Because patients need round-the-clock care, working hours include days, nights, weekends and holidays. Nurses spend considerable time walking, bending, stretching and standing, so they must follow proper body mechanics to guard against injury. Because of the fast-paced and variable environment of emergency rooms, ER Nurses must possess good stress coping skills and be able to relate to people of all ages and backgrounds. They must be able to work accurately around frequent interruptions. Nurses may face hazards from exposure to chemicals and infectious diseases. In addition, they treat patients that may be confused, irrational, agitated, and/or uncooperative. Along with all this you need. At a minimum for most entry-level emergency room (ER) nursing careers, applicants must have a diploma from an accredited
There are many components to a hospital or medical facility. All of them are necessary to have a properly functioning environment. The emergency department of a hospital is a fast paced world. You have to be constantly on your toes and prepared for whatever may come through the doors. There are many people that work in an emergency room to make it run smoothly. Techs, nurses, CNA’s, LVN’s, and doctors all work side by side to help those who are critically injured. Without all these people it would be complete chaos.
Everyone faces struggles in their life. Some allow those struggles to help build them as a person, others let those struggles tear them down. For me, I allowed my struggles to help me develop academically and personally. Without struggle there is no progress.
Professional nursing associations provide an opportunity for professional nurses to develop an understanding of nursing profession and health care overall. Membership in a professional association can lead to an increased awareness of health issues such as outbreak of Zika virus, also provides opportunities in education, mentoring, networking, career assistance, and certifications. The purpose of this paper is to write about a specific professional nursing organization. This paper focuses on the Emergency Nurse Association (ENA). In 1970, the Emergency Room Nurses Organization was established on the east coast and west coast (ENA, 2016). Founded in 1970, the ENA has more than 40,000 members worldwide and it is a great source of education to the global emergency nursing community (ENA, 2016). The ENA consists of well-trained members in triage, disaster management, patient care, and bioterrorism. The whole purpose of being a nurse, regardless of specialties; such as emergency nurse, pediatric nurse, labor & deliver nurse, or geriatrics nurse is to provide a holistic care to the patient. A nurse is a patient’s advocate, caregiver, and educator. A clear vision of the Emergency Nurse Association is to provide the best and excellent care to the patient in emergency nursing through education, advocacy, research, and leadership (ENA, 2016). The Emergency Nurse Association’s vision and aim is totally relevant to nursing practice because a nurse is obligated to implement
On Monday, June 27, 2016, I had a very interesting conversation with one of my co-workers. We were discussing the political issues going on with the American Society of Anesthesiologist (ASA) and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA). Usually, I try my hardest to avoid political issues while at work. However, I’m very happy that we had this conversation. While we were communicating, I noticed that she was so respectful and appreciative of my thoughts even when she did not agree. I gave her the same respect. It was so refreshing to have a conversation with another individual about sensitive material without resorting to an argument. Furthermore, we came to a conclusion that the two groups should not be fighting with each other
Emergency departments are facing a shortage of trained nurses that are capable of functioning in the fast-paced environment such as an emergency department. The problem is the emergency room is not retaining nurses and faces a continuous influx of untrained, new nurses to fill the void. This unstable staffing situation leads to hazardous care environments for both patient and nurse. This is a perpetual the cycle that worsens with time and becomes a viscous cycle of departure. The nurses who stay become fatigued, overwhelmed and burned out, which causes more nurses to leave. The nurses who remain face short staffing, the burden of training new hires without help and no team to rely on for support.
One would think that an emergency medical technician’s job is not nearly as complex or important as that of a registered nurse. Registered nurses work in hospitals, nursing homes, and doctors’ offices. They are the driving force of the hospitals. You will see registered nurses passing medications, inserting foley catheters, and changing dressing. They are patient advocates and the medical doctors’ eyes and ear. How can an emergency medical technician’s job compare to a registered nurse? All they do is transport patients to the hospital right? Not so fast! An emergency medical technician’s job is stressful and critical. Similar to the registered nurse, an emergency medical technicians (EMT), job is literally a matter of life and death.
A nurse is a profession in the healthcare field. There are many different kinds of jobs that you can be in the nursing field which includes, OPN nurses, OB/GYN nurses, registered nurses, nurse midwife, and much more. The type of nursing career I decided to research is an OB/GYN nurse. OB/GYN is used as an abbreviation for the actual name of this career. The “OB” is short for obstetrics or for an obstetrician, which is a physician who specializes in delivering babies. “GYN” is short for gynecology or for gynecologist, which is a physician who specializes in treating diseases which develop in the female reproductive system. Therefore an Obstetrics/Gynecology, OB/GYN, nurse is a type of nurse who helps deliver babies and which also helps treat
###Some parts of essay repeat themselves, needs to be checked###When looking into the nursing field, there is a large variety of professions like Trauma Nurses and Home Health Nurses. They both provide medical attention to patients, quick important decisions, and need the same education, but differ in their salaries, job environment, and pace level.

“They may forget your name but they will never forget how you made them feel” -Maya Angeleu. Emergency room nurses work in critical care emergency facilities to assist doctors and work with emergency medical technicians in helping people in pain and possible life-threatening trauma. I am most interested in pursuing a career as a emergency room nurse because of its crazy and surprising career overview it’s high salary and not so hard education.
I was thrilled to see an opening for a nursing position on the medical surgical floor at LDS hospital, I have applied and submitted my resume and I anxiously wait for a call to interview. I currently work at the Intermountain West Jordan Clinic as a Medical Assistant and have been searching the internal job postings for a registered nurse position. I am a new graduate from nursing school and am eager to begin my career as a nurse.
Hi, Charles. I enjoyed reading your post this week. I previously worked as an emergency room nurse, and I agree that standing orders or protocols improve patient outcomes and satisfaction scores. In 2014 there was a randomized clinical trial done where assessments were conducted in an academic and tertiary hospital. The participants included were adults with the diagnosis of acute chest pain that was consistent with acute coronary syndrome for whom the physicians were planning observation and serial troponin testing. The intervention was an experimental pathway that utilized an accelerated diagnostic protocol and a standard care pathway served as the control. The findings showed that by using the accelerated experimental pathway that the patients that were discharged early were almost double than that of the care pathway.
Overall the nurse educator can have a huge impact on decreasing LV. Nurse educators can provide a safe learning environment that challenge and prepare students for their transition into their new role as a nurse (Thomas, Bertram, & Allen, 2012). Through the clinical practice environment it provides the opportunity for students to practice learned skills and apply this knowledge when the student begins their practice as a nurse in the workplace.
I cannot agree with you more. Nursing educators are such a vital part of any organization. Unfortunately, at my facility we are going through a transition period of nursing leadership and the Designated Learning Officer position has been put on hold. The nursing educators are taking on different roles to assure staffing for now. Managers are responsible for educating staff, more than they ever have before. I have wonderful staff that I have educated to perform in this role.
