs to get to their job, one need to get to school, and one is responsible taking care of their own.
