Eastwood Pharmacy is a private pharmacy owned and run by Richard A. Brafford. It is located at 1605 East Plaza Drive in Tallahassee, FL. The hours of the store are 9 AM to 6 PM Monday through Friday, and the staff include two pharmacists and two pharmacy technicians along with a store manager. When I first received Eastwood Pharmacy as my site, I was very excited to see the inside workings of a private pharmacy. I did not have any prior experience in a retail pharmacy prior to walking into Eastwood Pharmacy on August 5th, but as soon as I walked out for the day, I felt more comfortable with the retail environment than I ever would have thought I would. Eastwood Pharmacy was established in 1979. Dr. Brafford bought the pharmacy for around $38,000 from a small group of drug representatives who had owned three pharmacies in Tallahassee, including Eastwood Pharmacy. Being a private pharmacy mostly run by the owner, Eastwood mostly serves the surrounding elderly community. They do have relations with some of the hospitals and other institutions in the area, but primarily they focus on their small, close-knit relations with their individual patients. Richard A. Brafford is the head pharmacists, and he works in conjunction with Anna Pawelczyk, RPh. Dr. Brafford, less formerly known as Rick around the pharmacy, is responsible for all of the workings, in and out, in his pharmacy. He and Mrs. Pawelczyk are responsible for making sure that each prescription that comes through their

Thank you Lord! I am very grateful to be able to successfully finish my third rotation at Walgreens pharmacy in Wellington, FL. My preceptor was Dr. Andrew Guvetis, a graduate from Nova Southern University and he has been working with Walgreens for a little over 2 years. During the first day, I noticed that this Walgreens was somewhat different from the others. It was designed like a wellness clinic where the pharmacist can spend some time during the day sitting on a desk right outside the pharmacy check-out counter and be accessible to answer any questions patients may have. It also had a big consultation room with comfy seating, a table including a sink and counter where a pharmacist can prepare immunizations or perform several screening tests. Walgreens offers health tests every day which help determine possible risks for heart disease or are looking for convenient ways to manage diabetes or high blood pressure. Some of the services offered include: cholesterol and blood pressure tests, body composition test and a comprehensive medication review. Test results are provided within minutes and it includes a pharmacist consultation as well.
When doctors prescribe medication for their patients, a local retail pharmacy is most likely to be utilized to fill the order. However, there is a growing population of older Americans that are no longer able to live independently and must reside in nursing homes or assisted living facilities. In order for this vulnerable population to receive their medications, a different kind of pharmacy is needed, these are known as LTC, long term care pharmacies. Within these specialized pharmacies there are highly trained employees called CPhTs, certified pharmacy technicians who are overseen by state licensed
The contribution of pharmacists in a clinical setting and community pharmacy is significant that the workforce benefit from. Walgreen’s drugstore was located in Barrett’s Hotel at Cottage Grove and Bowen Ave on Chicago’s Southside. The neighborhood was prospering but Walgreen’s wasn’t. Mr. Walgreen decided to add brighter lights, expand the aisles (since the other pharmacies were dull and cramped), and add variety like pots and pans (unheard of in a drugstore. The quality of Walgreen’s pharmaceutical compounds met the very highest standards of purity and freshness. Efficiency was increased. But the most dramatic change Mr. Walgreen instituted was a lever of service and personal attention unequaled by virtually any other pharmacy in Chicago. And this was exemplified by Walgreen’s famous “Two Minute Drill” (Walgreen, n.d., p. 3).
The forerunner of today's pharmacist, the apothecary procured, mixed, and evaluated medications. The role of the apothecary-pharmacist has undergone many changes over the centuries. Once associated with the supernatural and alchemy, the apothecary became a leading health care practitioner whose field of expertise was based on science and who often treated patients directly. Eventually, the traditional apothecary was replaced by pharmacists, as we know them from the local drug store. Today, the pharmacist is primarily a dispenser of drugs already formulated and manufactured by pharmaceutical
Oncology pharmacists are already reviewing all of inpatient chemotherapy orders. Today, most cancer patients are treated in the ambulatory setting. Pharmacists are health care professionals that work in their communities to raise the quality of life for the patients they serve. Pharmacists have been working at Consumer Values Stores (CVS) since their first doors opened in 1963. The company has since largely expanded and has become the second largest retail-pharmacy chain in the United States with more than 8,000 store nationwide. CVS is a billion dollar company and has since changed its corporate name to CVS Health along with becoming a leader in corporate social responsibility. The chain is going to great lengths to improve public health all over the country by doing such things as ceasing the sale of cigarettes in its stores and starting a nation-wide smoking cessation program called “We’re Tobacco Free”. CVS has also partnered with MinuteClinic to operate inside some of its stores.
Walgreens has grown from a small, neighborhood-oriented drug store to a trusted, national pharmacy. Founded in 1901 by Charles R. Walgreen, the company bloomed from a commitment made to perseverance. Walgreen came from Dixon, Illinois at the age of sixteen, working an unpleasant job at a drug store after he lost a portion of a finger that left him incapable of continuing a career in athletics. He left with an ambition of entrepreneurship as the flourishing city of Chicago welcomed him with the booming pharmacy business. Devoted to his goal, Walgreen worked his way through gaining experience and financial stability within the growing

In this incident, a malicious hacker had compromised the medical center’s credentials and was attempting to take out a large line of credit with the pharmacy to purchase drugs. The pharmacy’s act of calling the medical center to double check the order saved them from losing $500,000 in prescription drugs, and saved the medical center $500,000 being withdrawn from their account (Center for internet security, 2017).
