on April 27, 1997 Ellen Degeneres came out on her television show to everyone. Now 20 plus years later she is still using her tv show to change the world on joke at a time. She has won multiple awards and has starred in two blockbuster animated films and has been hosting her award winning television show for 15 years now. Ellen has become a major advocate for lgbt rights and women's right. Ellen is an influential advocate of lgbt rights through her actions of risking her career to come out on her show, speaking out on her show for what’s right, and donating to multiple charities.

Many people throughout history have also faced adversity and have been resilient through it. For example, Tyler Perry; he had a terrible childhood, he was physically and sexually abused as a child, kicked out of high school, and tried to commit suicide twice in his lifetime. Still, through all his hardships, he produced and starred in his first theater production, I Know I’ve Been Changed, which failed. Therefore he obtained odd jobs to pay for the production; finally on the seventh run the show broke through. Through all his hardships he never gave up and today has a successful career as a writer, director, and actor. Oprah Winfrey also endured a rough childhood because of sexual abuse, she had a child at fourteen who passed away two weeks after. She continued on to finish high school with honors and get a scholarship for college. She worked her way up from TV anchor to a creator of her own network. Scientist Stephen Hawking was diagnosed with ALS and through his colleague, friends, and family’s support he became a great scientist. Through his perseverance Hawking managed many accomplishments such as his published book on the theories of the Big Bang. Nelson Mandela was also a person with great resilience who dreamed of racial equality and spent 27 years in prison for it.

“Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.” What the Roman poet Horace was saying was that when there is an obstacle in our way, our true colors will radiate. I could not agree more. When we as human beings feel passionate about achieving a goal, we may learn something new of ourselves, maybe a new trait that we did not know we possessed, when we reach new heights we did not know we could push ourselves towards. Challenges are similar to tests. Challenges are faced every day, but how we respond to them determines how strong we really are. Prime examples are superheroes and students that move dramatically.

Imagine having the perfect life- you get into all honors classes, you get straight A’s, you are the first chair in the orchestra, you get into the A Cappella choir, you are on the varsity volleyball team, President of the Student Council, and you have a perfect home life. You have never had to face a single obstacle throughout your journey in life. When your whole life is like this, you do not know what failure feels like and will never experience the need to rise up after a downfall. There are many types of journeys one can take in life and dealing with obstacles has a prodigious impact on the outcome. The obstacles and hindrances are the things that shape us as we experience the ups and downs in life.

After high school, DeGeneres did not know what she wanted to do with her life. At the age of 19, one of DeGeneres’ friends was killed in a car accident and DeGeneres was living in an apartment basement with no money. She suddenly had a calling from God and realized she wanted to be the first woman on the Tonight Show and take the path of stand-up. Challenges are a part of life and everyone will face them at some point in their life, but it is how people handle it that determines their future. Life is like an obstacle course, you run into multiple obstacles on the way to the finish line, and there's no telling how many hindrances you may encounter. Very few people can go their whole life without obstacles along the way, others can’t seem to get away from them, but with every obstacle comes a beneficial or deleterious concomitant.

Everyone has different aspects of life that come with multiple obstacles. As many think they aren’t able to overcome and moving fourth, believing they will fall apart and behind everyone else. Most of mankind has experience some type of obstacles and we all have a wide arrangement on how to cope and overcome. The truth is, we only see challenges and obstacles when we take our eyes off the goal. Every goal has a challenges but once we overcome the world becomes bigger.

When Ellen was a child she was most scared of tornadoes. Ellen attend school and liked english and psychology the best and did not like biology because she did not like to cut open frogs. Her best friend in school was Diane Gangy, who now lives in Arizona. Ellen is also a very good artist.

Not only this but she also hosted a lot of other shows for Fox channel and was a field reporter for them too. She got a huge amount of limelight when she hosted the Oscars and not to forget her contributions for the ABC network show Good Morning America.

Many people face challenges and obstacles at a very young age and that can change who they are as they grow up. My grandma faced a very harsh and unfortunate childhood. Her father died when she was 17 and that changed her life and her future. It meant she was given many responsibilities since she was the eldest out of her siblings. She had to do many house chores such as cooking, washing the clothes and dishes and waking up early in the morning to get water from a nearby well every day! This placed a very large obstacle in her life at a very young age. She had to leave school at a very young age because of all the responsibilities she was given and had to overcome these obstacles and face them with great integrity. But due to these obstacles that she has overcome, it has changed who she is now. She struggled in life right from when she was just a little kid. But if she hadn’t overcome these obstacles she wouldn’t have been a very independent woman like she is today. If her father hadn’t died when she was young, she probably would have had a completely different

Everyone experiences adversity. Challenges that everyday people experience can potentially shape, improve, or destroy one's sense of self and personality. Through all these hardships and seemingly impenetrable obstacles, the most pertinent component of one's ability to overcome can only be shown in actions taken despite the odds. People have one of two options; to let those obstacles overwhelm them and keep them from pursuing all that they were destined to accomplish, or to march forward, fight harder and push past the seemingly impossible circumstances to become greater than they ever expected to be, but until they take the step that enables them to be successful -- they are stranded. All of our actions, mistakes, successes, and behaviors shape our person and what we can or cannot become, but what will always matter is our individual decisions and actions not those of the people around us because at the end of the day, we are the ones who have to deal with ourselves.

In my 38 years of life, I’ve had to overcome plenty of obstacles. When examining my life, especially in my younger years, it showed me life consists of an assortment of minor and major obstacles. Facing an obstacle, especially a major one, and conquering it, awards me a triumphant feeling. Furthermore, this feeling did provide me with determination, willpower, and courage to take on any future obstacles that life can throw at me (Harrington, 2012). This makes minor obstacles to become like a cake walk.

In life, we all go through challenges and it’s either we face them or walk away from it. Growing up, people will always have different ways of handling things that happens in their life. We can’t know what could happen and how we handle it because life is unexpected. As I see it is that if you tend to keep making the same mistakes, you’ll never get passed your past and if you learn from all of your mistakes, you can move forward with your life. Everyone has faced their challenges in their own way and not everything in life will be easy because I can tell you right now that no one’s life is perfect. Everyone has their flaws, but they're perfect in their own way possible.
