Edgar Allen Poe was a great poet that lived a rough life. Poe had lost many of his loved ones throughout his life and many were due to tuberculosis. Poe was very poor when he lived by himself and became an alcoholic. He had died when he was 40 years old and people believe that it was due to alcoholism or rabies. I believe that Poe had died of Rabies/Encephalitis because he had all of the symptoms of rabies and it was confirmed by doctors. It had been confirmed by doctors that Poe had died from encephalitic rabies. “Poe had all of the features of encephalitis rabies’ said Dr. Henry Wilde”. This quote means that if a doctor had confirmed that Poe had all of the symptoms of rabies, then he most likely died from it. According to Dr. Moran, one of its senior physicians diagnosed Poe’s condition as encephalitis. This means that Poe could have died from encephalitic rabies. Dr. Benitez said that he does not admit that the lack of bite or scratch is a weakness in his theory that Edgar Allen Poe may have died of rabies. I think that Dr. Benitez is saying that there is a possibility that Poe could have died from encephalitic rabies. The doctors said that Poe again grew confused and belligerent, then quieted down and died, just like a classic case of rabies. This is saying that Poe could have died just like anyone with a classic case of rabies. Poe refused alcohol and could drink water only with great difficulty.
