Drag racing has a certain mystique that appeals not only to professionals, but also to adolescents coming of age. Without access to a drag strip, some teenagers with customized cars engage in street racing as an illegal and dangerous form of drag racing. Street racers find a strip of straight road and compete against each other. The movie American Graffiti (1973) featured a street racing scene, while The Fast and the Furious (2001) was based around a proposed subculture of street racers. Street racing is extremely dangerous and results in many senseless deaths each year.
Though professional drag racing is enjoyed worldwide, it remains most popular in the United States, where it originated. Drag racing events are thrilling to attend, with speeds matched only by the incredible roar of the engines. Those with sensitive hearing may want to bring earplugs.

The intricacies that are involved in turning a regular car into a “Street Racer” are many; and racers pour their souls into these magnificent machines. After seeing “the Fast and the Furious” many people have or wanted to become involved in street racing. They do not realize that this is a sport that takes knowledge, hard work, and nerve. Many of these racers have spent their lives under a car, learning the trade and improving upon it. As I have learned, this is not just a hobby; it is a way of life.

From the second you pull up to the race track you catch a glimpse of the oval shaped, quarter mile clay track that contains four sharp turns. As soon as you exit your vehicle, you are faced with a distinct odor of the sweet smell of cherry race fuel that is burning off of the race cars preparing to go out onto the race track from the pit area. The “pit area” is the location of the race track where all the racer car drivers and pit crew members park, fine tune, and tweak their set ups on their race cars for the particular track. The adjustments and set ups of the races cars are vital due to the fact that every set up is unique to each and every track due to the different shapes. Another factor that the race car drivers and pit crew members have to take into consideration are the condition of the track, this is due to the fact that a dry track utilizes a different set up than a tacky track, which is a track that is “sticky” due to the abundance of

Even while it is an industry of its own (Racing industry), it still has many different branches. For instance, when we talk about racing, we can have an endless discussion about how many different kinds there are. On the legal side of racing, we have organized activities such as NASCAR racing events, but if we want to talk about illegal racing ways, we can talk about street racing or drag racing on local streets.
