The Modern Day Texting and its Effects on English Language Text in English language means the written content for example: the writings in textbooks are called the texts. In today’s world texting means writing text messages, which many people including youth and teenagers use to communicate with others. This essay specifically investigates the effects of texting, communicating through text messages, on the English language. The paragraphs ahead emphasize on the fact that texting has no harmful effects on English language literature. To elaborate, according to Ward the author of the article, Texting ‘is no bar to literacy’, texting does not have negative effects on the English language and it does not “ruin” the language. The author mentions that most of the teenagers that text are able to “code switch”, which means that teenagers are able to converse using different modes of communication. A study was done on two groups, one on children that texted often and the other that did not text regularly. The study asked the participants to describe an event or an image. The study found out that children who texted more used less words to describe the event; on the other hand, children that texted less used more words in their responses (Ward, 2004). Based on the aforementioned reasons it can be stated that texting has no direct harmful effects on the English language literature.
