Unicorns are known amongst the populous for being in just about every little girl’s imaginary sky castle. To understand the evidence proving unicorns, one must first know where the idea of a unicorn came to be. Lore surrounding the unicorn could not be easily dated, simply that it was there in an unrecorded history. The closest date hat has been speculated would be that unicorn lore started in about 300 B.C.E. (Shepard). Stories of the unicorn told nowadays are seen as pure fantasy that they live up in the sky, and they only come down to feed on grass. Or that they ride on rainbows. The name El Chupacabra was given to the beast by the locals because of what it had done to their livestock, sucked them dry of blood. Chupacabra, loosely translated, means “Goat Sucker” in Spanish. It is considered to be vampiric, stand on two legs, and have piercing red eyes. A creature of the same actions has been spotted inside of the lower portion of Texas, but not the same description. This creature was more of a canine creature with no hair, and pale-blue skin similar to that of an elephants, and rather large canine teeth. Although they differ in appearance, El Chupacabra could very well be either of the two previously mentioned. There is more evidence concerning the Texas version of the creature, because eyewitnesses decided to shoot it when they saw it coming for their chickens. What they discovered was that the canine teeth were bigger than a wolf, yet smaller than a domestic dog. Hair samplings, and tissue samplings were sent in to the appropriate experts. The hair came back to be canine in origin due to the scaling patterns, and the tissue sample was inconclusive for the effects of mange in the creature because of the sample’s age (MonsterQuest). Mange is a disease caused by mites found inside of canines that leads to excessive itching and hair loss.
