The first chapter:
The novel starts of with a lawyer named Mr Utterson going for a walk with his friend Mr Enfield. They walk past a door, which reminds Mr Enfield of a sad story which he decides to tell. The story is about a brutal man who knocked down a young girl. Mr Enfield became very angry and screamed at the man who didn’t want any trouble. He therefore gave mr Enfield a large check signed by Dr Jekyll. This horrible man turned out to be Mr Hyde.

I think that that is a very interesting start to the book. Things start happening immediately which makes the book a lot more exciting than it probably would have been otherwise. The whole story is about the strange relation between Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and this beginning makes you understand …show more content…

I know that it takes place in London because the book on multiple occasions names the district that most parts seem to take place in, which is Soho, London. The reasons why I think the story takes place during the victorian era is because that is when the writer lived, the style of english they use is very likely from that era too. The way of living also seems to be from a time like the victorian era, with private people having servants occurring, which probably wasn’t very common before the victorian era.

Review:
I think that the book is very interesting. I like the story and that it’s different from most other books and movies. It’s an original and somewhat of a dark story, which I like. I find stories that are a little darker than others more exciting.
There are things happening all the time in the story which makes the book a lot less boring. I also think it’s a very well written book. It describes characters in a really good way and the description of characters emotions are also great. The author almost always seems to use just the right words and wording in order to make it interesting with a fantastic flow.
I think that the target group that the author had in mind when writing the book was english speaking people in the late 19th century.

The Author:
Robert Louis Stevenson was born 1850 in Edinburgh. He grew up as an only child and found it hard to fit in at school. Robert started to write as quickly as he could read which his father was very supportive of. Although Robert had a great passion about writing, it wasn’t from the start supposed to be his source of income. Both his father and grandfather were lighthouse engineers and it looked like Robert would be following their footsteps as he began studying engineering himself. Robert didn’t feel any passion for what he was studying. He finished his courses but never began working as an engineer, instead he started studying law. Stevenson didn’t enjoy studying law either and after this he decided
