Doctor Faustus, a intelligent professor, thought selling his soul would give him ultimate powers. He wanted experience, pleausre, and a lot of knowledge. The devil fooled him, and sucked him in the evil world. Fausts had many opinions about mankind, and how things were on earth. Faust was dissatisfied with human knowledge. He didn't like how things worked in the world. Being the smart person he was, Faust wanted everything his way. Faust fell in love with one of the characters in the play. Her name was Margret, and she did a very horrific things to please him. Gretchen, or Maragret was a simple, and innocent woman who developed into a figure of tragic, and denial. She was pure person and portrayed to be innocent. She became a victim of Faust's seduction due to loneliness, inexperience, and resentment of her mother being so strict. She thought that Faust's love will be permanent and unselfish as she was, but she had many things that lead her on. Faust wanted her to leave, but she felt she need to stay. Her actions got the best of her, and all she wanted was forgivness. She quotes "Its not granted to me anymore; I feel that I must force myself on you, that you are thrusting me from you" (417.4530). She was done falling for Faust, she started to think for her own. "Leave me! No! I will not be forced! Do not hold me in that murderious grip! There was nothing, once, I would not do for you"(421.4580). Maragret basically said she did everything evil that Faust wanted her to do, then she just wanted to be left alone. She wanted forgivness from God, and would have done anything.
