Dogs and cats are the most common pets in the United States. In most cases, people prefer one over the other. Meaning some people are either a dog lover or a cat lover. There has been plenty of debates and studies done to decide what animal is better. But in the end, it is up to the person caring for the animal to know which one suits them better. Although dogs and cats have several similarities, they are very different. By looking at each animal, we will discuss the similarities and differences of the attention, time, care and cost of each require and learn why these animals may be chosen together or one picked over the other.
First of all, both animals require attention and time. Although both animals require these things, it’s in a

Dogs go the bathroom outside. This usually requires the owner to let the dog outside and then let them back inside once the duty is done. Most dog owners also like to pick up the poop in their yard. Cats on the other hand, go the bathroom in a litterbox. The owners aren’t required to go outside and wait for their cat to go to the bathroom. However, just like the picking up of poop of dogs, the cats litterbox needs to be cleaned. It is all up the person on whose hair, food, on bathroom mess they want to deal with.
Lastly, just like everything else, dogs and cats cost money. Right off the bat, you pay to adapt or buy them. Although, depending on the breed and where you purchase your animals, dogs usually cost more. Most dogs also eat more than cats, meaning you will spend more money on food. In addition, dogs also need vaccinations, supplies like a brush, shampoo and conditioner, and toys to keep them content. Cats will need vaccinations as well, a litterbox with litter, along with a few toys. Also, when dog owners go out of town for the weekend, they will more than likely need to either board their dogs or have someone take care of them, in which both cost money. Cats, depending on the length of vacation, can be left at home with plenty of access to food, water, and a litterbox. As you can see both animals cost money to buy and support. It is up to the person buying the animal to see which animal is worth the money.
Although, dogs and cats are the most common
Whether it is an inside cuddle buddy, or an outside mice killer, cats make wonderful pets. While dogs stay dirty, drool, and bark, cats clean themselves, are clean animals, and meow quietly. Cats are warm and fuzzy and love to cuddle while they take naps. Dogs are too rambunctious and energetic. Cats make better pets than dogs.
One of the dog’s best advantage is that according to the article, ”they can be trained to protect your home, keeping it safe from harm.”(Anonymous) The dog’s ability to defend it’s owner alone justifies it as the better option for many every household from the frail elderly to the budding family. Furthermore the cat cannot adequately guard its household, and may even disregard its owner’s property and viciously destroy furniture as mentioned
Dogs’ eagerness to please their masters is also a commendable trait which cats simply don’t have. Without this, it would be very difficult to train dogs for the many jobs they now hold, from aiding law enforcement personnel and herding sheep, to seeing-eye dogs and even helping exterminators locate hard-to-find infestations. While dogs and cats are a lot alike, you have to consider their differences before you choose your pet. As mentioned before cats do not require cleaning nor exercising or training, while dogs are in need of all these things. If you want to raise a pet then, try to manage your time before you choose your best
One of the most debated arguments to this day would have to be that cats are better than dogs. Did you know that more people own cats than dogs? In the US, 95.6 Million people own cats compared to the 83.3 million who own dogs. This speech will state why cats are smarter, cleaner, easier to look after and are also beneficial for your health, such as lowering your blood pressure and lowering your cholesterol.
Canines are extremely messy, needy and smelly. They slobber, stink and need to be taken on walks. A dog will slobber on you and your things like a non-stop waterfall. They’re slobber, like the rest of their body reeks. Their smell will not only be on them but on you, your house and in your car. Wouldn’t you rather have an animal that keeps its saliva inside its mouth and hardly smells of anything? Unlike cats, dogs also have to be taken outside on walks to use the bathroom. A cat on the other hand will quietly use the litter box without your help. You could always let your dog out in
Another difference between cats and dogs is their social interactions. Dogs are more of pack animals. Members of their pack or family are very critical to them. They look for a
Owning an animal can take up a lot of time. For most people time is of the essence, and spending a lot of time on an animal is unrealistic . Cats are able to live without their owners for days on end. They can usually find something to eat, and pee if plants for example. But dogs need to be put in kennels and looked after by another person. Dogs also have to be put on leashes when they are outside. Cats have the ability to roam freely because their owners do not have to worry about them causing a lot of trouble. A cat is allowed to be outside until late hours because owners know that the feline will make its way home, where as a dog at night is usually brought inside, or chained up outside.
This is the simplest thing to understand. You must take care of your pets, money is only an object. Your pet is family, your pet will be with you through everything if you treat them correctly. Again, pets aren’t cheap. Food for a dog or cat can cost $5.00 - $30.00 alone. A pet is like a child. They depend on you to keep them alive and healthy.
For millions of years dogs have remained a constant companion of man. Bred from the aggressive and formidable Gray Wolf tens of thousands of years ago the domestic dog now lives in many homes across the world. Where in the far distant past the domestic dog was bred as a guard animal, a beast of burden, and even a food source the dogs of today are bred for a far more endearing purpose-companionship and love. Finding a pet dog that is more of a joy than a chore is necessary when asking: How much is that puppy in the window?
Introduction Humans began domesticating animals around 12,000 years ago, mainly for the purposes of agricultural and the establishment of permanent farming settlements [1]. Dogs were also domesticated around this time and were mainly used as guard and hunting animals; Cat domestication occurred 9500 years ago, mainly for our ancestors to exterminate mice from grain caches [1]. Today, 57% of Canadian households own pets and the most common pet is the cat, with 37% of households owning at least one; Dogs are second at 32% [2]. Evolutionary Problem Pet ownership goes against evolutionary principles. Spending time caring for a non-human species means less interest and effort invested in raising human offspring; in the interests of evolutionary fitness, humans should focus on developing relationships with other humans, attract mates, produce and care for offspring and take care of relatives [3].
Many pet owners perceive to say that having a pet is the best thing in the whole world. In the United States, about 63% of households have a furry friend to call their own. They come in many different colors and sizes that make them unique and fun to play with. However, owning a pet anywhere can be very controversial. Some people think that owning a pet can throw away most their money that they earn on a day to day basis. Even if that might be true, pets can also benefit people in many ways that is worth spending a little extra money. In my opinion, I think that everyone should have a pet of their own because they can improve health, can provide entertainment, and create a special friendship or companionship with its owner. (6)
If you are environmentally conscious, you may be concerned with carbon footprints that are left behind. If that is the case, owning a cat is better for the environment than owning a dog. A study was conducted in 2009 which discovered that the resources it takes to feed and care for a dog during its lifetime create the same carbon footprint or eco-print, that is equivalent to that of a large Sports Utility Vehicle. A cat, on the other hand, eats less and has better food products, so they will leave a carbon footprint equivalent to that of a compact
