“The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of those depths.” Elisabeth Kubler-Ross. These people have prevailed through their struggles and have earned great success. All the pain and suffering that they have endured has brought them out of their darkness and into the light of all their accomplishments. Rosie O'Donnell had struggles when her daughter Chelsea got hospitalized from an overdose. I could only imagine her struggle. Not to mention when she came out to the world that she was a lesbian. She probably got hate mail from non-supporters, but she never listened to them. Because of that she is now an actress, film actress, and a talk
There are lots of things in life that happen to different people, for different reasons. And some people, you would never think they endured some of the things that they had to endure. Some people’s lives are better than others, the experiences, the drives that they push through each day, every day. But this story, is eye opening, and a learning experience in multiple ways.
There are many people who went through challenges like these three people who have been through a lot like Ernesto Galarza, Farah Ahmedi, and Annie Johnson. These three people have been through a lot of challenges. The challenge that Ernesto had faced was that had gone to a new school and had to learn english and Farah Ahmedi had to cross the Pakistan border then Annie Johnson had to raise her own children by herself. However, all three shared an ability to accomplish to overcome their challenges to accomplish their goals.
Initially, when I think of someone who handled a great deal of difficulty, yet overcame them and succeeded, I picture Abraham Lincoln. Abe had many struggles that not many people know of. When he was young, Lincoln moved several times
People sometimes have tough ordeals. Some may act negatively toward the problem, but the people that act positively toward the problem are able to see hope in places where they wouldn’t expect it to be in. People have been through cruelty, yet they continue to stay positive. People still have the positivity to cling onto their last hope, or even continue to think positively when there is no hope at all. People like Anne Frank, in Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, continue to stay positive throughout the horrible ordeals that have happened. Some of the Japanese in Dear Miss Breed: True Stories of the Japanese American Incarceration During World War II and a Librarian Who Made a Difference have continued to stay hopeful while in internment
The first forms of adversity an individual may face are those of the burdens that are placed by family members and their expectations. This can be seen through Mariam’s progression of her ability to endure and suffer through
Adversity reveals strength in people, like in Louis Zamperini and Malala Yousafzai. Louis Zamperini was an Olympic athlete that was later stranded in a raft for 47 days, then captured in a japanese POW camp in World War II. During all of his hardships
That one can find meaning, contentment, and inspiration in life. No matter how long a person has struggled with pain and problems, growth and improvement are possible.
As shown in the poems that were included in this DBQ, the spirit triumphs. Yes, Holocaust survivors, reflect the brutality and finding beauty within their unfortunate circumstances. However, those who overcome ravaging diseases, an accomplishment in sports, or just about anything involving liberation is evidence of triumph - making holocaust survivors a small percentage of what the human spirit can overcome. For instance, my fear of doing certain skills in sports gave me the motivation to endure. Similar to the Holocaust stories, at one point, I thought I would never be able to break free of the moments where I was convinced there was no solution to my problem.
I can look at things I never looked at. I can attach faces to grief and love and pity and God. I can be brave. I can make myself feel again.” (180)
As a major loss, her husband’s suicide made her empty and lonely but not for long. She soon emerged as a stronger and more spiritual person, thanks
Tragic experiences don’t always have a tragic effect. They can improve someone’s personality and character, and they can change someone for the better. In I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou, Marguerite Johnson is raped, but that helps her discover the art of poetry and confide in it, while in Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, Chris McCandless’ whole childhood is considered a tragic experience, but that helps him leave everything behind and find real happiness.
Helen Keller once said, “Although the world is full of suffering, it is also about overcoming it.” Helen Keller faced a lot of adversity and obstacles in her life. But she got through it. Everyone faces obstacles in their lives, some more than others, but no ones life is just a sunny sea. I will be telling of four stories that are full of amazing people, who, against all odds powered through obstacles and kept going with their lives and competing their dreams against all odds.
"Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved."
I realize that the most capable physicians can heal because they have been sick and are able to fix because of their own brokenness. In other words, adversity builds character and changes people for the better. In my case, my disadvantaged upbringing has made me a better person, son, father and potentially a better public servant. After my parents divorced in 2000, my mother and I moved to Little Rock, Arkansas where we struggled to get by. Enduring that hardship with her changed me from an early age. Some nights I stayed at my best friend’s apartment, because we had no electricity. In a sense, this deprivation allowed me to mature and understand that in life you must sacrifice for a larger
Keller’s main message in her autobiography is that you can persevere through anything in life, “Helen Keller has shown the world that one can achieve anything in their lifetime.” ( , Pg. 210)
