On the morning of 22 March 2016, three coordinated nail bombings occurred in Belgium: two at Brussels Airport in Zaventem, and one at Maalbeek metro station in Brussels. In these attacks, 32 victims and three suicide bombers were killed, and over 300 people were injured. Another bomb was found during a search of the airport. Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the attacks.[1]

On an Airport the locations where the most vulnerability to terrorism or other acts with the intent to cause damage are those where an aircraft is loaded with cargo and other provisions such as passenger baggage or catering services. For this reason these areas are designated as Secure Identification Display Areas which also encompass the Secure and Air Operations Areas, for the purposes of this paper the term SIDA will be used to describe all three areas where badge identification is required regardless of its actual security level. Unauthorized access to these areas in theory is very difficult as it is required for a person to work in the area to have been granted an unescorted access badge and not only be in possession of an access badge but have it displayed in an easily visible area above the wearer’s waist. The process to achieving unescorted access further lends credibility to the difficulty of access due to the requirements under federal regulations that a badge may only be issued to a person who has successfully undergone a thorough criminal history check as well as proper training and has a job need that requires unescorted access (TSA, 2012). This however is only for people with unescorted access. There are some cases where individuals are allowed access to the SIDA without a badge due to short term work that requires access to the area but does not warrant the allotment of unescorted access. These individuals are instead granted escorted access which
Currency: This article was published in 2010 and is therefore, fairly up to date. I understand it was written almost six years ago, so newer information may be out there. Until I find something providing information on the facial screening program used in the airport, I will stick to this one. Unfortunately, since I am not a subscriber to the site this originated from, I will have to search the open web to see if I can find any other articles similar to this source.
The British police have arrested five people on suspicion of being linked to the attacks in Paris and Brussels. On Thursday, three men and a woman were detained in Birmingham, central England. Also, on Friday, another man was held at London’s Gatwick Airport. Chief Const. Marcus Beale said that there was no information that suggested that an attack in Britain was being planned. A security source had confirmed that these five people arrests were linked to last month’s suicide bombings in Brussels, which resulted in thirty two people dead and November’s Paris attacks which left 130 people dead. The four men that were arrested are aged 40, 59, and two are aged 26. The woman is 29-years-old. They are all being questioned by counter-terrorism
Investigators believe the Paris attacks were planned in Belgium, suicide bombers trained in Syria and became terrorist’ in liaison with ISIS. “The Paris and Brussels plotters appear to have shared a bomb maker, Najim Laachraoui, 24, a Belgian of Moroccan descent, who is widely reported as having been one of the suicide bombers at the Brussels Airport.” (Rubin, 2016). This compounds the fear factor from the Paris attacks, that the suicide bombers were part of a wider trend of fighters from Syria and Iraq. The people of Brussel were also caught by surprise, much like the incident with the Oklahoma City bombing. The network was composed of people who knew each other for

There were three suicide bombings outside the Stade De France in Saint-Denis, along with another suicide bombing and mass shootings at four locations in Paris. Brussels, Belgium is still on high alert following the Paris attacks on November 13. These attacks killed 130 people in total. Brussels is still under partial lockdown because of terrorist threats made against them. Throughout our generations, security in airports has gotten much more strict. Airport security was often unable to detect threats such as cutting devices, guns, bombs, and airborne pathogens located on passengers and in luggage.(5) Items such as these were overlooked due to the
Security has dependably been a dream. However, post 9/11 and six years later, airport security has a lot of work ahead. As the Americans stir from a long snooze in the arms of deceitful security, it is very positive that the American dream has been the reason for different countries’ bad dreams. In a solitary day, a fragment of a group of the religion of a country whom we, yes I concede blame, have been venturing on for a considerable length of time battled back. Out of sheer desperation, a couple of radicals yielded their lives for the more prominent reason of freedom. It is unethical and against my belief to support brutality or attempt to legitimize terrible activities, yet they were not ridiculous or unbelievable. Since an answer for the

The attacks in Paris are unquestionably horrific, but whether they could be used to legally justify an all-out war on ISIS is far from clear.” The Atlantic, a newspaper said this about the attacks, In the aftermath of attacks like the one in Paris on Friday, which killed 129 and critically wounded nearly as many, two sets of questions tend to arise: How could this happen? And why did it happen? The “how” questions are what preoccupy investigators for the first few days after such an attack, as they race to identify the terrorists and their partners before they can strike again. A terrorist act such as the Paris attacks usually involve many more people than the wrongdoers; as of this writing, seven known terrorists have been killed, but authorities in France and Belgium, where the attacks are believed to have been organized. Officials will also be looking for weaknesses in France’s defenses. How could so many attackers with explosives have penetrated the
Airport security in the United States has been a controversial topic since the terrorist attacks of September 11th. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was established to ensure the safety and security of US airports. Travelers voiced concerns and complaints over the heightened security measures, arguing that they invade privacy and are unethical. On the other hand, Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport takes a very different approach to tackle terrorism in airports. Instead of high-tech machines, the airport focuses on the use of intelligence data and profiling to effectively identify terrorists. The United States should put more focus on personal interaction with
Security at commercial service airports includes passenger screening and checked-baggage screening amongst other security protocols. Passengers are screened based on a passenger-screening system (PSS). The system incorporates screening and profiling by labeling the passenger as either low or high risk, if the passenger is considered low risk and is also not chosen at random to receive additional scrutiny, the passenger passes through the metal detector and sends their carry-on bags through the x-ray machine, and this process is called primary screening; if the passenger is labeled as high risk, they have to pass through primary screening followed by a more thorough search of their
