Edgar Allen Poe was a great poet that lived a rough life. Poe had lost many of his loved ones throughout his life and many were due to tuberculosis. Poe was very poor when he lived by himself and became an alcoholic. He had died when he was 40 years old and people believe that it was due to alcoholism or rabies. I believe that Poe had died of Rabies/Encephalitis because he had all of the symptoms of rabies and it was confirmed by doctors. It had been confirmed by doctors that Poe had died from encephalitic rabies. “Poe had all of the features of encephalitis rabies’ said Dr. Henry Wilde”. This quote means that if a doctor had confirmed that Poe had all of the symptoms of rabies, then he most likely died from it. According to Dr. Moran, one of its senior physicians diagnosed Poe’s condition as encephalitis. This means that Poe could have died from encephalitic rabies. Dr. Benitez said that he does not admit that the lack of bite or scratch is a weakness in his theory that Edgar Allen Poe may have died of rabies. I think that Dr. Benitez is saying that there is a possibility that Poe could have died from encephalitic rabies. I believe that if doctors have confirmed that Poe had died from rabies then it must be a possibility. …show more content…
“Poe had all of the features of encephalitic rabies’ said Dr. Henry Wilde”. This quote means that Poe most likely died from encephalitic rabies since he did in fact have all of the symptoms. The doctors said that Poe again grew confused and belligerent, then quieted down and died, just like a classic case of rabies. This is saying that Poe could have died just like anyone with a classic case of rabies. Poe refused alcohol and could drink water only with great difficulty. Rabies victims frequently exhibit hydrophobia, or fear of water and this is exactly what Poe had. If Edgar Allen Poe had all of the symptoms of rabies, then he must have died from
Poe’s cat didn’t have anything wrong with it as they had claim in fact his cat seemed perfectly fine. So if Poe’s cat was fine then, the rabies idea cannot be backed up by such evidence. Poe also had a vaccination for rabies so they could be prevented. Since Poe had his shot, it would be quite hard for him to have contracted rabies. Poe’s cat didn’t have a vaccine, although the cat still showed no signs of the disease either. With this evidence we can support the idea that Poe died of being a drunk not getting bitten or scratched by his
Edgar Allen Poe, known for his crazy writings, but what people question the most beside his stories is how did he die? There have been many theories circling around for how he has died. Two theories aare that he had rabbies or abused alcohol. Many people believe in different things and argue from very different points. However, Poe died of alcohol because, he has had a past with it in his younger years. Even though he gets sick from just one glass, he could of wanted to kill himself or had a withdraw and craved it.
There are many pieces of evidence that support Poe mostly likely dies of rabies. For one Michael Benitez states in his letter that rabies can incubate in a human for up to a year. This proved why Poe did not have a bite at the time if it indeed did happen about a year ago. Also in Poe’s biography it says Poe was semi-conscious stuck in a stupor. This also
Edgar Allen Poe was a great writer that lived a hard life and died an unfortunate death. On October 7, 1849 Edgar Allen Poe died. There are many theories of how Poe died such as alcoholism and rabies. Poe died of rabies not alcoholism.
There are many theories of how Edgar Allan Poe died. One of the theories is alcohol. Poe was a heavy drinker as a young man so it is possible. Another theory is rabies. This is also a possible theory because of the symptoms he had in the hospital.
How did Edgar Allen Poe really die? It is a question that has been asked for years now that people are still trying to answer. There are numerous theories of how Poe died, the most popular being alcoholism and rabies. Most people at the time attributed Poe's death to alcoholism because of his dark past with alcohol. However, Poe died of rabies because he exhibited many signs of rabies, including hallucinations, delirium, and anger.
The death of Edgar Allen Poe is quite the mystery. No one knows what really happened to the failed poet that cold night, while he lay on the street. Many theories suggest that Poe was murdered by one of his many enemies or that he has brain cancer and died on the street. One theory I support is that Poe died from alcohol poisoning, there is quite a bit of evidence that supports Edgar Allen Poe passed from alcohol poisoning such as he became addicted to alcohol after his wife passed, he was found near a pub, and he had brain symptoms that pointed to alcoholism.
On Oct. 7, 1849, Edgar Allan Poe died mysteriously. While there are many theories about why or how he died, I believe that it is a unknown illness or cholera. First, a document by Poe it suggest that Edgar Allan Poe had contracted cholera weeks before arriving in Richmond and had a manic episode. Next, According to Susan Archer Talley, Poe was pale and trembling. His condition was serious enough that two doctors though he was in “imminent danger” and that another “attack would kill him. Then, in addition, John Moran claims that Poe had arrived at the hospital unconscious and remains in that condition from 5:00 pm until 3:00 am. When he wakes up he trembles and sweats profusely until the following day. Although no one will ever know for certain
Edgar Allen Poe was a mysterious writer that was famous in the early 1800’s for his horror stories and mystery writings and poems. He died on October 7th, 1849, but his death cause is unknown and a very controversial topic. Two of the main guesses as to what Poe’s cause of death was is alcoholism and rabies. I believe that Poe’s death was caused by rabies because Poe’s symptoms were of rabies when he died, two doctors, Dr. Pollin and Dr. Benedetto, tried disproving his theory but could only do it with false information, and another well known doctor, Dr. Benitez backs up his theory that Poe died of rabies with scientific support that can’t be refuted.
According to the CDC, over 88,000 people die every year due to the excessive use of alcohol in the United States. Now this proves that alcoholism is a very serious and common issue in our country. Poe’s death to this day has been thought of as a great mystery, most believing he died from either alcohol or rabies. According to several sources saying that Poe was sent to the hospital after being to drunk, not being able to tell doctors the names of his family members/where he lived, and the fact that his cat, Caterina, was proven to not have rabies, I believe he died from alcohol.
“Mr. Poe could not possibly send forth a book without some marks of his genius, and mixed up with the dross we find much sterling ore.” — (From a review of Poe’s Tales, September 6, 1845.) In 1845, Poe, 27, and Virginia, 13, married, and were happy for a time. In 1842, Virginia ruptured a blood vessel; the first sign of the ill health that plagued her short life. Poe turned to alcohol to cope with her illness and the stress of his dying wife. Two years later, Virginia died of tuberculosis, and Poe’s own death would follow shortly two years after that.
My decision to conclude that Edgar Allan Poe died from cooping was the right one because I will rationalize various theories and explanations of his death that will prove my decision is the correct one. Where he was found, the clothes he was wearing and how he disappeared right before his death will demonstrate why cooping is the correct decision. Several other documented theories of his death include: rabies, alcohol poisoning, brain tumor, epilepsy and congestion of the brain which was included on his death certificate. I decided that the possibility of rabies was improbable because due to the fact that there was no physical evidence of an animal bite or scratch. However, during my research I learned that once someone is contaminated with
As he did continuously in his writing, Poe has left us with yet another mystery: the cause of his death. This conundrum has tormented scholars for decades. Was it rabies, meningitis, or even a brain lesion? Edgar Allan Poe’s cause of death was never official. His physician listed it as “congestion of the brain” on his death certificate, yet there was no way of knowing, especially since there was no autopsy performed. Many scholars do not agree with the physician’s diagnosis. Oddly, most of these scholars believe that Poe died as a result of rabies. Many other theories have been suggested such as a heart condition, meningitis, and diabetes. Although most people who have theorized about Poe’s death believe
Could Edgar Allan Poe be talking about the modern day disease ebola using the disease he made up The Red Death ? Yes he very well could be. The diseases are very similar because the disease could be deadly and could kill you soon after you get it. Ebola can kill you in a matter of one week and the Red Death can kill you in thirty minutes. They have very similar side effects and can be spread quite easily. That is why when these patients are being treated, the staff taking care of them has to have protective suits on before treating patients. During the outbreak with The Red Death and Ebola some authorities warn you to stay in one place so you don’t get the disease. There are some different symptoms but not many. that’s why he could very well
Dr. R. Michael Benitez was given Edgar Allan Poe’s case in 1996 for a clinical pathologic conference. Since the doctor did not know that the patient he was given was Edgar Allan Poe, he gave his best guess after using professional evidence to prove that he thought this case was a case of someone who had rabies. By looking at the symptoms that he was given, the doctor connected them to the symptoms a patient with rabies would have. After finding out that the patient was Edgar Allan Poe who died in the 19th century, Dr. Benitez was more convinced that the cause of death was rabies since it was a common virus during that time. The doctor even told the Maryland Medical Journal “That is a classic case of rabies”. (Benitez 2) Another doctor whose name was Dr. Henry Wilde also agreed that Poe most likely died of rabies since he is a doctor who often treats rabies and says that this is probably the reason since “Poe had all the features of encephalitic rabies.”(Benitez 2)
