Clarisse McClellan, you all know her, where is she now you ask? She knew too much… Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is a novel which considers the different people in society today, those who are informed and those who aren’t. An Informed Citizen is somebody who can see how the media censors what society can see and what knowledge they can gain. Clarisse McClellan was seen as an informed citizen in fahrenheit 451, her attitudes and sense towards society show us how being an individual and using the knowledge we gain is an important. By becoming an informed citizen, we can change the way the media affects us and how the censorship of this knowledge creates a society of ignorance. We can see how censorship leads to unforgiving circumstances because one of the Characters in Fahrenheit Clarisse McClellan goes “missing”, although in reality she was “nipped of the budd”, sent away or removed from society before she knew too much. "You're one of the few who put up with me. That's why I think it's so strange you're a fireman, it just doesn't seem right for you, somehow." From this line Clarisse McClellan says consider this “they fear those with knowledge and control those without it”. We understand that most firemen fear Clarisse because she understood what was written in the books and questioned the government's plans more than anyone else did. Clarisse was able to gain the knowledge that no one else could because the government has removed and censored all this information from them. This made clarisse so powerful they feared her, this was so critical in demonstrating the importance of being an informed citizen. Clarisse was different to everyone else, she asked questions, she wanted to know the truth. She was an informed citizen, but the government didn’t like her testing their censorship and power so they got rid of her. The importance of becoming an informed citizen can been seen through the Character Clarisse McClellan in the novel. If she didn’t question the government's methods the change to society could never of happened. Although
