My experience with Practice Fusion free web-based EHR was intriguing, after creating an account on the website I was connected to my practice EHR. The Practice Fusion desktop was equipped with modules for patient management. Practice Fusion implemented a library of charts for physicians and a live feed of patients with medical and diagnostic history, lab tests, immunization records and CDC preventions, e-prescribing feature that has a patient prescription history, includes a medication library from which physicians can add custom medications, and has an email feature for sending drug information and dosage instructions. Practice Fusion also offers a EHR Training Guides that includes video tutorials, live webinars and a Meaningful Use Center.
However, there’s an enormous amount of money involved to acquire these advanced EHR systems. There are fears of losing the capital investment. According to Prasad (2013), “better medicine means stable business.” With EHRs capability to provide efficient healthcare services, it is helping in containing the healthcare cost. However, some CFOs have looked beyond the financial gains of the EHR implementation. “You have to look beyond that to the intangible benefits, the improvements in delivery care and position your organization to be competitive in the future” (“ROI: Look beyond,” n.d.). Indeed, EHR is a long-term investment for HCOs with a great promise for future

Choosing an EHR system that would accomplish all the required functions of the newly combined system was arguably the most important decision of the transition. The system chosen was eClinicalWorks (ECW). This allowed for a combination of all the needed departments such as medical, dental, and recovery services into one large on-line system.
I spoke with the Director of Informatics, Dorothy Vanderweil, to learn how our hospital addressed the implementation of an EHR. Dorothy was able to tell me how they assessed readiness, planned their approach, selected a certified EHR, and conducted training and implementation of the EHR. HMC assessed the specific flow of each department. At the start, they discovered there were individual needs for each department. They then assessed which departments could consolidate to share work flow. They evaluated the need for training of individuals and found many staff could barely use a mouse. HMC determined which devices would best suited when documenting in the EHR, along with how many devices were needed. The planning then began and the decision was made to use the C5 tablet for documenting. Of course, they needed to know the cost involved with the procurement of these devices. Decisions were made as to how and what they wanted to be able to view and chart. Since they were moving from paper charting there was no data integration to be concerned about. They formulated a plan for training including the adoption of super users for extra support during the first few months of going live. They selected Cerner as the EHR system to implement. Once all staff were trained and physicians as well, a decision was made to go live. By January 2010 HMC was ready and implemented the EHR certified system Cerner. Go live was very well planned with extra staff
Competition between Cerner and Epic is well known in the health care industry. True interoperability will not be achieved until competitors put aside their differences and work together. Like I said in a previous post, the Sequoia Group has garnered a great deal of interest among EMR vendors who want to utilize the Carequality Interoperability Framework.
Electronic Health Records (EHR), is a similar system but does more than an EMR in the sense of collecting clinical data, but is designed to reach out to other healthcare providers that originally collected and compiled the patient’s health information. EHRS can share information with other providers such as laboratories, specialists, and other physicians which help to prevent medical errors and better serve the patient since all clinicians involved information is available through the EHR. (Lighter, Donald E (2011). According to The National Alliance for Health Information Technology, EHR data “can be created, managed, and consulted by authorized clinicians and

Proprietary technology is a tool or system that is the property of a business and provides some sort of benefit or advantage to the owner. Midwest Urgent Care is not an innovative company trying to reinvent the wheel. We are simply trying to offer compassionate service, at an affordable price, whenever our customers need it. In order for me to achieve my goals at Midwest Urgent Care, I will have to maintain constant organization. Through my extensive exploration, I have found the best way to maintain organization is through the Cerner Acute Care Electronic Medical Record System. This EMR system includes a detailed scheduling dashboard where my staff and I can see information about an appointment, such as who is checked in, the patient’s reason for the appointment, medical history, lab results, and current drug list. Patients also have access to this portal so they are able to see their lab or test results at their convenience. Cerner uses a third party to integrate securely with 95% of all pharmacies nationwide. This means medication prescriptions can be filled quickly at the pharmacy of the patient’s choice. The software also connects with labs so I will be able to securely send orders and receive results

The electronic system will maintain information
