"I think it's dumb!" Liam blurted out. Everyone immediately started looking at him. "I mean, if we inhale too much helium, it's bad for our lungs and our voices will sound really light." Liam glanced at Matthew Caldwell's stopwatch. Twenty seven seconds for the day, and 44 seconds average. Liam's on the other hand, had 1:22 for the day and 3:46 for his average. What they were looking at was their stopwatches. The stopwatches were what timed how long they talked and also timed there average amount of time that they talked. If their average was over a minute, a government official might catch them and they could be in jail or executed. Completely up to the mood of the government.

This book is about the final girls in the selection who are fighting for the spot of being Maxons wife. In this journal I would be predicting if America or kriss will be marrying Maxon. First off I predict that America will be marrying Maxon. I think America will be marring Maxon because at the Halloween Ball, Maxon said that he is going to be marrying America. He even had a toast to his “future wife” and as he was saying it he looked at America and gave her a wink. Maxon also showed only America the princess room. He did not show anyone else besides her. When the rebels last came, America was outside. So when she saw them, she ran in to the woods and got lost. Maxon was worried sick about her and not knowing where she is. As soon as America got checked in to the hospital, Maxon went to go and see her right away. But I also predict that Kriss will be marring Maxon. I think Kriss will be the one marring Maxon because he has been spending a lot of time with Kriss. He even siting by her during the meals. For every Party, Maxon always asks Kriss for the first dance. Maxon said that he does not want to send Kriss home but he also does not want to send America home. I predict that America will be the one marrying Maxon because of all the things he has said/promised her and the way he has acting around
In the book, The One by Kiera Cass, the main character, America, changes throughout the story due to the choices that she has to make between the guy who she has known her whole life or the prince she meets while joining the selection.
“Among the Hidden” is a dystopian book written by Margaret Peterson Haddix. Luke Garner is a 12-year-old illegal boy in his family according to their society. In Luke’s society third child’s or as I may call it shadow children were illegal. However, if the government found out you had a third child the child was to be eliminated. Luke was raised in a farm near the woods. In addition, Luke wasn’t allowed to be near the windows anytime which is why he always stayed in the attic. One day Luke discovered another shadow child named Jen, this discovery changed Luke’s life extremely throughout this novel.
During the whole story, it talks about how the girls in the Selection face suspense because they aren’t sure what will happen next , or who Maxon is leaning towards. After the girls made a conclusion on where they stand in the Selection, it impacts another suspenseful moment. Who will get kicked out next? In the perspective of a reader reading this book this is seen as a cause and effect situation . For example, for every girl that is eliminated from the Selection must have done something to provoke Prince Maxon. That leads to the remaining of the girls and on pins and needles so they won’t be next ones eliminated. To introduce the characters, Kiera Cass shows that the readers could know more about each character without having them fully introduced. For instance, a good example would be how people can easily tell the personality of Celeste because of what America and the other girls have said behind her back. But truly the author was giving more information about the personalities the different girls have in a silent but directed
“The Lottery’s” effectiveness leans on subtle character traits and changes—her style, while not as minimal, reminds me of Carver, in that what is left unsaid is nearly as important as her stripped down and dialed back use of character description. Though there is an undercurrent of unease slowly pulsing through “The Lottery”, it isn’t until the moment that a flying rock hits the side of Tessie Hutchinson’s head, that all the groundwork Jackson laid out comes into complete focus. Once we realize what the members
Dystopia. Dys·to·pi·a /disˈtōpēə/ noun An imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one.
Power is significant to humanity; it gives people advantages, especially in relationships. This idea is evident in Ernest Hemingway's "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber. " Their excessive need for power constantly challenges Margot and Macomber's exciting relationship. They are both continually looking for the upper hand on each other, which eventually involves outsiders in the relationship, such as Robert Wilson. After Wilson has an affair with Margot and witnesses Macomber's death, he comes out on top.
I look to the right of my bed and it’s there; crouching beside me. Its face is pure white and doesn’t resemble skin at all, but a shining porcelain. The monster doesn’t have a mouth - there is just skin running down from the bottom of its nose to its chin. Shielding it’s beady eyes are a pair of raven-black goggles strapped to its bald head. It wears what resembles a completely circular helmet the colour of a neon orange and its hands are covered in tactical gloves, dark as a jet-black night. It wears an amber jumpsuit and stare into my soul. Its wretched face is about five centimetres away from mine and I can feel an ice cold breath creep onto my forehead. The creatures body is hunched over and strange
The literal level of "The Lottery" illustrates a town's chilling tradition of a random selection of death by stoning of a certain person. Figuratively, however, one aspect of Jackson's short story bravely reveals the reality of society's control over women by placing on them expectations and limitations.
John lives with his wife, patricia and a daughter named sia in a big, fancy mansion. John and patricia own the best coffee shop in the town, dystopia. Sia loves the pumpkin spice latte with strawberry whip cream. The coffee shop became popular when sia was born five years ago, 2116. The chocklit family do grocery shopping in macadame loft for their coffee shop. Everyone in 2121 in Dystopia pay with their face. There are security scanning machines with facial recognition system. Everyone pays with their face in the coffee shop. One day, a young man ordered a chocolate, whipped cappucino and almost walked out the door.
Additionally, a second author impact would be to motivate one to make a change. The novel, The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau, takes place in a dystopian society revolving around the poverty/wealth inequality. The effects that have come because of the poverty in their society, shows the reader that in any scenario change is a good thing. One can learn to make a positive change over these inequities by the impact they have on a society. An example would be when the main character, Cia, is speaking with her roommate and she says that lots of people in her town are hungry. (Charbonneau) To sum it up, motivating one to make a change is another author impact.
A dystopia the darkest form of government, a utopia gone wrong, a craving for power, struggling for fewer rules. The dystopia is factual the worst possible form of a government. Its the struggle to be so perfect that it fails. There are typically two types of dystopias first a monarchy. A monarchy is a group of people controlled by a king or queen, and they make every last decision. What they want they get. A monarchy is typically born like this example from lord of the flies. “He became absorbed beyond mere happiness as he felt himself exercising control over living things. He talked to them, urging them, ordering them"(Golding 58). This shows that a monarchy starts by one just taking over from the start rather than being a
