I will organize my work around the “Introduction to production” course I teach at Point Blank College. It is a “music technology” course that is recognised by the British educational system (NOCN level 2). The key aims of the course consist in: -Guiding students to acquire basic compositional techniques and develop their personal career. -Developing the student’s self motivation that will allow them to integrate the music industry I have

Paolo Freire also support this concept by saying: ”Humility helps us to understand this obvious truth: No one knows it all; no one is ignorant of everything. (Page 39) I always make sure my students understand that I am still a “professional in Activity” and therefore I am constantly learning new techniques just like them.
Paolo Freire thinks, “Learning is a process where knowledge is presented to us, then shaped through understanding, discussion and reflection”. (Page 31). I think education should provide a link for the students to analyse and develop their personal experiences and help them to view these under a new light. Education needs to be a “liberating” process by which the learner develops a critical analysis to learning. I believe in a constructivist educational approach that leads the student to research about the subject to “hit the problem” first. We then discuss it in the classroom so that when the solution is understood it is valuable and meaningful. I would like my teaching to lead the students to think for themselves so they develop and acknowledge the analytic process. The techniques explained in class should be supported by the student’s own researches. With the emergence of the World Wide Web and mostly online tutorial videos, it is vital that my learners
People begin their education from day one till the day they die. Therefore, every day, we always learn new things in different ways such as education, news, magazine, internet, etc. An ideologist, Paulo Freire, in his narrative essay, “The Banking Concept of Education,” present the modern concept of and approaches to education. Freire’s purpose is to compare the two educational systems, the “banking concept” and the “problem-posing concept”. Throughout his essay, he argues strongly to support his creative own and make his readers believe that problem-posing education is more efficient than the banking education.
After meticulously analyzing the relationship between students and teachers, Freire came to a grim conclusion, claiming “Education is suffering from narration sickness” (57). Already, in the first paragraph, Freire gets straight to his work’s purpose. He defines this sickness as the loss of knowledge coming from the verbal sharing of information. When a teacher narrates information to students, the students lose the ability to truly learn what the teacher is teaching. Without the experience received from answering a question themselves, it is impossible for a student to genuinely understand a concept.
This essay is to demonstrate that I understand my own roles and responsibilities in lifelong learning.
To solve the problem plaguing the education system, Freire offers a solution which involves a “problem-posing education”. In this system the roles of teachers and students become mixed and left more open to interpretation. Both the teacher and student actively participate in effective communication to gain an understanding of the information being taught instead of just memorization. According to Freire, “Knowledge emerges only through invention and re-invention, through the restless, impatient,
In Paulo Freire’s essay “The Banking Concept of Education,” he discusses the flaws he has seen in the education system. Specifically he argues that in most education systems the students are just empty receptacles being filled by their teachers, there is no dialog between the teacher and students. Freire thinks that in education learning should not be a one way thing, there should be a dialog going on between the teacher and students. Another big point Freire emphasizes in his essay is active learning, so that everyone is learning and participating. In Freire’s essay he proposes a new way of learning/a new concept of learning called the “problem posing concept.” Another point Freire makes in his problem-posing concept is that education is
In the excerpt from “The Banking Concept of Education” the author, Paulo Freire explains the critical flaw in the current education system. He continues by offering his believed solution to this problem. The two concepts Freire discusses in this excerpt are the “banking concept” of education and the “problem-posing method” of education. The “banking concept” is talked about rather negatively, whereas the “problem-posing method” is talked about highly. Freire believes in the “problem-posing method” and that students should have free-will to a certain extent in the classroom with less authoritative power from the teacher during discussions.
The article, Teaching Humility in an Age of Arrogance written by Michael Patrick Lynch, starts off his article by first defining humility and arrogance. Thinking that you know it all and you don’t need to improve because you know everything or are great already, is an arrogant way of thinking. He believes the major reason Americans think this way is because of technology. The Internet gives us so much information that we cannot as humans explain it ourselves. We over estimate our knowledge about the world and at the end of the day; humans are not machines that know everything. Lynch stated it is a good thing we do not know everything because together everyone knowledge can know “quite a bit.” Lynch mentions that we either know it or it
The relationship between the teacher and the student can be associated with two different methods of learning. Paulo Freire suggests the “The ‘Banking’ Concept of Education”, in which the teacher “fills the account” of the student with information and knowledge they have (318). Freire also explains the concept of “problem posing” learning that contradicts the “banking” concept. This way helps the student become more involved with their education, and they are able to become a more well-rounded student. But Freire ignores to add any supporting detail to his points based on how a student feels about each method of education. Determining the best way of an education is all
As a middle school Humanities student, I was offered a Media Production course. It has become one of my favorite classes because it allows me to use film-making as a creative outlet. In this class, I am hard-working, creative, and curious.
In the essay “The Banking Concept of Education,” Paulo Freire Explains his view of the educational system. His essay is primarily based on two types of educational methods, which are the “banking education” and the “problem-posing education”. Banking education resists the communication between the student and the teacher, and it does not encourage critical thinking. Problem-posing education gives the students liberation to dialogue and encourages critical thinking. In this essay, I will explain why I promote the problem-posing education. Also, I will explain why people need to experience both methods in their educational experiences. I prefer the problem-posing education because teachers allow communication and there is an engagement with their students to help them learn effectively. One must experience banking education to realize that problem-posing education is a better method to teach students.
When you think of a typical day in any classroom, you probably imagine students sitting in a desk taking notes with the teacher talking non stop. It’s like our minds are empty and it’s up to the teacher to fill us up with the required information for the course. The next day and the day after that, it’s the same process over and over again. I just explained the banking system which Freire describes as the flaws in the teaching-learning space for students and teachers. In his book he states, “the teacher talks about reality as if it were motionless, static, compartmentalized, and predictable”. This in return causes students to have a lack of creativity and not understanding the significance of what’s being taught. He turns this around by bringing up a new problem-posing education which emphasizes a better atmosphere in a classroom by asking questions, being open minded, and keeping a mindset for

Encountering a problem, and being able to solve it, individually and uniquely is the very definition of genius. This idea was explored by the Brazilian educator, Paulo Freire, who applied the Marxist dialectic to the educational environment in many systems. In a very prominent style, he promotes problem-solving as the way everyone should be taught to learn. Freire believes that individuals should stop trying to memorize “academic” knowledge, rather, we as a society should strive for creating unique solutions to problems. This argument is the banking, problem-solving clash, where Freire believes storing information will keep the world idle and problem-solving will create an idle-less world. Author Rodriguez, offers an example of Paulo’s baking ideas, but creates a full circle of reasoning by linking how the banking method evolves to the problem solving method that creates the world 's intellectuals. This enormous achievement was accomplished by Rodriguez ironically leaving school, ultimately problem-solving his desire to learn more about himself and his family.
In his essay “The ‘Banking’ Concept of Education” Freire describes the faults in our current educational system and the method he believes should replace it. He shows how the banking concept of education creates an environment where students just receive and store information, but never question why things are the way they are. Then goes on to explain how in the banking concept teachers act as if they are superior to the students by referring to teachers as oppressors and students as oppresses. In his essay Freire also gives a solution to the problems he describes in the banking concept. It’s called the problem posing method and it is an interactive way of learning where your mind is more engaged. This is a liberating educational experience where teachers and students are equal. That the teacher learns with the student and encourages them. He then describes how these two different methods affect the
The teaching profession is perceived in general as being worthy of esteem or respect. It may come as a shock to some idealists, or those who regard the entire education system as an environment that is free of flaws and suspicion, that some individuals working within its premises who are supposed to be upright and model citizens may lead others to think twice before considering the former as worthy of the people’s trust. This is why many regarded the late Paulo Freire as one of the widely known and esteemed critics due to his contributions in the concepts of education. This research focused on two important theories formulated by Freire: banking education which represents traditional models, and problem-posing education which offers a revolutionary type of curriculum. Based on the aforementioned concepts, the thesis of this paper argued that students learn more effectively with problem-posing education.
