Dramatism Review on Revenge
The Golden Globe nominated television show Revenge, debuted in 2010. Revenge was produced and created by Mike Kelly. The drama television series is about Emily Thorne who is really Amanda Clarke, whose father was framed for treason when she was a little girl. After a lengthy trial, he was imprisoned for life, and was murdered in prison by the agents who framed him. She has now returned to the Hamptons as an adult to get revenge on those who wronged her father. Not only is Revenge entertaining it also pushes the norm to see how far you will go for someone you love. I will dissect this television series into five different elements act, agent(s), agency, scene, and purpose. In Revenge the act is Emily pushing for revenge against the Grayson’s. The agent is Emily Thorne (Amanda Clarke). The agency is her background on the Grayson’s, Nolan Ross, and her background in martial arts. Nolan Ross is basically her sidekick and guardian angel. He keeps her grounded and watches her back. He keeps her on track and points out her options. The scene is set in the Hamptons with Emily planning her revenge against the people who wronged her father. Family, honor, duty, and love (Amanda goal is to clear her father and she shows no bounds for which she will go to do this) are the purpose for this show. After watching this series I believe that the dominant elements are the purpose and agent. Without the purpose of her trying to clear her father’s name the
In Elizabethan times, a type of play known as a "revenge tragedy" became popular. These plays revolved around, "... the revenge of a father for a son or vice versa, the revenge being directed by the ghost of the murdered man..." (Harmon and Holman #6). Other characteristics include real or pretend insanity, philosophic soliloquies, hesitation on the part of the protagonist, conspiracy, and the use of horror. William Shakespeare's Hamlet fully satisfies each of these traits, making it an excellent example of a revenge tragedy. Certainly, the most critical theme in the play by far is that of revenge; it fuels the plot and story of Hamlet, reveals the hamartia of the protagonist, and is used successfully to
Revenge presents a story of a vicious woman who moves into the Hamptons in order to seek vengeance after a family she believes what responsible for the dead of incarceration and death of her father David Clarke. The anger, guilt, and pride of revenge has become a part of the society they live in that everyone is consumed in it. The analysis of Revenge reveals how the TV show critiques society’s belief in regards to love, marriage, family, money, success, and gender roles. Ideology is defined as a cultural norm in which most of society is expected to abide by, this controls how individuals act towards one another or how they might perceive themselves. It is simply a belief system or a worldview of a culture.
Revenge as a theme is cleverly built upon throughout Hamlet; with it being the driving force behind three of the key characters in the play. Revenge is a frighteningly vicious emotion, which causes people to act blindly and without reason. In Poe’s, “The Cask of Amontillado”, Montresor enacts revenge for reasons unknown. Hamlet in contrast, has all the motive in the world to complete his task; yet he constantly hesitates. The text reveals that the need for revenge creates a stranglehold on the genuine emotions, thoughts, and actions of three characters: Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, Laertes; son of Polonius, and Fortinbras; Prince of Norway. This hold makes the characters act beyond their standard ethical positions and makes them helpless to

In a society where some cultural belives that in a marriage or relationship what happens
Revenge is shown throughout Shakespeare's play Hamlet, leaving the destruction of human relationships in its wake. The act of vengeance is usually a violent act against someone as a result of something they directly or indirectly did. This can be seen in The Tragedy of Hamlet; Prince of Denmark with Hamlet’s plan to murder Claudius for the death of his father, King Hamlet, and Laertes’ similar plan to murder Hamlet for the death of his father, Polonius. When someone is attempting to seek retribution against someone else, it results in that person deceiving the people they love to further progress their intentions. Because of revenge, ones suffering increases due to the continuous loss of relationships with your love ones. Revenge could even put you in a situation that could risk your own life. Throughout Shakespeare's play, William Shakespeare demonstrated how revenge leads to a path of deceit and despair.
In today’s society, when people generally break up, they part ways and move on with life. But every now and again, they could also end on very bad note, sometimes even resulting in death. Everybody has reacted to the emotion of revenge before. In Euripides’s play Medea, Medea plays the role of a woman in rage. Medea’s rage leads her to seek vengeance on her unloyal husband, Jason, killing everything that and anything that means something to him, even their own children together.
Now in the present revenge, most of the time, ends with the happy ending. Usually revenge is seen as the “heroic” revenge where at the end it leads to the happy ending for the “good guys.” The media usually shows the positive side of revenge. Which in return shows most the sweet side of revenge that ends up giving people a good take on revenge. Showing that a good dose of revenge will make everything better. A modern outtake of this is the new movie Deadpool. The main actor decides to seek out revenge on the man that almost destroying his life. He successfully acts out his revenge and takes out the one who destroyed his old life. This is just a classic ending; with the act of revenge successfully acted out it leads to the cliché happy ending.
Forensic Files is an American documentary styles series talks about how forensic science is used to solve violent crime, mysterious accident, and even outbreaks of illness. I am a real fun of this program, been watching it for almost one year now and still watch it till this date. One of the important parts I like about this show is the producer. I find it more interesting of how they are able to condense every story and cover up all the details in just thirty minutes. In this program, violent is used as the main plot. In this show, Crimes that have taken place are often violent crime, or people are being poisoned by thallium; arsenic or anti-freeze. This show is based on a true story that has taken place all over United States and some part of Canada.
A dramatist who explores the theme of revenge throughout his play is Arthur Miller in ‘The Crucible. There are different characters in this play that carry this theme of revenge, Abigail being one in particular, as she seeks revenge against Goody Proctor. This is due to Goody Proctor firing Abigail from her job after she had found out Abigail had had an affair with her husband. This seventeen-year-old girl also has an endless capacity for dissembling. John Proctor, Reverend Parris, and the Putnam’s are also characters in the play that are out to seek revenge for their own reasons. It could through the theme of revenge, be said that Miller tries to enhance your application of the play.
The single most destructive force in this world is revenge. An immense amount of wars, murders, division, and hatred is due to the evil that is revenge. There are many famous forms of literature that discuss revenge. One is “Of Revenge” by Sir Francis Bacon. In this essay Bacon explains the evil of revenge and why it shouldn’t be taken. Also, down-playing revenge, Robert Kennedy gave a speech called “A Eulogy for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” Immediately following the death of Dr. King, Kennedy pleads with the African American community and America to forgive this offense instead of taking revenge for King’s murder. The final piece of media that discusses revenge does it in a different manor. Edgar Allen Poe writes about revenge in a short story called “The Cask of Amontillado.” The plot of this story is that of a man named Montresor desperately seeks revenge upon a colleague and eventually murders him by trapping him in catacombs deep underground. No matter what the circumstances, revenge should never be taken because men become controlled and destroyed by revenge, and revenge creates division among people.
The theme of Revenge has been utilized in numerous works of art throughout history, including books, plays, movies, etc. Revenge is the result of one’s desire for vengeance, however, revenge is known to be implied under high emotions of anger thus not with reason concluding with a horrible outcome. Shakespeare’s play ‘Hamlet’ is no doubt a play about a tragedy caused by revenge; Prince Hamlet’s retribution for his father, King Hamlet’s murder and Laertes vengeance for his father, Polonius’ murder. The theme of revenge in Hamlet is portrayed through various literary techniques such as foreshadowing and irony.
Revenge can be defined as “the act of retaliating for wrongs received”. William Shakespeare 's “Hamlet” is considered one of his greatest plays and the plot is centered on revenge. Euripides ' Medea also shares a theme of revenge. While both central characters have been betrayed, resulting in their impending revenge, there is more than one theme of revenge in Hamlet, and there are differences in the ways all decide to handle their betrayals and the outcomes of their actions.
The play “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare is about a guy named Hamlet going through a hard time in life, after the death of his father, and the remarriage of his mother to his uncle. Throughout the play were are able to get a greater understanding of who Hamlet really is. The actions of Hamlet in Shakespeare's master piece “Hamlet” proves him to a revenge seeker, emotional, and crazy.
Often referred to as the Last Great Dynasty, The Qing Dynasty ruled China for over three centuries. The Qing were a proud dynasty and relied little upon foreign trade and influences to grow their economy. This was partly because The Qing were a self-sufficient society. Another reason for the denial of Western influences was due to The Qing’s great pride of their own culture. Any acceptance of Western influences would dilute the values and traditions of The Qing. That being said, The Qing did allow a trivial amount of foreign trade to take place in the Port of Canton. The refusal to allow Western influences, the lack of knowledge of the importance of foreign relations and the continued reliance of Confucian teachings all played a part in the demise of The Qing Dynasty. The modernization of China would not be possible without the rebellion of 1911.
"The time is out of joint: O cursed spite, / That ever I was born to set it right!" (I.5). Shakespeare's Hamlet is an unwilling avenger. Despite his hatred of his uncle Claudius and his sense of the injustice perpetuated upon his father's memory, Hamlet seems unable to obey the will of his father's ghost. Ultimately, this is not shown to be a sign of weakness or cowardice upon Hamlet's part. Rather, the intellectual protagonist understands all too well the futility of attempting to use violence to enact justice. By attempting to become an avenger, Hamlet simply begets more violence.
